What's new in v0.13.0-beta.2
This beta lets you hide games you don't want to see and delete games from your SD card
without a computer. Multi-disc games get a Manage Discs page, where you can hide or
delete a single disc. Leaf now speaks Vietnamese and Russian, and Resume Game on
Boot no longer refuses just because RetroArch's Hardcore setting is on. Everything
from beta.1 is included.
Added in beta.2
Hide a game
Press X (Options) on a game in Games, Favorites, or Recents and
choose Hide Game. The game disappears right away from its system's list, the system
counts, Search, Favorites, Recents, and the Game Switcher. Nothing is
deleted: its file, saves, states, artwork, and per-game settings stay as they were.
- To bring it back, open Settings > Games > Hidden Games, pick the game, and press
A. - Hiding works per card. A copy of the same game on your other SD card stays visible.
- If you go back to beta.1 or v0.12.1, your hidden games show up again. They are hidden
again when you return to this beta.
Manage Discs
A game that uses an .m3u playlist gets Options > Manage Discs, which lists its
discs. Press A to hide or unhide a disc, and Y to show the hidden ones. Hiding a
disc doesn't change the playlist, so swapping discs during a game works as before.
Hidden discs also appear in Hidden Games, under their game's name.
Delete a game
Options > Delete Game removes a game's files from the SD card. Before anything is
removed, Leaf shows you which card the game is on, how many discs and files it has, and
about how much space you get back. Press X to see every file and whether it will
be deleted or kept. Cancel is selected first; choose Delete Game to go ahead.
- There is no undo and no Trash. Deleted files are gone.
- Your saves, states, memory cards, and artwork are kept. So are files that another
game in your library also uses. - A disc game goes as a whole: its
.cueand tracks, or its.m3uand every disc,
hidden discs included. Extra files beside a disc image, such as.subor.sbi,
stay, and folders are never removed. - The game's favorite, its Recents entry, and its per-game settings go with it, and
don't come back if you copy the game onto the card again. - Delete Game is offered for cartridge and handheld systems, PlayStation, Sega CD,
and PC-98. It isn't offered for arcade, Saturn, Dreamcast, PC Engine, DOS, Amiga,
ports, or EasyRPG, whose files can point at each other in ways Leaf can't check yet.
Hide Game works for every system. - If another game starts from the same file, Leaf won't delete it and suggests Hide
Game instead. On a read-only card, Leaf offers the SD card repair, as it does
elsewhere.
Delete one disc
On Manage Discs, press X to delete a single disc. Leaf removes that disc's files
and its line in the playlist, and leaves the rest of the playlist as it was. Deleting
the last disc, counting hidden ones, deletes the whole game, and the preview says so
before you confirm.
Resume Game on Boot with Hardcore on
In beta.1, Resume Game on Boot refused whenever RetroArch's Hardcore setting
was on. RetroArch turns that setting on by default, so it refused for most players,
even without a RetroAchievements account. Now Leaf opens the game and lets RetroArch
decide. Your game resumes unless RetroAchievements is on with Hardcore, which doesn't
allow loading a save. Then Leaf opens the launcher and tells you, and your save stays
as it was.
Thanks to AlexL for reporting this one.
Tiếng Việt and Русский
Settings > System > Language now offers Tiếng Việt and Русский.
- Tiếng Việt is by Nhân Nhanh Nhẩu from our Discord
(Jawaka #211). - Русский is by Atanvaron, with corrections from
LVD14
(Jawaka #213,
#217). - A few fonts can't draw these letters. While Vietnamese is on, Fredoka shows as
Nunito. While Russian is on, Space Grotesk, Lexend, Baloo 2, and
Fredoka do. The Font row names the font you actually see, and your own choice
comes back when you change the language.
Smaller changes
- 中文 now covers Save Before Power Off and Resume Game on Boot, checked by
AlexL (Jawaka #214). - An imported game whose name repeated its own title after a dash now shows the title
once. - Translated Color Temperature values in Settings > Display & Sound are no
longer cut off.
Included from beta.1
Save your game when you power off
Turn on Settings > Games > Save Before Power Off. It is off by default. When you
then hold the power button to shut down during a RetroArch game, Leaf shows
Preparing to save and asks you to let go of the button. Once you do, it saves the
game to its quick-save slot and powers off. You pick it up from Recents or the
Game Switcher, or have Leaf open it for you at the next start with Resume Game
on Boot.
