Updating from v1.4.0
- Already on v1.4.0? You can update to v1.4.1 in place using the built-in OTA updater on the device. No reflash and no data wipe needed.
- New to GammaOS, or on an older build? Download the v1.4.1 package below and install as usual (this is a clean flash).
Which build should I choose?
This release ships two builds. Both run GammaOS Nano as standard by default - the difference is what sits underneath. You can switch to the native Android interface at any time from Quick Menu > Power > Boot Android.
- Core (recommended) - GammaOS Nano with no Google apps and a super lightweight Android underneath. This is the best build for the device: fast, lean and built for boot-to-play. Choose this unless you specifically need Google services.
- Full - also boots into GammaOS Nano by default, but underneath it carries the full Android build (full Android UI and Google apps: Play Store, Google sign-in), which you reach via Quick Menu > Power > Boot Android. It is much heavier and slower. The first time you boot into Android, the controls are unresponsive for the first few minutes, and Google Play Services then takes ages to finish updating - around half an hour - during which it completely consumes the CPU. Expect the device to get hot and slow on first boot - this is normal for the Full build; let it settle and it will calm down.
This is a whole new GammaOS
v1.4 is not an incremental update to the previous RG DS release. GammaOS Nano is not a launcher, it is a whole micro-OS built on top of Android. It grabs the panel the instant you power on and paints a full console-style home (the RG DS boots into the DSi System Menu theme by default), but underneath it is deeply integrated with the low-level Android system and the device hardware: DRM-direct rendering straight to the panel, an early-boot audio engine that sounds before the rest of the system is even up, native power and sleep management, and direct control of the two screens. There is no heavy Android launcher loading in the background, no bloat, and no waiting. It boots straight to a console-style experience that is fast, lean and built for a controller first.
Known Issues
- The Core build ships with NO Google Services. This is a deliberate design choice for maximum performance, battery life and a clean boot-to-play experience. If you need the Play Store or Google sign-in, use the Full build instead (see above), and be aware it is heavier and slower.
- Full build first boot: the first time you switch into Android (Quick Menu > Power > Boot Android), the controls are unresponsive for the first few minutes, and Google Play Services then takes ages to update - around half an hour - during which the device runs hot and slow. This is expected - leave it to settle.
- On a cold boot the bottom screen may occasionally come up with wrong colors or wrong positioning. This is caused by the device bootloader (uboot) not handling two screens consistently at power-on. It is completely harmless. Once the device is fully booted, just turn the bottom screen off and back on again and it will correct itself.
- If you ever used Rocknix (or another mainline distribution), this will affect your ability to restart or turn on the device. You must unplug and replug the battery to fix this issue. This happens if you ever used Rocknix on an SD card or flashed to eMMC at all.
- DraStic RetroAchievements currently supports Softcore mode only. Hardcore mode is pending approval from the RetroAchievements team, which can take up to around 6 months if they agree to it.
- Performance improvements are mainly for NDS/DraStic. Don't expect 3DS titles to run any better.

GammaOS Nano gives you three complete home themes (the RG DS boots into the DSi System Menu theme by default, and you can switch to PS3 XMB or Minima at any time), a much-improved built-in DraStic-nano DS player with RetroAchievements (Softcore) and Quick Resume, the dual-screen RG DS Control Center for single-screen apps, custom and looping video wallpapers (including separate wallpapers per screen), an in-game overlay on a power-button hold, reworked sleep and wake, and self-contained music, video and photo players, a controller-first web browser, IPTV and Internet Radio, system-wide Network Shares (SMB/NFS/WebDAV/FTP), a global search, and the PSP Go slide clock. Both builds run GammaOS Nano by default; switch to native Android any time from Quick Menu > Power > Boot Android.

Before You Download
This release ships as two builds, each a single split archive. Choose Core (recommended) or Full, and download every part of that archive.
The firmware ships as two split archives (3 parts each).

Extract
Extract all parts of your chosen build together (extract the .001 while the other parts are in the same folder), using the password from Patreon. You will get a single image file.
Install
Installation is the same process as before. Full installation steps are available here:

Note: Installing will wipe all data. Back up your device first.
Remove any microSD card before flashing to avoid issues.
If you are already on v1.4.0, you do not need to reflash - use the on-device OTA updater instead.
