VortX (0.3.8) Beta 4

Beta 4 is the reliability-and-control release. The big one: cross-device sync can no longer lose a profile or its watch history (Beta 3 had a path where a device with fewer profiles could overwrite the others). On top of that, a secondary profile's library and Continue Watching now actually show in the app and sync to every device within seconds, you can manage everything from the web dashboard, including every per-profile setting, played magnets and torrents save to your library, the app tells you when a new build is out, and the source picker no longer gets fooled into a fake "4K" pick by an add-on's diagnostic cards. In-place update; nothing resets. This is a beta, so please install it and report anything off.

Fixed since Beta 3

If you are coming from Beta 3, this is what is new:

• Sync can no longer delete a profile or its watch history. Profiles now MERGE across devices instead of one device's roster overwriting another's, and "Sync now" offers a clear choice when two devices differ. This is the fix for the lost-profile reports.
• A secondary profile's library and Continue Watching now appear in the app, not only on the dashboard, and sync to every device within about five seconds of a change. Adding to a secondary profile's library lands on THAT profile, never the main account.
• The "Watch in 4K" button no longer lies. It was being fooled by an aggregator's "reasons / statistics" cards, which carry a 4K tag but are not real streams, into picking a fake 4K while every real stream was 1080p. Those cards are now filtered out of the picker, the quality tabs, and the list.
• Route-aware audio, so Dolby Atmos content is not silent on the built-in speakers (#78).
• Played magnets and torrents save to your library, matched to the real title where possible (#81).
• The app now tells you when a new version is out, with a banner and a Settings > Check for Updates button.

Added

• Manage your profiles entirely from the web dashboard. Rename a profile, set or clear its PIN, create or delete profiles, add titles to a profile's library by searching, and a Family toggle that lets you (the account owner) manage a child's or partner's profile without its PIN. Editing a locked profile asks for its PIN, verified in your browser, never sent anywhere. Everything syncs to your devices.
• Every per-profile app setting, on the web too: avatar, accent theme, OLED dark, text size, audio and subtitle language, subtitle look (font, size, color, background, scale), and your source-ranking preference, all per profile.
• One-tap and automatic updates with AltStore or SideStore. Add the source https://vortx.tv/vortx-altstore.json once and VortX updates itself there whenever a new beta ships. Apple TV stays Sideloadly.
• Inline trailers and a muted hero clip on the detail and home screens (#44).
• Picture-in-Picture for the HLS and Twitch player path.
• Keyboard navigation on the Mac Home screen (arrow keys, Enter, Escape).
• Real-time sync under the hood: a change on one device pushes to the others over a live connection, with a poll fallback.

Website (vortx.tv)

• Full profile management on the dashboard: rename, PIN, family edit, create, delete, add-to-library, and every per-profile setting.
• The dashboard shows your edits immediately instead of waiting for a device to apply them, and the dark theme is more readable.
• Hardened the backend after a security pass: tightened the add-on-fetch guard so it cannot reach private-network addresses, added rate limits, and escaped account emails. Everything stays end-to-end encrypted; the site only ever holds ciphertext.

What we're working on now

• One player that plays everything, with our own controls, including true Dolby Vision. Apple TV currently plays only the HDR10 layer of a Dolby Vision file; we are routing Dolby Vision (and adaptive HLS) through Apple's own pipeline while keeping the VortX controls, episodes, and subtitles on top.
• The remaining Apple TV audio reports (Dolby Atmos output, spatial sound with AirPods).
• Android, wiring the shared engine.

Install

Mac (.dmg, easiest, never expires). Download VortX-macOS-v0.3.8-ci.dmg, drag VortX into Applications, then clear Apple's one-time quarantine: open it once, click Done, then System Settings > Privacy & Security > Open Anyway (or run xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/VortX.app). iPhone, iPad, Apple TV (sideload the IPA). The IPAs are unsigned, because VortX is open-source and distributed outside the App Store with no Apple Developer ID yet, so you re-sign them yourself with Sideloadly, AltStore / SideStore, or Signulous. Each asset lists a SHA-256 checksum so you can confirm your download matches what the public GitHub Actions workflow built from this code.
