v0.5.3 Preview - Jump physics and Retry fix

latest release: v0.5.4

Changes

  • Charged jumps off the side of Rocky Ridge land back on the course. These jumps flew out of bounds, with or without an air trick. The cause was the elapsed-time race clock that v0.5.0 made the default on desktops. Some of the race physics scale an impulse by the frame's time step, so a takeoff on a frame slightly longer than 1/60 s threw the board further than the console ever does.
    • Desktops step the race one original frame at a time again, as before v0.5.0; the launcher holds them at 60 FPS. Set SFR_REALTIME_RACE=1 to step by elapsed time instead.
    • Wherever elapsed time is used (Android by default): a step within a tenth of one frame now counts as exactly one frame. The small difference carries into later frames, so the race still keeps real time.
  • Retry from the pause menu no longer gets stuck. Pressing A to confirm Retry answered the confirmation and was also passed to the pause menu underneath as "OK". The confirmation then came back during the restart and stayed on screen. While a yes/no confirmation is open, A and B now go only to the confirmation.

Validation

  • Tests: CTest 141/141, including new checks that steps near 60 FPS with jitter are exactly one frame while keeping real time.
  • Windows package: completed race checks on D3D12 (Frozen Forest) and Vulkan (Dolphin Resort), with isolated saves and the shipped defaults.
  • Linux package: passed a Vulkan startup smoke test in WSL.
  • Android: the APKs keep the existing signing certificate and 16 KB-compatible libraries; they were not raced on a device.
  • Not verified automatically: the Rocky Ridge side jump and the pause-menu Retry. Scripted runs could not reach either.

Downloads

  • Windows x64: download and extract the Windows ZIP; run FreeRidersRecompiled.exe.
  • Linux x64: download and extract the Linux archive; run FreeRidersRecompiled.
  • Android 10 or later: prefer android10-arm64.apk.
  • Android 9: use android-arm64.apk.
  • Android version code: 21. The companion licence archive applies to both APKs.
  • Checksums: SHA256SUMS.txt.

Use your own game disc image. No game data, private saves or test overrides are included.

Known limitations

The known limitations of v0.5.0 still apply: lighting not compared with the Xbox 360, split-screen two-player and full Grand Prix progression not verified with the new runtime, no camera motion inference on Linux or Android, and performance that varies by device.
