What's new in v0.13.0-beta.3

This beta makes Delete Game simpler and offers it for most systems, and removes
Manage Discs. A released analog stick now rests at center in games, and the stick
covers its full range even if you never calibrated it. Chinese now covers hiding and
deleting games, and the Russian translation reads more naturally. Everything from
beta.1 and beta.2 is included.

Added in beta.3

Delete Game, simplified

Options > Delete Game now removes the game you picked: the file you launch and
every file it names. A .m3u takes its discs with it, a .cue its tracks, and a
.gdi, .toc, or .cmd the files it lists. Leaf no longer searches your other games
and both cards for files they might share.

  • The confirmation shows how many files the game has, how much space they take, and
which card they're on. Press X (Files) to see each file. Cancel is
    selected first.
  • There is no undo and no Trash. Leaf warns that a delete might not remove every
file your game uses. Files beside a disc image that it doesn't name, such as .sub
or .sbi, stay, and folders are never removed.
  • Shared files aren't protected any more. If two games use the same file, for
example two playlists that list the same disc, deleting one deletes that file and
the other game stops working. Check the Files list before you confirm.
  • Your saves, states, and artwork are kept.
  • Delete Game is now offered for every system except arcade systems (including
Neo Geo, NAOMI, and Atomiswave, where deleting a parent ROM breaks its clones),
Ports (PortMaster manages those), systems a content pak adds, and EasyRPG.
Saturn, Dreamcast, PC Engine, DOS, and Amiga gain it. For DOS, Amiga, and PC-98,
Leaf warns that progress stored inside a writable game image goes with the image.
  • When it's done, Leaf tells you how many files it deleted, or which file it couldn't
    delete.
  • Hidden Games only unhides. To delete a hidden game, unhide it first.

Manage Discs is gone

Testers found no use for hiding or deleting one disc of a multi-disc game, so
Options > Manage Discs is gone, along with hiding and deleting single discs. Hide
or delete the whole game instead.

Discs you hid in beta.2 still show in Settings > Games > Hidden Games, by file
name. Unhide them there to clear the list.

A stick that rests at center

On some devices, a released analog stick kept reading as slightly pushed. Games could
see a small drift, and in DSperate a tap of MENU could stop working after you used
the stick or the device slept, until you rolled the stick around. Leaf now ignores the
small offset a released stick reports, so it reads as centered.

  • Without a stick calibration, Leaf now uses a default range that every Miniloong
Pocket 1 measured so far reaches, so the stick covers its full throw without
    calibrating.
  • A calibration you saved before keeps working, and gets the same treatment at rest.
  • After the device wakes, or the screen turns back on, games no longer see the stick
    where it was before.

Joe's Calibrage

  • Calibrate now asks only for the range: roll the stick around the edge, then
press A to save. The centering step is gone, because your device re-centers the
    stick every time it starts.
  • Test Stick shows what games see, using Leaf's mapping. With no profile saved, it
shows Leaf's default and labels it default.

Translations

  • 中文 now covers Hide Game, Hidden Games, Delete Game, and Force Off
    Hold
    , by AlexL
    (Jawaka #226).
The new delete messages from this beta are still in English.
  • Русский reads more naturally throughout, thanks to
    LVD14
    (Jawaka #227).
For example, Automatic now fits both places it appears, and the force-off hint
no longer sounds like the normal shutdown that saves your game.

Included from beta.2

Hide a game

Press X (Options) on a game in Games, Favorites, or Recents and
choose Hide Game. The game disappears right away from its system's list, the system
counts, Search, Favorites, Recents, and the Game Switcher. Nothing is
deleted: its file, saves, states, artwork, and per-game settings stay as they were.

  • To bring it back, open Settings > Games > Hidden Games, pick the game, and press
    A.
  • Hiding works per card. A copy of the same game on your other SD card stays visible.
  • If you go back to beta.1 or v0.12.1, your hidden games show up again. They are hidden
again when you return to this beta.

Delete a game

beta.2 added Options > Delete Game. This beta changes how it works; see Delete
Game, simplified
above. A delete still waits for a library scan to finish, and on a
read-only card Leaf offers the SD card repair, as it does elsewhere.

Resume Game on Boot with Hardcore on

In beta.1, Resume Game on Boot refused whenever RetroArch's Hardcore setting
was on. RetroArch turns that setting on by default, so it refused for most players,
even without a RetroAchievements account. Now Leaf opens the game and lets RetroArch
decide. Your game resumes unless RetroAchievements is on with Hardcore, which doesn't
allow loading a save. Then Leaf opens the launcher and tells you, and your save stays
as it was.

Thanks to AlexL for reporting this one.

Tiếng Việt and Русский

Settings > System > Language now offers Tiếng Việt and Русский.

  • Tiếng Việt is by Nhân Nhanh Nhẩu from our Discord
    (Jawaka #211).
  • Русский is by Atanvaron, with corrections from
    LVD14
    (Jawaka #213,
    #217).
  • A few fonts can't draw these letters. While Vietnamese is on, Fredoka shows as
Nunito. While Russian is on, Space Grotesk, Lexend, Baloo 2, and
Fredoka do. The Font row names the font you actually see, and your own choice
comes back when you change the language.

Smaller changes

  • 中文 now covers Save Before Power Off and Resume Game on Boot, checked by
    AlexL (Jawaka #214).
  • An imported game whose name repeated its own title after a dash now shows the title
    once.
  • Translated Color Temperature values in Settings > Display & Sound are no
    longer cut off.

Tester focus

  • Delete Game: use copies of games you can spare. Try a multi-disc PlayStation
game, a .cue game with several tracks, a Dreamcast .gdi, and a game on the
second card. Check that what disappears matches the Files list, that your saves
and states stay, and that a deleted multi-disc game doesn't come back after a
library scan. Tell us at once if anything not on the list was removed.
  • Stick at rest: let go of the stick in RetroArch games and standalone emulators,
and again after sleep. Tell us if anything still drifts, or if the stick no longer
reaches its full range. Try it both with your old calibration and after
    recalibrating in Joe's Calibrage.
  • MENU after sleep: in DSperate or another standalone emulator, use the stick,
sleep and wake the device, then tap MENU.
  • Chinese and Russian: go through the hide and delete screens in Chinese, and the
settings in Russian. Force Off Hold is much longer in Russian, so check how it
    looks.
  • From beta.1 and beta.2: Hide Game, Save Before Power Off on PlayStation,
Saturn, and Dreamcast, and Resume Game on Boot.

Expected, not faults: Hide Game, Hidden Games, and the delete screens are in
English in every language apart from Chinese, and in Chinese the new delete messages
are still English. The Save Before Power Off and Resume Game on Boot messages
are translated only in Chinese and Russian. Discs you hid in beta.2 are listed in
Hidden Games by file name. Extra files beside a disc image stay after Delete
Game
. Hidden games show up again if you go back to beta.1 or v0.12.1.

This beta includes everything in stable Leaf v0.12.1 and v0.13.0-beta.1 through beta.2.
