What's new in v0.12.0-beta.3
This beta reorganizes Settings, adds French and Mexican Spanish, and changes the
language switch so it asks first and applies without restarting the launcher. The Home
Tabs editor gets switches and stops rearranging itself when you turn a tab off.
Settings is reorganized
Settings had grown to ten sections, and two of its lists were long enough to scroll.
The things that belong together now sit together, and no section page scrolls.
- Home Screen is new. It holds Home Layout, Grid Size, System Icons,
Tab Switching, Startup Tab, and Home Tabs. Hiding a tab is two levels
deep now instead of three. - Appearance keeps the look of the interface itself: Color Scheme,
Colors, Theme, Font, Font Size, List Style, and Status Bar.
The old Layout page is gone, split between these two. - Network is now Wi-Fi, sitting next to Bluetooth, so the two radios are
named for what they are. - Game Art is now Games, and has taken on Game Performance, Reset
RetroArch Config, and Accounts. - General is now System: Language, Time Zone, Auto Sleep, Boot
Splash, SD Cards, and Services. Services used to be its own section and is
a row here, still shown only when something is installed. - Controls & Feedback is now Hotkeys & Rumble, and the In-game Shortcuts
page inside it is now Hotkeys.
Nothing you have set changes. Every setting keeps its value; only where you find it
moved. System Update and About are where they were, on the System page's other
tabs.
Grid view packs in more
Settings > Home Screen > Grid Size now goes up to 8 x 6, adding 5 x 3,
5 x 4, 6 x 4, 6 x 5 and 8 x 6 to the sizes that were there before.
Grid tiles are artwork rather than text, so the tighter sizes stay readable, and at
6 x 4 most libraries fit on one screen with nothing to scroll past.
Automatic now means 4 x 3 rather than 3 x 2 when your theme does not ask for a
size of its own. If you had already picked a size by hand, you keep it.
French and Mexican Spanish
Leaf can now draw itself in Français and Español (México), alongside 中文 and
English. Pick one in Settings > System > Language.
Both translations are new and incomplete, so some lines are still English. If you want
to help finish one, or add your own language, come and say so on Discord.
The language switch asks first, and no longer restarts
Choosing a language used to apply it the moment you landed on it, and threw you out of
Settings while the launcher restarted. Now Left and Right browse the list and
nothing happens until you press A, which asks you to confirm. Leaf then swaps the
language in place: you stay on the same page, and the launcher does not restart.
Home Tabs
- The rows are switches, matching the rest of Settings.
- Turning a tab off leaves it where it is. It used to sink to the bottom of the list,
which moved everything else and lost your place. The list now reorders only when you
move something yourself, with X. - A hidden tab can be moved too, so you can put it where you want it before turning it
back on.
Tester focus
- Settings: go through all nine sections and tell us anything you could not find,
or anything that feels like it is in the wrong place. Check that B takes you back
where you expect from Bluetooth, Accounts, Services, and Home Tabs. - Font Size: set it to Extra Large and confirm no Settings page scrolls.
- Language: switch to French or Spanish and back, and check that the page you were
on redraws in the new language without a restart. Untranslated lines staying English
is expected; a line in the previous language is a bug worth reporting. - Home Tabs: turn tabs off and on and confirm the list holds still.
- Grid Size: try the new sizes, and tell us where the tiles stop being easy to
pick out. If you use a theme with its own tile labels, those are drawn at whatever
size you choose and will be the first thing to get hard to read.
Expected, not faults: French and Mexican Spanish are both new and unfinished, so
plenty of lines are still English. Grid Size reads a dash while Home Layout is
anything but Grid, because there is no grid for it to describe. If your theme asks
for a grid size of its own, Automatic still follows the theme rather than the new
4 x 3. Settings sections have moved, so a path someone gave you for an earlier build
may name a section that no longer exists.
This beta includes everything in stable Leaf v0.11.0, v0.12.0-beta.1, and
