What's new in v0.13.0-beta.4

This beta lets an optional Pak Rat emulator bring its own RetroArch and still use
Leaf's in-game menu. The first one is Yabadabadoo, an experimental Sega Saturn
core. DSperate 3.0.3 is in Pak Rat, much faster but unable to load save states from
DSperate 2.x. YabaSanshiro's Saturn buttons now follow the shape of a Saturn pad,
Russian covers every screen, and Chinese covers the delete screens. Everything from
beta.1 through beta.3 is included.

Added in beta.4

Yabadabadoo, an experimental Saturn core

Yabadabadoo is a Sega Saturn core built for low-power handhelds, by
ProRapSuperstarOriginalMaster.
It's a fork of the libretro port of Yabause, made to run Saturn games on the Miyoo
Mini. It's experimental: expect some games to glitch, run slowly, or not start, and
keep YabaSanshiro for the games it already runs well.

  • Open System with MENU, go to Actions, choose Pak Rat, and install
Yabadabadoo. It adds a core, not a system: press X on a Saturn game, or on
the Saturn system, choose Core, then Yabadabadoo (experimental).
    YabaSanshiro stays the default.
  • It needs a real Saturn BIOS in BIOS/SATURN/: sega_101.bin, mpr-17933.bin,
or saturn_bios.bin. The Saturn BIOS option doesn't apply to it.
  • Its recompiler only exists for 32-bit ARM, so the pak brings its own 32-bit
RetroArch. Leaf runs that RetroArch in place of its own and controls it the same
way: MENU opens Leaf's in-game menu, with save states and their thumbnails,
Reset, disc changes for .m3u games, and Save & Quit, and the Game
    Switcher
works. Your RetroArch settings apply to it too.
  • Recording and Bluetooth audio aren't available with it.
  • In-game saves go to Saves/Yabadabadoo/ and states to States/Yabadabadoo/,
    separate from YabaSanshiro's.

DSperate 3.0.3 in Pak Rat

DSperate, the optional Nintendo DS emulator by
beebono, is now version 3.0.3 in Pak Rat. It isn't part
of Leaf, so update it from Pak Rat. It runs on Leaf 0.12 and later.

  • Save states from DSperate 2.x don't load in 3.0.3, because the state format
changed. DSperate shows a message instead of loading an older state, and the game
keeps running. Your in-game saves carry over, so save in the game before you
update. Your old state files stay on the card.
  • Heavy games now run at full speed. DSperate 3 is faster and scales the picture on
the GPU: New Super Mario Bros., Golden Sun: Dark Dawn, and The Legend of Zelda:
Spirit Tracks reach 100%, and Mario Kart DS 99.8%.
  • DSperate 3 uses a faster CPU timing model. If a game hangs or goes out of sync,
set timing = exact under [emu] in that game's INI.
  • The controls stay the same, and DSperate still signs in to RetroAchievements with
the account in Settings > Games > Accounts.

Saturn buttons that follow a Saturn pad

In YabaSanshiro, the default Saturn core, the face buttons now follow the shape of a
Saturn pad. Y, B, and A, left to right around your thumb, are the
Saturn's A, B, and C, and L1, X, and R1 are its X, Y, and Z. A, B, and C
used to be on B, A, and L1. L2 and R2 are still L and R, and
Yabadabadoo uses the same layout.

  • If you remapped YabaSanshiro's buttons in RetroArch, your remap now applies on top
of the new layout, so check it.
  • YabaSanshiro Standalone keeps its own layout.

Translations

  • Русский now covers every screen, including Hide Game, Hidden Games, and
Delete Game, with an update from LVD14 and
    Atanvaron
    (Jawaka #232).
  • 中文 now covers the Delete Game confirmation, its Files list, and the
    result, by AlexL
    (Jawaka #230).

Smaller changes

  • When Resume Game on Boot can't load your save because RetroAchievements
Hardcore mode is on, the notice now says so. Hardcore doesn't allow loading a save,
so turn it off in RetroArch's Achievements settings if you want your games to
    resume.
  • If RetroArch is slow to answer when you open the in-game menu, the menu asks again
instead of showing Command: timeout and no save slots until you reopen it.
  • Leaf's RetroArch includes a fix for its SDL OpenGL context: it now keeps the
OpenGL ES version a core asks for. Leaf's own setup didn't need it, but
    Yabadabadoo's RetroArch did.
  • For pak developers: a content pak can ship its own RetroArch for a core and still
get Leaf's in-game menu. See the
    LEAF-RA-1 contract.

