Changes
- Leaner game code (#176). The translated game code checks in with the runtime at points where a thread may be paused or handed over. Every jump target had such a check, but only loops need one; a function's entry and every loop keep theirs.
- 143,000 of 172,000 checks are gone.
- On Android the main thread does about 14% less of its own work in a race frame. The game library shrinks from 62 MB to 53 MB, so the downloads are 2–9 MB smaller.
- On Windows nothing changes in speed, since those checks cost nothing on x86.
- Behaviour is unchanged: a check reads and writes no game state.
Everything else is the same as v0.10.25.
Validation
- AYN Thor, this release's APK:
- Normal race: Dolphin Resort at full speed (0.999, 60 fps).
- Helper threads held to the little cores, like a phone that puts them on its slow cores: race speed 0.97 of real time, against 0.84 in v0.10.25 and about 0.61 before v0.10.25.
- Tilt to kick on: the sensor opens and the race runs at full speed.
- Before release, three interleaved A/B races per build with forced frame skipping: the main thread's own work per undrawn frame went from 5.74 to 4.92 ms.
- Windows x64 package, Vulkan, with the validation layer: a whole race, no validation errors, all 455 pipelines. D3D12 was also raced before release.
- macOS (M1) package: a whole Dolphin Resort race at full speed.
- Unit tests: 170 passed on Linux. GitHub Actions builds and tests passed on Windows, Linux, macOS and Android.
