v1.9.0
Fixed
- Specials now get the season and episode numbers Sonarr uses. iPlayer
lists most specials directly under the show rather than in a series,
and iplayer-arr numbered them from their place in that list. Porridge's
1973 pilot came out as S01E01 and its Christmas specials as S00E04 and
S00E05 (TheTVDB has them as S00E01 to S00E03), Doctor Who's "The
Runaway Bride" came out as S01E04, the number of "Aliens of London",
and "A Christmas Carol" as S00E15, the number of "Dreamland". Sonarr
accepted some of them as the episode they were numbered as, and grabbed
the wrong programme. When Sonarr searches by TVDB ID, iplayer-arr now
reads the show's episode list from Skyhook, the TheTVDB service Sonarr
itself uses. An episode whose title matches exactly one TheTVDB episode
that aired within a week of it takes that episode's numbers. This also
corrects regular episodes the BBC numbers differently: Doctor Who Series
7 and Inside No. 9 Series 3 (the BBC counts a Christmas special as an
episode of the series, so the rest of the series was one out), QI
(series lettered rather than numbered) and Red Dwarf (series in Roman
numerals). An episode of the show whose title matches nothing, and
whose number is only a guess from its place in iPlayer's list, takes
the number of the one TheTVDB special that aired the same day. Call the
Midwife's "Christmas Specials 2024: Part 1" is TheTVDB's "Christmas
Special 2024 (1)", and Death in Paradise's "Christmas Special 2022" is
"The Death Ghost". On a day with several specials, it takes the one
whose title its own contains, so "Mini Episode - The Night of the
Doctor" is S00E82. A signed version gives way to the programme it
signs. The same goes for a special numbered only within its own group:
Call the Midwife's "Christmas Specials 2025: Episode 1" came out as
S01E01, the first episode of 2012, and is now S00E17. Other episodes
numbered "Episode N" with no series, as in Casualty, keep Series 1
(GitHub #32). A special still unmatched keeps the numbering it had,
unless that number is a guess of any of these kinds and TheTVDB has a
differently titled episode there, aired more than a week away. Then it
is left out rather than offered as that episode: The Repair Shop's
signed "At Christmas 2025" came out as S00E01, TheTVDB's 2017 Christmas
special. Other unmatched episodes keep their numbering, since a
bought-in series often reaches iPlayer years after TheTVDB's air date.
Daily programmes whose episode title is the date keep their date
titles. A title after a label such as "Prequel: " is not matched on its
own, so an extra about an episode does not take the episode's number.
Episodes numbered from TheTVDB ignore the per-show series and episode
overrides, which exist to correct BBC numbering; a custom name and Force
Date Based still apply, and a special whose title an override changes
is never left out. Each show's episode list is cached for 12 hours,
and a failed lookup for 5 minutes. If Skyhook cannot be reached, the
search answers with BBC numbering as before.
The RSS feed carries no TVDB ID, so it numbers the episodes of shows
Sonarr has already searched for by TVDB ID, which iplayer-arr
remembers. Those items carry the show's Sonarr title and TVDB ID
(Doctor.Who.2023.S00E05.Joy.to.the.World...), in place of any custom
name, so Sonarr files each under the series whose numbers it has,
although iPlayer calls Doctor Who (2005) and Doctor Who (2023) both
"Doctor Who". The feed waits up to 5 seconds for Skyhook. A lookup
still running then is dropped and tried again at the next poll, and
until a list arrives that show keeps BBC numbering. A show whose
iPlayer name matches no show Sonarr has searched for by TVDB ID keeps
BBC numbering in the feed, and so does a text search for it.
GitHub #60.
Upgrade notes - Specials Sonarr imported before this release may be filed as another
episode, for example Porridge's "No Way Out" as S00E04 "The Porridge
Movie: Doing Time", or Doctor Who's "The Runaway Bride" as S01E04
"Aliens of London". They are worth checking. To replace a wrong one,
first delete its entry from History on iplayer-arr's dashboard, as the
1.8.3 notes below describe, then delete the file in Sonarr and search
for the episode again. - Series and episode overrides set up to correct specials are no longer
needed for episodes TheTVDB numbers, and no longer apply to them. They
still apply to everything else.
