What's new in v0.12.0-beta.1

This beta adds Grid View, a new home layout with user themes and a Sample theme to
start from. It also brings system wordmarks, JPEG box art, native PICO-8 through an
optional pak, a refreshed Settings screen, and a new volume and brightness overlay.

Grid View joins the home layouts

Grid View shows your systems as a scrolling grid of rounded tiles, with a games
page of its own: the game list on the left, the cover on the right, the game's
details and synopsis under it, and the system's wordmark at the bottom. Choose it in
Settings > Appearance > Layout > Home Layout, and pick how many tiles fit on a
screen with Grid Size.

The games page shows scraped details (year, rating, genre, players, synopsis). Rescrape
a system to fill them in for games scraped before this build.

User themes live in Themes/<name>/ on your card and dress Grid View with their
own colors, wallpaper, and system tiles. Leaf ships one called Sample. Choose it in
Settings > Appearance > Layout > Theme.

Sample is release-managed: installing a Leaf update replaces the Themes/Sample
folder. To make your own theme, copy Sample under a new name and edit the copy. Themes
with any other name are never touched by an install.

Systems get wordmarks

Every bundled system now has a wordmark on the Grid View games page, drawn in your
theme's text color. You can supply your own:

• Roms/<SYSTEM>/wordmark.png for one system, or
  Themes/<theme>/grid/wordmarks/<SYSTEM>.png in a theme. Draw it as white shapes on a
  transparent background; Leaf tints it to match the theme.
• Name it wordmark.color.png (or <SYSTEM>.color.png in a theme) for a full-color
  logo that Leaf draws as-is, without tinting.
• Keep images at most 1024 pixels on each side. Larger files are skipped.

Paks can now provide a wordmark and a Grid tile for the system they add, which the
ScummVM and PICO-8 paks will use in a future Pak Rat update. On Grid tiles, your chosen
System Icons pack still takes priority over pak art for systems Leaf already has
icons for.

Box art can be JPEG

Box art can now be .jpg or .jpeg as well as .png, in Images/<SYSTEM>/ or
Roms/<SYSTEM>/Imgs/. If a game has both, PNG wins. Central Scrutinizer's Replace
Art accepts JPEG too and removes the game's previous art in any format.

A cover that cannot be decoded now shows the system placeholder instead of staying
blank, and loads on its own once you replace the file, without a rescan.

Play PICO-8 natively through Pak Rat

Leaf 0.12.0 supports the optional PICO-8 for Leaf pak. With your own purchased copy
of PICO-8 (the Raspberry Pi build's pico8_64 and pico8.dat in BIOS/PICO8/), you can
browse Splore from Apps or choose PICO-8 (native) from a PICO-8 game's Core
option. FAKE-08 stays the default and the fallback.

Favorites you mark in Splore are imported into your Leaf library when you exit. Press
MENU twice to return to Leaf; if PICO-8 is frozen, the second confirmation force
closes it. See the pak's README for details.

Settings and the volume overlay are cleaner

• On and off settings are drawn as switches, and the Brightness and Volume sliders sit
  on their own row's line, so Display & Sound matches the spacing of other pages.
• Settings, Actions, and Info show a compact activity strip for scraping and library
  scans.
• Settings pages scroll within their space, so large fonts and footer hints no longer
  overlap rows, and a game count no longer carries over from the library.
• The volume and brightness overlay is a small pill in the top left with a level bar.

Also improved

• Pak Rat's details screen offers Update when an installed app has one, instead of
  opening the old version.
• Central Scrutinizer uploads to a second SD card no longer fail, and its Chinese
  translation now covers the whole web and device interface.
• Pak Rat shows an author and description for the bundled apps.
• The Saturn BIOS picker refuses a folder path that is too long instead of opening a
  truncated one.

Tester focus

• Grid View: browse your systems and games lists at each Grid Size, including large
  libraries. Navigation should stay smooth. Try themes: Sample, none, and a copy of
  Sample with your own changes.
• Wordmarks: check that each system with games shows the right wordmark. Try a
  wordmark.png and a wordmark.color.png in a ROM folder.
• JPEG art: add .jpg covers, replace art in Central Scrutinizer (PNG to JPEG and
  back), then rescan and check the games list.
• Native PICO-8: if you own PICO-8, install the pak, browse Splore, import favorites,
  and switch a game between FAKE-08 and native.
• Settings: check pages at the largest font size with hints on and off, and watch
  the activity strip during a scrape.
• Updating: install over an existing card and confirm your own themes, games, saves,
  and settings are untouched.

Expected, not faults: Grid View's first visit after updating builds new thumbnails, so
tiles can take a moment to appear once. A system without a wordmark image shows its
name as text, which currently includes ScummVM and PICO-8. Square logos such as
Game & Watch appear smaller than wide ones because the wordmark area has a fixed
height. Changes you made inside Themes/Sample are replaced by this install.

This beta includes everything in stable Leaf v0.11.0.

Already running a compatible Leaf install? Open System Update, set Update Channel
to Beta, then check for and install the update.

For a fresh install, extract leaf-mlp1-sd-v0.12.0-beta.1.zip to the root of a FAT32
or ext4 SD card and boot with it inserted. Your games, saves, and states are left alone.
