Changes
- Older Mali phones (#169). Vulkan 1.1 phones with an older Mali GPU, such as the Huawei P30 Pro (Mali-G76), stopped before the game could start: "Missing required extension". The renderer now runs without the newer Vulkan features they lack:
- The shaders are given as SPIR-V 1.3 where the driver only has Vulkan 1.1.
- The renderer no longer requires scalar block layout or buffer device addresses; it never used them.
- GPUs with only 16 textures per shader stage get a compact texture layout.
- A depth format these drivers have (D24S8) is used where the usual one (D32S8) is missing.
- GPUs that have all of these keep exactly the path they had (Adreno, desktop, Apple).
Everything else is the same as v0.10.2.
Validation
- Mali-G72 (Galaxy S9, Android 10, Vulkan 1.1) on Firebase Test Lab: the graphics start-up test prepared all 455 pipelines with the compact layout and D24S8, and drew and read back frames. Before these changes, the same phone stopped at device creation. A whole race on an old Mali has not been tested. Reports from P30 Pro and other Mali-G7x owners are very welcome.
- RTX 4090, the old-Mali path forced (Vulkan 1.1, no scalar layout, no device addresses, no descriptor indexing, 16 textures a stage, D24S8), with the Khronos validation layer: a whole Dolphin Resort race (2,668 race frames), no validation errors, the same picture as the normal path.
- Windows x64 package, Vulkan (normal path) with the validation layer: a whole race, no validation errors, all 455 pipelines, no untranslatable code.
- AYN Thor (Adreno), this release's APK: Dolphin Resort at full speed (0.999, 60 fps), all 455 pipelines prepared.
- Unit tests: 149 passed on Linux; GitHub Actions builds and tests passed on Windows, Linux, macOS and Android.
