1.2.1.1 — New Devices, Controllers, Input Features & Hotfixes

Since the release of 1.0.0.0, we've continued expanding Handheld Companion's hardware support while improving controller handling, input customization, performance, and the overall user experience.

This release adds support for new devices and controllers, introduces remote/network controller support, expands touchpad and keyboard customization, improves virtual controller performance, and brings a wide range of UI, power-management, and stability improvements.

A follow-up hotfix also addresses several issues discovered after the initial 1.2.0.x releases, particularly around controller streaming, trackpad haptics, response curves, profiles, and the new 2026 Steam Controller.

Highlights

Expanded Device Support

Handheld Companion now supports:

  • OneXPlayer X2
  • OneXPlayer X2 Mini Pro
  • Valve Fremont (Steam Machine)
  • Legion Go and Legion Go 2 DirectInput mode
  • Steam Deck OLED firmware 0x1100
  • 2026 Steam Controller

Remote & Network Controllers

Controllers can now be connected through the network, allowing Handheld Companion to use their input and motion data as if they were locally connected.

Remote controller support includes:

  • Automatic controller discovery over the network
  • Button, axis, and controller-state streaming
  • Accelerometer and gyroscope streaming
  • Controller metadata and button glyph synchronization
  • Connection and disconnection management
  • Remote controller sessions
  • Dedicated remote controller section
  • Disconnect action for network controllers
  • Protection against network controllers discovering themselves through local discovery

When streaming a controller, the host device can automatically dim its display and apply the profile's on-battery power preset to help preserve battery life.

This makes it possible to use a handheld as a controller, or use a controller physically connected to another device as an input source for Handheld Companion without requiring a direct USB or Bluetooth connection.

Controller Improvements

  • Added support for the 2026 Steam Controller.
