Kinect on a Mac: the skeleton and player outline tuned against a real recording (#342). On a Mac, Free Riders builds the Kinect skeleton and the player's outline itself, from the Kinect's colour and depth pictures, because Microsoft's Kinect software only runs on Windows. Until now that had only been checked on drawn test scenes. knuckleslee recorded a real Kinect v1 and v2 on Windows, together with what Microsoft's software made of them, and the Mac's version is now tuned to match:
- the joints are 4 to 6 cm off Microsoft's in the middle of the range, instead of 10 to 34 cm (the hips were about 30 cm too low);
- the player outline matches Microsoft's 95% (v1) and 91% (v2), instead of 63%; it no longer grows into the floor;
- a Kinect v2 gets its own joint places, as Windows gives the game with a v2.
Joints that are only guessed (for example a hand worked out from a guessed elbow) are now also marked as guessed, as Microsoft's software does.
Everything else is the same as v0.10.44. Windows, Linux and Android are unchanged in play: the Kinect on Windows uses Microsoft's own skeleton, and Camera motion does not use this.
Validation
- The tuning: measured with a new replay tool on knuckleslee's recordings (one person, one room), against Microsoft's Kinect software on the same frames. A body was found in 99.8% (v1) and 99.7% (v2) of the frames where Microsoft's software had one. The numbers were measured on the same recordings they were tuned on.
- Windows x64 package, Vulkan, with the validation layer: a whole Dolphin Resort race with no validation errors (speed 1.000, all 455 pipelines prepared). The title movie, Sharp scaling and an Avatar award in the middle of a race were also checked.
- macOS (M1) package: a whole Dolphin Resort race at full speed (1.000), no MoltenVK errors.
- AYN Thor, this release's APK (Android 10+):
- Dolphin Resort at full speed (60 fps, 0.998), still racing on the 2nd lap.
- Touch controls and Tilt to lean on: 0.999.
- Camera motion on (the Thor has no camera): 0.999.
- Threads on one core: 0.988, with the phone at 36 °C.
- Linux archive: built on Ubuntu 22.04 (needs glibc 2.35), with the camera runtime next to the game.
- Android APKs: same signing key as before, so they install over 0.10.44.
- Unit tests:
- 179 passed on Linux, 187 on Windows.
- On macOS, 176 of 178 passed; the 2 that failed are the same tests that earlier releases failed, and the macOS GitHub Actions run leaves them out.
- GitHub Actions builds and tests passed on Windows, Linux, macOS and Android.
- Not tested:
- A real Kinect on a Mac: the new tuning was measured on a recording, not run on a Mac with a Kinect plugged in (libfreenect's mirroring and libfreenect2's colour-to-depth registration are still unchecked there).
- Phones other than the AYN Thor.
- The iOS app was built and packaged only.
