v0.10.10 — Test options, macOS with a Vulkan SDK installed

2 hours ago

Changes

  • Test options page in the launcher. Switches we ask for in an issue are now choices on a page: Settings › Test options. Before, they needed a command line, which Android and iOS players can't use at all.
    • Every option starts at Default, which changes nothing.
    • Each hint names the issue it belongs to.
    • Reset all test options puts everything back.
    • The options you changed are listed in game.log (a TEST_OPTIONS line), so a bug report shows them.
    • Only change them when an issue asks you to.
  • macOS with a Vulkan SDK installed (#207). The game now always uses its own MoltenVK.
    • Before: on a Mac with the Vulkan SDK installed, it took the SDK's Vulkan instead. An older MoltenVK there (1.2.11 or earlier) could not compile the game's shaders, so the game stopped while preparing them.
    • New in the log: game.log names the Vulkan driver in use (NATIVE_VULKAN_DRIVER).
  • Performance hints (Android test option, #176). For phones whose fast core stays at a low clock during a race: the game tells Android each frame how long it worked, so the phone can raise its clocks sooner. Off unless chosen on the Test options page (Android 13 or later).

Everything else is the same as v0.10.9.

Validation

  • macOS (M1):
    • The setup from #207: the release's macOS package, run with a Vulkan loader and MoltenVK 1.2.11 found first. The game used its own MoltenVK 1.4.2 and prepared all 455 pipelines. A race ran at full speed (1.00).
    • Before the fix: 0.10.9 fails in this same setup exactly as reported.
    • Not tested: a real M4 or macOS 15.
  • Test options:
    • unit tests;
    • on Windows, choosing an option and starting the game put it in the game's environment and game.log, and Reset cleared it;
    • the Android and iOS launchers were not tried on a device.
  • Windows x64 package, Vulkan, with the validation layer: a whole race, no validation errors, all 455 pipelines, no untranslatable code.
  • AYN Thor, this release's APK: Dolphin Resort at full speed (0.999, 60 fps), all 455 pipelines prepared.
  • Unit tests: 158 passed on Linux. GitHub Actions builds and tests passed on Windows, Linux, macOS and Android.
