XPSemu Alpha 3.0
The original Xbox, running natively on a PlayStation 5.
What's new
From QEMU to native
Thanks to the hakuX project for the method.
- Xbox code runs directly on the PS5's CPU, with no translation in between.
- Resolution up to x6 (was x4): renders at up to 3840x2880, shown at 4K.
- Anti-aliasing: FXAA, SMAA and SSAA.
- Sharp (SGSR) or Smooth upscaling.
Frame Generation
- MihawkGen frame generation: Off, Auto, x2, x3, x4.
- Auto takes 30 FPS games to 60 and 60 FPS games to 120.
60 and 120 FPS patches
- Built-in frame rate mods: Halo 1 and Halo 2 up to 120 FPS, and more 60/120 FPS mods for other supported games.
- Our own 60 FPS unlocks, tested on:
- DOOM 3 (USA/Japan/Europe, build version 3)
- Half-Life 2 (USA/Europe)
- Hulk: Ultimate Destruction (USA/Asia)
- FPS cap: Off, 30, 60, 90 or any number you type.
- PAL 60 Hz per game (off by default): PAL discs run their 60 Hz mode, smoother and faster.
- Widescreen and 60 FPS patches apply by themselves to the games that have them, checked against your game version. Turn either off in Settings > Patches.
Improved quick menu (touchpad while playing)
- Save states: 10 slots per game with pictures, a name for each save, delete states.
- Volume, FPS counter, screen shape, upscaling, anti-aliasing, FPS cap, Frame Generation, FPS Patch and PAL 60 Hz, all saved per game.
- Restart the game or go back home.
More disc formats supported
- XISO, full Redump images, CCI compressed images, and game folders.
- Browser tab: find games anywhere on the PS5's storage or a USB drive and add them to your library.
- Games that start a second XBE (Half-Life 2 and others) now continue into it, with patches applied to it too.
Better dashboard
- New icons.
- Games search: press Options and type.
- The original Microsoft dashboard can now be started from System > Xbox Dashboard.
- New folder for XPSemu:
/data/xpsemu/. XPSemu now keeps its hard disk, saves, save states and settings there. - Put new games in
/data/xpsemu/games/, or inxpsemu/games/on a USB drive. - Games already in
/data/xemu/games/(orxemu/games/on a USB drive) still show up. There's no need to move them.
Warning
QEMU hard disk images (.qcow2) are no longer supported.
Alpha 3 no longer uses QEMU, so the xbox_hdd.qcow2 from Alpha 2 can't be read. The Xbox hard disk is now plain folders in /data/xpsemu/hdd/:
Partition1is E: (game saves)Partition2is C: (the Xbox Dashboard)
Game saves from Alpha 2 don't carry over by themselves. You can copy them across with a FATX tool, into Partition1/UDATA/.
Fixed issues
- Group S Challenge doesn't boot (#22): the game now starts and plays, with its road shadows drawn correctly.
- LEGO Star Wars: The Video Game crashes during cutscenes (#15)
- Star Wars: Republic Commando crashes when starting a new game (#12)
Installation
- Download
PPSA97358.zip, extract it, and copyPPSA97358/to/data/homebrew/. - Copy your games to
/data/xpsemu/games/, or toxpsemu/games/on a USB drive. Games in the oldxemu/games/folders work too. - Launch XPSemu from the home screen.
Note
No BIOS, no MCPX boot ROM and no helper.elf needed anymore.
XPSemu doesn't include any BIOS or MCPX file, in the app or in the source code. It simply doesn't need them.
