Hello World 👋
This is the first official release of the TRMNL Home Assistant Weather Station ..tadaa.. still a bit rough around the edges, but the most important part was setting a goal and seeing it through.
I hope anyone who stumbles across this finds it as exciting and helpful as I would have when I first received my TRMNL. It took me many hours to get into Home Assistant integrations, figure out a solid architecture and UX for sending sensor data to TRMNL, and navigate rate limits, Liquid templating, and HA internals.
I truly enjoy pushing myself into uncharted waters and this was no exception. Now go ahead and enjoy your TRMNL as a weather station and CO₂ indicator!
Next steps
My plan is to submit this as an official HACS integration to make installation easy for everyone. I’ll also be publishing the setup recipe on TRMNL and submitting a brand entry so we get a proper icon in the Home Assistant integrations menu. Meanwhile, if I can spare some time, I do plan to cleanup the codebase and add some tests.
That means… lots of reviews ahead, so it might take a little time.
For the tinkerers out there, this version should get you started. For everyone else, just hang tight a bit longer 🙂
