What's new in v0.12.0-beta.5

This beta makes shutting down safer for your SD cards, fixes low-battery shutdown, and
lets a theme share one set of icons between Grid and Cover Flow.

Safer shutdown

Leaf now makes sure your SD cards are closed before the handheld powers off. If
something is still busy when you shut down, such as an app that has not stopped, a
recording still being converted, or a card that will not close, shutdown pauses on a
screen that says what it is waiting for, and retries by itself.

• Tap the power button to retry straight away.
• Hold it for 2 seconds to go ahead anyway. For a card that will not close, this
  forces the power-off and still protects the card as far as it can.

After any paused shutdown, the next boot gives the card a quick read-only check, so a
shutdown that had to wait or be forced does not leave damage behind unnoticed. When the
card is fine you will not see anything.

Low-battery shutdown works

When the battery ran low, Leaf's shutdown never actually happened: the handheld kept
running until the battery cut the power, with both cards still open. A low battery now
shuts down properly, through the same safe shutdown as the power button.

Exit to Stock leaves Leaf's audio behind

Leaving Leaf for the stock system kept Leaf's audio service running, so stock LoongOS
started with Leaf's audio setup instead of its own. Leaf now stops it on the way out.

Themes can share icons between views

A theme can put its icons in one icons/ folder instead of copying the same pictures
into both grid/icons/ and coverflow/icons/. Each view still uses its own folder
first, so a theme can share most icons and give one view a different picture for a few
systems. Copies counted twice against the theme store's size limit, so sharing can
roughly halve a theme's download. See Themes.

Themes that use the shared folder need this beta or newer: beta.4 and earlier refuse to
install them.

Smaller fixes

• The SSH Server app no longer deletes a system file when its service stops.

Testing notes

• Shutdown: shut down normally a few times, and reboot a few times, and tell us if
  a pause screen ever appears when nothing should be busy.
• Paused shutdown: shut down while a recording is still converting, and try both
  the tap to retry and the 2 second hold.
• Low battery: if you can, let the battery run down with Leaf running and check it
  shuts down by itself rather than just dying.
• Exit to Stock: exit to stock and check sound works normally there.
• Theme creators: try moving shared icons into icons/ and check both views.

Known issue: if "Your SD card is protected" keeps asking you to restart and check, plug
your device into power first, then open Settings > System > SD Cards and choose
Repair SD card. Restart and check alone cannot fix a card that needs repair.

Expected, not faults: a pause screen when an app or a recording conversion really is
still running. A quick card check on the boot after a paused shutdown. Beta.4
and older refusing a theme that uses the shared icons/ folder.

This beta includes everything in stable Leaf v0.11.0 and v0.12.0-beta.1 through beta.4.

Already running a compatible Leaf install? Open System Update, set Update Channel
to Beta, then check for and install the update.

For a fresh install, extract leaf-mlp1-sd-v0.12.0-beta.5.zip to the root of a FAT32
or ext4 SD card and boot with it inserted. Your games, saves, and states are left alone.
