VortX 0.3.11 (build 162, pre-release). The Dolby Vision fix for Apple TV. Dolby Vision now lights up as Dolby Vision on every Dolby Vision file, and Dolby Vision MKVs that used to error now take the true-Dolby-Vision path. Everything from builds 155 to 161 is included. In testing; this becomes the 0.3.12 release once verified on-device. In-place update, nothing resets.

New in build 162

  • Dolby Vision now shows as Dolby Vision, not HDR10, on Apple TV. When a Dolby Vision file played through the built-in player (a Dolby Vision torrent, or a Dolby Vision MKV the true-Dolby-Vision path could not take), the app asked the TV for HDR10 and the TV badged HDR, even though the picture was Dolby Vision. It now asks the TV for its Dolby Vision mode on any Dolby Vision file, so the TV lights Dolby Vision the same way the well-known players do on the same files. This is the fix for "DV plays as HDR10." (Needs Match Content / Match Dynamic Range on in tvOS Settings, Video and Audio.) The display mode also correctly follows a source or episode change, so switching to a non-Dolby-Vision source drops back to HDR10 and switching to a Dolby Vision one engages it.
  • A Dolby Vision MKV no longer gets stuck on "can't play this file." A debrid link whose web address happened to contain an ".mp4" fragment could send a Dolby Vision MKV to the player path that cannot open MKV, which failed with "AVPlayer can't play this file, pick an MP4 source." The app now reads the real file name and container instead of the whole address, so those Dolby Vision MKVs take the true-Dolby-Vision remux path, where the picture is real Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos passes straight through to your receiver.

An honest note on the ceiling: for a Dolby Vision file that must stay on the built-in player (mainly torrents), the receiver still shows multichannel surround rather than the Dolby Atmos badge; lighting the Atmos badge there needs a player-engine rebuild that is coming in the next build. Debrid Dolby Vision MKVs now take the true-Dolby-Vision path, where Dolby Atmos passes through for real.

Also in build 162 (from 155 to 161)

  • Dolby Vision with TrueHD or DTS audio plays as true Dolby Vision with full surround (on-the-fly conversion); the true-Dolby-Vision path maps the real multichannel Atmos or surround bed (not a stereo or commentary track), staying in your language; the built-in player opens at your receiver's real channel count; community sources play through your own debrid or TorBox; native cache-check for AllDebrid and Premiumize; VortX-account QR sign-in on Apple TV; add-on reorder; back-to-episode after auto-play; back-to-top; the Mac crash and freeze fixes; exact-source Continue Watching; and the iPhone and iPad download fix.

See CHANGELOG.md for the complete list.

Please test (Apple TV + receiver)

  • Dolby Vision: play a Dolby Vision movie (debrid or torrent). The TV should now show DOLBY VISION, not HDR. If it still shows HDR, confirm Match Content is on (tvOS Settings, Video and Audio, Match Dynamic Range).
  • Dolby Vision MKV that used to error: play a Dolby Vision .mkv from a debrid source that previously said "can't play this file." It should now play as Dolby Vision, and a Dolby Digital Plus / Atmos track should reach your receiver as Dolby Atmos.
  • Switching sources: start a Dolby Vision source, then switch to a non-Dolby-Vision source of the same title; the TV should drop from Dolby Vision back to HDR, and back again on a DV source.
  • Confirm ordinary (non-Dolby-Vision) movies, live TV, and torrents still play exactly as before.
