Feature Update

Welcome to the KemonoDownloader 5.12.0 release!

This is a feature release that introduces a new Thumbnail Downloader tab as a practical fallback while primary media download servers remain unavailable, adds Auto Rename by order and Post Text description downloading, and expands the test suite.

The main improvements are:

• New Thumbnail Downloader tab with Post Mode / Creator Mode support
• Thumbnail folder strategies that mirror your existing creator folder settings
• Optional “Auto Rename and sort File name by order”
• Optional “Download Post Text” descriptions saved alongside thumbnails
• Dynamic domain context + improved API / 403 handling
• Expanded unit and integration tests

As always, KemonoDownloader remains fully open-source and free to use, modify, and build.

Site Availability Status

As of August 01, 2026, primary full-resolution media download servers for Kemono.cr and Coomer.st may experience downtime, rotation, or outages. To ensure users can always archive content, Pawchive.pw serves as an alternative full-resolution media source, and the new Thumbnail Downloader tab has been introduced. Because thumbnail delivery servers (img.kemono.cr, img.coomer.st, img.pawchive.pw) remain active and operational during media server outages, the Thumbnail Downloader tab allows users to continue downloading post preview images, providing a working fallback option (albeit at thumbnail resolution).

Note: Status reflects the availability of backend media download servers. Front-end availability and thumbnail servers may vary.

feat: Thumbnail Downloader tab, Auto Rename by order, and Post Text description downloading

• Add new Thumbnail Downloader tab (kd_thumbnaildl.py).
  Introduces a dynamic thumbnail-only downloader tab supporting both Post Mode and Creator Mode. Features URL queue management, bulk file import, filter search, multi-selection, preview modal integration, and UI locking during detection and download operations.

• Mirror creator folder strategy settings for thumbnail downloads.
  Thumbnails follow the exact folder layout configured in settings (per_post, by_file_type, or single_folder) under Downloads/Thumbnails/{user_id}_{creator_name}/.

• Add “Auto Rename and sort File name by order” option for thumbnails.
  Optionally prepends per-post sequential ordering indexes (1_, 2_, 3_...) to downloaded thumbnail filenames for easy sorting.

• Add “Download Post Text” description option for thumbnails.
  Optionally fetches and saves post descriptions (desc_{post_id}.txt) alongside thumbnails with automatic HTML stripping via BeautifulSoup and 403 HTTP bypass handling (Accept: text/css).

• Dynamic domain context propagation and robust API error handling.
  Ensures service API calls, creator profile metadata resolution, and post text extraction correctly target the originating domain (kemono.cr, coomer.st, etc.) with 403 Cloudflare bypass retries.

• Unit tests and integration test suite expansion.
  Adds 11 comprehensive unit tests covering thumbnail detection, download thread, folder strategies, hash DB integration, preview modal, UI filter controls, and post text file creation.

Note on the Thumbnail Downloader:
The Thumbnail Downloader tab was introduced as a functional fallback because primary media download servers for Kemono.cr and Coomer.st are experiencing downtime/unavailability, whereas thumbnail delivery servers (img.*) remain active and operational. This enables users to continue downloading content preview images and post descriptions at thumbnail resolution.
