0.3.14 Beta 30 - Apple playback reliability, watch-state, and player-control fixes (build 232)

Install this over any earlier Apple build. Beta 30 is a focused Apple reliability release. It fixes a Dolby Vision fallback after a quiet remux read, preserves the intended pause, episode, and source actions, makes watched and Continue Watching state more dependable, and restores the subtitle and seek-preview data paths. It is available for Apple TV, iPhone, iPad, and Mac only. Android artifacts are not part of this release.

What's fixed

Dolby Vision stays on its intended path after a quiet remux read. A quiet read can no longer leave a sticky soft interrupt that poisons later reads and forces an HDR10/libmpv fallback. Apple TV, iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

Apple TV resume recovery now ends when recovery succeeds. Once playback proves that it has reached a resumed position, its resume watchdog is cancelled. A later manual seek can no longer be misread as a failed resume or reapply stale recovery state. Dolby Vision diagnostics now distinguish actual dependent-layer evidence from ordinary files with multiple video tracks. Apple TV.

Pause, episode, and source controls now carry out the action selected. An internal cache-flush EOF is suppressed instead of being treated as media completion and triggering auto-advance. Returning to a series detail page keeps the episode that was selected. In-player Previous Episode and Next Episode resolve and play their intended neighbours. The source selector again presents Quality and Audio-language filters before matching sources, and the title detail page can select the player before playback begins. Apple TV.

Watching state is dependable. Episode watched marks no longer rely on a transient in-memory route, and Continue Watching deduplicates a series instead of rendering it twice. Apple TV, iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

Subtitle fetches and seek previews use their corrected paths. Subtitle downloads accept repeated harmless non-framing headers, while ambiguous duplicate Content-Length or Transfer-Encoding headers remain rejected. Seek previews use the repaired capture path and stop repeatedly requesting unsupported HDR pixel formats after a capture failure. Apple TV, iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

TorBox partial results remain usable. The invalid account-host search fallback is removed. Healthy search legs still contribute partial results when the primary service is unavailable.

Diagnostics and reliability

  • Cache-flush EOFs are no longer reported as media completion. Long flush durations in this diagnostic can reflect background-suspended wall time rather than a foreground hang.
  • Crash reporting separates a prior unclean exit from a crash with captured signal or stack evidence.
  • Frame telemetry identified rendering/capture pressure rather than decoder drops. This build handles unsupported HDR capture and adds a repeated-capture circuit breaker. Physical Apple TV pacing remains a device-test follow-up.

Platform scope

Apple-only beta. Beta 30 contains Apple TV, iPhone, iPad, and Mac artifacts. It contains no Android artifact.

Please test

  • Play a Dolby Vision title through a quiet or slow remux stretch and confirm it stays on the intended path rather than falling back to HDR10.
  • Resume on Apple TV, then make a manual seek after playback reaches the saved point. Confirm stale recovery is not reapplied.
  • Pause a series episode, use Previous/Next Episode and source filters, and confirm each action affects the intended item.
  • Confirm watched state and Continue Watching remain correct after returning to a detail page.
  • Try subtitles and seek previews on a difficult HDR title. If anything fails, share the Diagnostics log from Settings > Diagnostics.

Mac (.dmg, easiest, never expires). Download VortX-macOS-v0.3.14-beta.30-ci.dmg, drag VortX into Applications, then clear Apple's one-time quarantine: open it once, click Done, then System Settings > Privacy & Security > Open Anyway (or run xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/VortX.app). Full guide: Install on Mac.

iPhone, iPad, Apple TV (sideload the IPA). The IPAs are unsigned, because VortX is open-source and distributed outside the App Store with no Apple Developer ID yet, so you re-sign them yourself with Sideloadly, AltStore / SideStore, or Signulous. No jailbreak. For one-tap updates, add the VortX source to AltStore / SideStore or your sideloading service so new builds appear automatically: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/VortXTV/VortX/main/altstore/source.json. Each Apple asset lists a SHA-256 checksum (SHA256SUMS-ci.txt) so you can confirm your download matches what the public GitHub Actions workflow built from this code.
