TypeType for Android 1.8.0
TypeType for Android 1.8.0 focuses on faster search, more reliable playback recovery, richer comments, and subscription notifications. It also brings the 1.8.0 beta line to a stable release.
Search and discovery
- Search directly with YouTube, BiliBili, or NicoNico from the search screen.
- Keep the selected service synchronized with the account default and use it for search, suggestions, and filters.
- Show filters only after a search has been submitted.
- Restore recent searches with support for clearing the full history.
- Show the video release date in the player details and publication dates on related videos.
- Fix duplicated search rows and incorrect channel counts in search results.
Playback and seeking
- Add storyboard previews while seeking.
- Add progressive seeking with adjustable hold-to-seek speed.
- Open same-video timestamp links directly in the TypeType player.
- Improve seekbar behavior in portrait, landscape, and fullscreen.
- Keep the player surface stable during gestures, backgrounding, and layout transitions.
- Improve SABR recovery after seek timeouts, stalled segments, and format downgrades.
- Trigger autoplay when the end of a stream is missed.
Comments
- Render safe rich-text markup, links, line breaks, entities, and timestamps in comments.
- Collapse long comments behind Read more and allow them to be collapsed again.
- Keep timestamps interactive and seek within the current video.
Notifications
- Add subscription notifications with UnifiedPush.
- Add a channel notification bell and a dedicated push notification settings screen.
- Request notification permission when enabling notifications from a channel.
- Reconcile push registration at startup when the endpoint or server registration is missing.
- Add a battery optimization hint for reliable background delivery.
Performance and reliability
- Add thumbnail disk caching and smoother thumbnail crossfading.
- Select lightweight storyboard variants for seek previews.
- Preserve already loaded subscription pages during a refresh instead of forcing the list back to the top.
- Improve playback recovery without losing the current position or live state.
Compatibility and validation
- Keep Android 6.0 through Android 17 support, API 23 through API 37.
- Keep core behavior independent from Google Play Services.
- Preserve the server-first architecture for extraction, playback sessions, and notifications.
- The release passed unit tests, lint, debug and release builds, and instrumented search UI checks.

Installing
Download the APK attached below. It is built from the tagged source, signed by the release workflow, checked for 16 KiB page alignment, and verified against the Gradle application version. A SHA-256 checksum is provided alongside it.
The stable and beta F-Droid channels use the same application identity. Switching channels updates the existing installation instead of installing a second TypeType application.
If something does not work correctly, please open an issue in the TypeType-Android repository.