- Let go when the prompt appears. The save only starts after you release, and if you
keep holding, Leaf shuts down without saving. - If the save can't be made, Leaf shuts down as it always has and leaves your previous
quick save as it was. - Standalone emulators, apps, and paks shut down without saving, as before. So do
MENU > Power Off and restarts.
Resume Game on Boot
Settings > Games > Resume Game on Boot is off by default and needs Save Before
Power Off. After a power-off save, the next time you turn the device on, Leaf opens
the game and loads it where you left off, with a Resuming your game banner.
- Hold B while Leaf starts to go to the launcher instead. The save stays, so you
can still open it from Recents or the Game Switcher. - If the save can't be loaded, for example because you changed the game's core, its SD
card is missing, or RetroAchievements Hardcore mode refuses it, Leaf opens the
launcher and tells you. Open the game from Recents or the Game Switcher to try
the save again. - Leaf tries once per power off. Games on either SD card work, even when the device
swaps the two cards' places between boots. - With RAOfflineProxy on, the resume waits a few seconds for it to start and then
plays through it.
Force Off Hold
Whatever is running, the handheld's power chip cuts power once you hold the power
button long enough. That was 6 seconds, which left Leaf too little time to finish a
clean shutdown if you kept holding. Leaf now sets it to 10 seconds, and you can
choose 6, 8, 10, or 12 sec in Settings > System > Force Off Hold.
A normal shutdown is still a 2 second hold. If the device ever freezes, hold the power
button for the full Force Off Hold time. Until Leaf has started, and in the stock
firmware, the hold stays at 6 seconds.
Your battery in the in-game menu
Press MENU during a RetroArch game and the in-game menu now shows the status bar:
battery, clock, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and volume. It follows your Settings > Appearance >
Status Bar choices, so the battery shows as Icon, Percent, Both, or not at
all. The Performance and Shader pages show it too. The volume shown is the
current level, even after you change it mid-game. The Game Switcher stays without a
bar.
Long titles at the top of a screen, such as a game's name in the in-game menu, now end
in "..." instead of cutting a letter in half.
Battery Level lighting
Set Settings > Lighting > Mode to Battery Level and the light ring's color
follows your battery, in games as well as in the launcher:
- Blue - 81 to 100%
- Green - 61 to 80%
- Orange - 41 to 60%
- Red - 21 to 40%
- Flashing red - 20% and below
The ring changes within about 5 seconds of the charge reaching a new band, and right
away when the device wakes from sleep. Charging uses the same colors. In this mode
Color reads Automatic and Speed reads Fixed. Brightness still works.
Your chosen color isn't lost: switch back to Static or any other mode and it
returns.
Thanks to shaheedtait-cloud for asking for
this one.
The Static and Off modes now update the ring only when something changes,
instead of every second, so they cost next to nothing while the device sits idle.
Tester focus
- Hide Game: hide games from Games, Favorites, and Recents. Check they
are gone from Search, the Game Switcher, and the system counts, and that
Hidden Games brings them back. - Manage Discs: hide a disc of a multi-disc PlayStation game, then swap discs
during play. - Delete Game: use copies of games you can spare. Check that what disappears
matches the preview's file list, including a game on the second card and one that
shares files with another game. Tell us at once if anything you expected to keep was
removed. - Delete one disc: delete a middle disc and then the last disc of a multi-disc
game. After the middle one, check the game still starts and swaps discs. - Vietnamese and Russian: go through every screen and tell us where text runs off
or reads wrong. - Resume Game on Boot: with Hardcore on in RetroArch but no RetroAchievements
account, your game should now resume. With RetroAchievements and Hardcore on, Leaf
should open the launcher and tell you. - From beta.1: Save Before Power Off on PlayStation, Saturn, and Dreamcast,
saving in a game and then holding the power button straight away, and Battery
Level lighting over a long session.
Expected, not faults: Hide Game, Manage Discs, and the delete screens are in
English in every language for now, and so are the Save Before Power Off and
Resume Game on Boot messages, apart from Chinese. Hidden games show up again if you
go back to beta.1 or v0.12.1. Extra files beside a disc image stay after Delete
Game. A resume through RAOfflineProxy takes a few seconds longer than one without
it. Before Leaf has started, the force-off hold is still 6 seconds.
This beta includes everything in stable Leaf v0.12.1 and v0.13.0-beta.1.
