VortX 0.3.8 Beta 16 (build 138)

latest releases: v0.4.0-beta.20, v0.4.0-beta.19, v0.4.0-beta.18...

A fix-focused beta over Beta 15 (build 138). The Mac crash is fully closed, the Collections hub shows sources even for brand-new releases, scrub previews capture on every kind of stream, downloads survive an app relaunch, and a batch of Apple TV playback fixes are in that I need your help confirming on real hardware. In-place update, nothing resets. Please install it and report anything off, especially the Apple TV notes near the bottom.

New in this build (138)

  • Mac is stable throughout. It no longer crashes when you open Downloads, a title, a browse grid, or the sign-in screen. Beta 15 fixed the search bar; this closes every remaining screen.
  • The Collections hub shows sources for brand-new releases. A title too new to be in the metadata catalog still loads its artwork and its streams from its IMDb id, instead of an empty page.
  • Scrub-preview thumbnails capture on debrid and direct streams, not just torrents. Previews start from the title's runtime and refine once playback reports the real length.
  • A finished download saves even if the app restarted while it ran, instead of failing with "cannot create file".
  • Apple TV playback: Dolby Vision plays through the right engine, audio stays at 48 kHz, and the full streaming read-ahead buffer is back, so large 4K files buffer well ahead again.
  • Downloads is one pill inside Library, off Home and Discover. Mac browsing has a visible search field and a Back button (or Escape).

Also fixed since Beta 15

  • Theatrical and digital release dates show on a movie's page.
  • The hero trailer plays in the app's own player, never a browser window.
  • Apple TV audio passthrough no longer freezes the player when a receiver negotiates a raw bitstream, and the Playback-info panel now reports the active audio output, route, and passthrough state for diagnosis.
  • A collection opens as a clean episodic list rather than a flat grid.

Please test on your Apple TV

This build compiles and runs, but these need your hardware to confirm, so please send a note if any are still off:

  • Dolby Vision fires (the DV badge shows) on a file that carries it.
  • Audio under Dolby Atmos or Best Available is not silent.
  • The read-ahead buffer holds well ahead again on a large 4K file (no early stalls).
  • Scrub previews capture while you watch a debrid title.
  • The Collections hub shows sources when you open a brand-new release.
  • A download finishes and saves to your library.

Install

Mac (.dmg, easiest, never expires). Download VortX-macOS-v0.3.8-beta16-ci.dmg, drag VortX into Applications, then clear Apple's one-time quarantine: open it once, click Done, then System Settings > Privacy & Security > Open Anyway (or run xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/VortX.app). Full guide: Install on Mac.

iPhone, iPad, Apple TV (sideload the IPA). The IPAs are unsigned, because VortX is open-source and distributed outside the App Store with no Apple Developer ID yet, so you re-sign them yourself with Sideloadly, AltStore / SideStore, or Signulous. No jailbreak. Full guide: Installing on iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV.

Each asset lists a SHA-256 checksum so you can confirm your download matches what the public GitHub Actions workflow built from this code.
