VortX 0.3.14 Beta 3 is the largest beta of the 0.3.14 line, built on Beta 2 with nothing reset. The headline is a deeper Trakt and SIMKL: alongside the sign-in, scrobbling, watchlist, and history that already shipped, you can now check in to what you are watching, rate a title one to ten, take a resume point from Trakt, and see your Trakt lists and your SIMKL plan-to-watch as their own rows on Home. Apple TV gains a Top Shelf that shows your Continue Watching on the system Home screen, and an opt-in Match Frame Rate for judder-free 24p film. Under the hood, a real sync fix stops one device from overwriting another, a setting you change on the web dashboard now lands correctly on the app, and the Apple TV focus highlight is corrected at its root. Android moves onto the same libmpv player as the Apple apps, with trickplay scrub-preview capture, a real settings surface, and library transfer.
Honest note up front: the sync data-loss fix is build-verified across all four Apple apps and adversarially reviewed, but a real two-device sync needs a reinstall and re-login on your own devices to confirm end to end. The Dolby Vision handoff is proven correct at the byte level but still wants an Apple TV to confirm on hardware. Picture-in-Picture stays with the AVPlayer engine: a Dolby Vision title that has to fall back to the built-in player for a specific release loses PiP with it, and bringing PiP to that engine is planned work, not in this build (thank you konrepo for the precise logs on #147). In-place update, nothing resets.
New in Beta 3
- Trakt check-in. A check-in on any title tells Trakt you are watching it right now, for the times you are watching somewhere VortX cannot see: a cinema, a broadcast, someone else's screen. It never touches your VortX resume point. Apple TV, iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
- Trakt ratings. Rate any movie or show from one to ten and VortX sends it to your Trakt account. Apple TV, iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
- A resume point from Trakt. If Trakt has a position for a title you have not started in VortX, the title page offers it as a suggestion, without ever overwriting your own VortX position. Apple TV, iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
- Your Trakt lists and SIMKL plan-to-watch on Home. Your Trakt personal lists and your SIMKL plan-to-watch now appear as their own rows on Home, resolved to full posters. Apple TV, iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
- An Apple TV Top Shelf. With VortX selected on the Home screen, the top shelf above it shows the titles you are partway through, and picking one jumps straight into that title. Apple TV.
- Match Frame Rate. Turn it on in Settings and a 24p film asks your Apple TV for a 24Hz-family display mode instead of being pulled to 60Hz, which removes the slight judder in slow pans. Off by default, and it only ever asks for a rate the file actually carries. Apple TV.
- Auto-delete watched downloads. A Settings switch that removes a downloaded title once you have finished watching it, so your device reclaims the space on its own. Apple TV, iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
- Android moves onto libmpv. The native Android app now plays through the same libmpv engine as the Apple apps, with trickplay scrub-preview capture, a real Playback and Sources settings surface that reads and writes for real, and library transfer. Android.
Fixed in Beta 3
- Your account data no longer gets lost between devices. A sync bug could let one device overwrite settings, profiles, or library entries another device had just changed; syncing now merges each device's latest instead of replacing wholesale, so nothing you change on one device is quietly undone by another. This one needs a reinstall and re-login across two devices to confirm end to end. Apple TV, iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
- A setting changed on the web dashboard now lands correctly on your devices. Some appearance and safety settings used different wording on the website than in the app, so a change made on the web could arrive as a value the app could not display and left the row blank; the app now understands both spellings and keeps your setting intact. - Apple TV focus looks right everywhere. The stray white system highlight that appeared behind some buttons and cards is gone, replaced end to end by VortX's own focus treatment, and the glass surfaces now sit above the background instead of blending into it. Apple TV.
- Dolby Vision, confirmed at the stream level. The Dolby compatibility brand mismatch that made the player refuse some titles is corrected and verified byte for byte. A title can still fall back to the built-in player if Apple's own decoder rejects a specific release part way through; when it does, the diagnostic log records exactly where. Please test
This beta is verified by build and code review; real-hardware reports are what close it. If anything is off, export the diagnostic log (Settings; on iPhone, iPad, and Mac you can save it straight to Files) and open an issue.
- Sync, the main ask. Reinstall on one device and sign back into your VortX account, and confirm your settings, profiles, and library come back and are not overwritten by your other devices. Change a setting on two devices and confirm neither undoes the other.
- Trakt and SIMKL. Check in to a title, rate one, and confirm both reach your Trakt account. Confirm your Trakt lists and SIMKL plan-to-watch appear as rows on Home.
- Apple TV Top Shelf. Start watching something, back out, and confirm it appears on the Home screen top shelf when VortX is selected, and that picking it opens the title.
- Match Frame Rate. Turn it on, play a 24p film, and confirm slow pans are smoother.
- Dolby Vision on Apple TV. Match Dynamic Range ON, play your 4K Dolby Vision titles, and confirm the TV reads DOLBY VISION and your receiver reads Atmos. If any drops to HDR10, export the log; the [dv] lines say exactly where.
- Apple TV focus. Walk every focusable screen and confirm the highlight is VortX's own, with no stray white system platter.
Install
Mac (.dmg, easiest, never expires). Download VortX-macOS-v0.3.14-beta.3-ci.dmg, drag VortX into Applications, then clear Apple's one-time quarantine: open it once, click Done, then System Settings > Privacy & Security > Open Anyway (or run xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/VortX.app). iPhone, iPad, Apple TV (sideload the IPA). The IPAs are unsigned, because VortX is open-source and distributed outside the App Store with no Apple Developer ID yet, so you re-sign them yourself with Sideloadly, AltStore / SideStore, or Signulous.
