XPSemu Alpha 2

The original Xbox, running natively on a PlayStation 5.

What's new

Easier setup

  • helper.elf replaces XPSemu Tools, and there's no whitelist step anymore.
  • No hard disk file needed: XPSemu creates a blank one for you. You only need the MCPX boot ROM and a BIOS.
  • A setup screen shows which files are missing and updates by itself as you copy them over.
  • Games can be on a USB or external drive (xemu/games on the drive). Plug a drive in or out and the game list updates right away.

Dashboard

  • New startup logo and sound.
  • New 3D game shelf with smooth scrolling and launch animation.
  • Box Art Viewer: press Square on a game to see its full case in 3D.
  • Rename any game.
  • Quick resume (hold Circle), recently played games, Now Playing bar.
  • Settings in clear categories: Video, Sound, Interface, Controller, Patches, Advanced.
  • Dashboard music and new menu sounds.

Covers

  • Covers download automatically, including the back and spine of the case.
  • Optional side art for 4:3 games, in the style of the Xbox 360 Blades dashboard.

Game patches

  • Browse and install patches from Jay’s Magic Patches in each game’s settings. Patches are checked against your game version before installation.
  • All your active patches in one list (Settings > Patches).
  • Widescreen patches set up the game's screen shape automatically.

Home-screen shortcuts

  • Add any game to the PS5 home screen as its own title, with its cover as the icon and the game's own 4K background. its starts the game directly.

Controller

  • Remap any button, with a live tester.

Performance

  • Translated code is no longer thrown away constantly.
  • SSE instructions run natively on the PS5's CPU.
  • Faster clock reads, no debug tracing, fewer GPU wait stalls, guest RAM in direct memory (about 130 MB more free memory).
  • Fix for random freezes at game start (ported from the xemu light-gun fork).

Fixes

  • Crashes when starting one game after another, or the same game twice.
  • Ninja Gaiden Black graphics problems (#3).
  • Cover downloads.
  • Controller camera spinning on its own.
  • Text overlapping in long lists.
