XPSemu Alpha 3.1
The original Xbox, and now Sega Chihiro arcade games, running natively on a PlayStation 5.
What's new
Sega Chihiro arcade games
Thanks to XPSemu-Chihiro by tattoohanz for the base board, drive board and card reader work, and to Cxbx-Reloaded for the method of starting Chihiro games without a BIOS.
- A new Chihiro tab for Sega's Xbox-based arcade board. The games run on the same native core as Xbox games.
- No Chihiro BIOS and no media board flash needed. Only your game and the 3 base board files.
- Games are read in place: nothing is unpacked first, and no extra space is used.
- Controls made for each game: driving games on the sticks and triggers, gun games with a crosshair on the left stick.
- Gun games also work with a USB mouse.
- Steering wheel force feedback comes through as controller rumble.
- After the first start, games skip the SEGA boot screen and start directly.
Playable so far:
- OutRun 2 (with force feedback)
- Crazy Taxi: High Roller
- Virtua Cop 3
- Ollie King
- Ghost Squad
Better dashboard
- Each game shows its region and languages, for example "USA - En, Fr".
- Game language: Auto (the new default): games use your PS5's language when the disc has it, else English.
- The same disc in two places is marked Duplicate, with the other copy's path.
- Delete game saves in a game's settings.
Vibration
- Xbox games now rumble the DualSense, on all 4 controllers.
- Turn it on or off in Settings > Controller (the button under the controller), or in the quick menu. One setting for every game.
Updates from inside the app
- System > Check for updates finds the newest XPSemu on GitHub, installs it by itself and restarts.
- When a new version is out, XPSemu tells you when it starts.
- 3.1 is the first version with this: from here on, there's no need to copy files by hand to update.
New Anti-aliasing: SSAA + SMAA
- A new top choice: SSAA draws at x6 and averages it down, then SMAA smooths the edges once more. The smoothest picture XPSemu has, and the heaviest.
- In Settings > Video > Anti-aliasing, per game, and in the quick menu.
More disc formats supported
- CHD (
.chd): compressed images. - CSO (
.cso): compressed images, including ones split in two (Game.1.cso+Game.2.cso). - Split XISOs:
Game.1.iso,Game.2.iso... (up to 9 parts) play as one disc. - All of them work in Games and in the Browser.
Chihiro games: which files
Put your games in /data/xpsemu/chihiro/games/, or in xpsemu/chihiro/games/ on a USB drive.
| Format | Keys needed? | |
|---|---|---|
Netboot image (.bin)
| No | Best choice. Already unlocked and opens fastest. 512 MB and 1 GB images both work. |
CHD (.chd) MAME GD-ROM
| Yes | Compressed, the smallest on disk. |
GD-ROM dump (.gdi or .cue) with its tracks
| Yes |
Keys (CHD and GD-ROM only): the game's security key as a .pic or .data file, beside the game or in /data/xpsemu/chihiro/. A MAME key .zip works too, with no need to extract it.
Important
3 base board files are always needed, in /data/xpsemu/chihiro/:
ic10_g24lc64.binpc20_g24lc64.binic11_24lc024.bin
The Chihiro tab shows "Base board files: OK" when they're found.