Included from beta.3

Delete Game, simplified

Options > Delete Game now removes the game you picked: the file you launch and
every file it names. A .m3u takes its discs with it, a .cue its tracks, and a
.gdi, .toc, or .cmd the files it lists. Leaf no longer searches your other games
and both cards for files they might share.

  • The confirmation shows how many files the game has, how much space they take, and
which card they're on. Press X (Files) to see each file. Cancel is
    selected first.
  • There is no undo and no Trash. Leaf warns that a delete might not remove every
file your game uses. Files beside a disc image that it doesn't name, such as .sub
or .sbi, stay, and folders are never removed.
  • Shared files aren't protected any more. If two games use the same file, for
example two playlists that list the same disc, deleting one deletes that file and
the other game stops working. Check the Files list before you confirm.
  • Your saves, states, and artwork are kept.
  • Delete Game is now offered for every system except arcade systems (including
Neo Geo, NAOMI, and Atomiswave, where deleting a parent ROM breaks its clones),
Ports (PortMaster manages those), systems a content pak adds, and EasyRPG.
Saturn, Dreamcast, PC Engine, DOS, and Amiga gain it. For DOS, Amiga, and PC-98,
Leaf warns that progress stored inside a writable game image goes with the image.
  • When it's done, Leaf tells you how many files it deleted, or which file it couldn't
    delete.
  • Hidden Games only unhides. To delete a hidden game, unhide it first.

Manage Discs is gone

Testers found no use for hiding or deleting one disc of a multi-disc game, so
Options > Manage Discs is gone, along with hiding and deleting single discs. Hide
or delete the whole game instead.

Discs you hid in beta.2 still show in Settings > Games > Hidden Games, by file
name. Unhide them there to clear the list.

A stick that rests at center

On some devices, a released analog stick kept reading as slightly pushed. Games could
see a small drift, and in DSperate a tap of MENU could stop working after you used
the stick or the device slept, until you rolled the stick around. Leaf now ignores the
small offset a released stick reports, so it reads as centered.

  • Without a stick calibration, Leaf now uses a default range that every Miniloong
Pocket 1 measured so far reaches, so the stick covers its full throw without
    calibrating.
  • A calibration you saved before keeps working, and gets the same treatment at rest.
  • After the device wakes, or the screen turns back on, games no longer see the stick
    where it was before.

Joe's Calibrage

  • Calibrate now asks only for the range: roll the stick around the edge, then
press A to save. The centering step is gone, because your device re-centers the
    stick every time it starts.
  • Test Stick shows what games see, using Leaf's mapping. With no profile saved, it
shows Leaf's default and labels it default.

Translations

  • 中文 now covers Hide Game, Hidden Games, Delete Game, and Force Off
    Hold
    , by AlexL
    (Jawaka #226).
  • Русский reads more naturally throughout, thanks to
    LVD14
    (Jawaka #227).
For example, Automatic now fits both places it appears, and the force-off hint
no longer sounds like the normal shutdown that saves your game.

Tester focus

  • Yabadabadoo: install it from Pak Rat, add a BIOS, and play. Try MENU and
the in-game menu, saving and loading states, Save & Quit, the Game
    Switcher
, and a two-disc .m3u game (change discs, then Reset). Hold the
power button in a game and check that it resumes at the next boot, with Hardcore
off. Tell us which games run, and how well.
  • DSperate 3.0.3: save in the game first, then update from Pak Rat. Try your
heavy games, and check that a state from DSperate 2.x shows the message instead of
    loading.
  • YabaSanshiro buttons: check every face and shoulder button in a Saturn game you
know, and any remap you made before.
  • RetroArch: RetroArch was rebuilt for this beta. Play a few games on other cores,
with and without a shader, and tell us if anything changed.
  • Chinese and Russian: go through the hide and delete screens.
  • From earlier betas: Delete Game, the stick at rest, MENU after sleep,
Hide Game, Save Before Power Off, and Resume Game on Boot.

Expected, not faults: Yabadabadoo is experimental, and Recording and Bluetooth audio
aren't available with it. On beta.1 to beta.3, Pak Rat offers Yabadabadoo too, but
its core doesn't appear until you update to this beta. Hide Game, Hidden
Games
, and the delete screens are in English in every language apart from Chinese
and Russian. The
Save Before Power Off and Resume Game on Boot messages are translated only in
Chinese and Russian. The new notice when Hardcore stops a resume is in English in
every language. Discs you hid in beta.2 are listed in Hidden Games by file
name. Extra files beside a disc image stay after Delete Game. Hidden games show up
again if you go back to beta.1 or v0.12.1.

This beta includes everything in stable Leaf v0.12.1 and v0.13.0-beta.1 through
beta.3.
