VortX 0.3.11 (build 165, pre-release). The stutter and Dolby Vision follow-up. Two regressions from the build 163/164 test are fixed: an Apple TV playback stutter that built up over a long session, and a 4K Dolby Vision stream being dropped to HDR10 too early. Turkish (and Dutch, Polish, Swedish) are now selectable as default track languages. Everything from builds 155 to 164 is included. In testing; this becomes the 0.3.12 release once verified on-device. In-place update, nothing resets.

New in build 165

  • Playback no longer stutters or slows the app down over a long session. The Apple TV player was re-deciding which engine to use (the built-in player or Apple's player) on every screen refresh, several times a second while a movie played, and writing a diagnostic line each time. On a long 4K session that piled up into hundreds of identical log lines plus real work on the main thread, felt as stutter and general sluggishness. The engine is now chosen once when a stream starts, exactly how iPhone, iPad, and Mac already worked. The engine choice itself is unchanged, so nothing about which player handles a given stream changes.
  • A 4K Dolby Vision stream that is still loading is no longer dropped to HDR10 too early. The true Dolby Vision lane rebuilds the stream on the fly, and a slow debrid source can still be preparing past twenty seconds, but a fixed twenty second start timer gave up at that point and fell back to the built-in player (HDR10). That timer now waits, up to about a minute, for as long as the stream is measurably still loading, and gives up right away the moment it actually stalls, so a genuinely dead source still falls back fast. If your Dolby Vision titles were flipping to HDR10 after a beat, this is the most likely reason.
  • Every Dolby Vision step is now in the log you export. Some Dolby Vision and HDR messages were being written to an internal log that the in-app export never included, so a report could look like nothing happened when the app was actually doing the right thing. The display-mode request, a Match Dynamic Range OFF notice, the remux mount and classify, and the exact reason for any fallback now all land in the exportable diagnostics log, so if anything still plays as HDR one exported log pins the exact cause.
  • Turkish, Dutch, Polish, and Swedish added to the default Audio and Subtitle language lists. The default track-language list did not include Turkish, so it could not be set as a preferred audio or subtitle language. It is there now, on every device.

Honest note: Dolby Vision still requires Match Dynamic Range ON in tvOS Settings, Video and Audio, Match Content (off by default). And the audio ceiling no Apple TV app escapes still applies: a file whose only Atmos track is TrueHD or DTS decodes to multichannel PCM in every app; Atmos lights from a Dolby Digital Plus (E-AC3 + Atmos) track.

Also in build 165 (from 155 to 164)

  • Build 164's "Cannot Open" fix (a web-sourced single-layer Dolby Vision MKV that mounted then failed with "Cannot Open" now rebuilds its video header and plays, or steps aside instantly with the reason logged).
  • Build 163's Dolby Vision root-cause work: the display-mode request now asks for real Dolby Vision and fires before the video mounts; a resumed Dolby Vision title starts from the beginning so a resume can no longer kill the true-DV lane; the built-in player is honest about the Dolby Vision it tone-maps; the real Dolby Atmos track wins on the true-DV lane; and the silent ways Dolby Vision gets defeated now tell you.
  • The Dolby Vision MKV "can't play this file" fix, Dolby Vision with TrueHD/DTS converted for playback, community sources through your own debrid or TorBox, AllDebrid/Premiumize cache-check, VortX-account QR sign-in, add-on reorder, back-to-episode, back-to-top, the Mac crash and freeze fixes, exact-source Continue Watching, and the iPhone/iPad download fix.

Please test (Apple TV + receiver)

  • The stutter: play a movie for several minutes, switch a couple of sources or episodes, and let a 4K stream run. The app should stay smooth; no build-up of sluggishness.
  • Dolby Vision: FIRST set these on the Apple TV (without them no app, including Stremio or Infuse, can show Dolby Vision or Atmos): Settings, Video and Audio, Match Content, turn Match Dynamic Range ON. Settings, Video and Audio, Audio Format, keep Change Format OFF (Auto) and make sure Dolby Atmos is available/on. In VortX: Settings, Player engine = Auto, keep DV for MKV ON. Then play a 4K Dolby Vision movie with a Dolby Digital Plus / Atmos track, starting fresh from the beginning. Give it a few extra seconds on a cold debrid source; the TV should read DOLBY VISION and the receiver Dolby Atmos. If it still shows HDR10, export diagnostics from VortX Settings and send the log; it now records every Dolby Vision step and the exact fallback reason.
  • Languages: Settings, Audio and Subtitles, the default Audio language and Subtitle language lists now include Turkish.
