Downloads

  • Windows: KingKong-v2.1.0-windows-x64.zip
  • Linux and Steam Deck: KingKong-linux-x86_64.AppImage
  • Already playing? Update from inside the launcher. Your saves, settings and game files are kept.

No game files are included: you need your own copy of the Xbox 360 game. Getting started is in the README.

Added

  • Muzzle flash light: every shot lights what is around it for a moment: walls, the ground, enemies, your hands and gun. On in Remastered (Graphics > Effects).
  • Skin shading: light softens and warms on skin, with a touch of red where light meets shadow, as light scattered under skin looks. On in Remastered (Graphics > Effects).
  • Depth of field on your hands and gun: they go slightly soft while the world stays sharp. Off by default (Graphics > Effects).
  • Parallax occlusion: rock, stone and wood show depth when you look across them. Off by default (Graphics > Effects).
  • Reset achievements: the Achievements page has a Reset achievements button that locks every achievement again, so a new playthrough can earn them all again. It asks first, and your saves stay as they are.

Fixed

  • The Log soft lock above 60 FPS: after Kong throws the log, Jack could die out of sight at the bottom of the ravine and the chapter started again from the log, over and over. He now lands as he does at 30 FPS, at any frame rate.
  • Left Control could not be bound: Left and Right Control, Shift and Alt can now be bound to any action, on their own.
  • Mouse and keyboard input went past the frame rate cap (issue #58): every mouse movement and key press showed the last frame again, so overlays counted frames above your cap and motion could look uneven. Input now waits for the game's next frame while the game is drawing.

Changed

  • Refresh rate: Fullscreen now always runs at your screen's highest refresh rate at the chosen resolution, so the Refresh rate setting is gone; only the Frame rate is yours to choose. If Windows keeps your screen at a lower rate than it can run (for example 60 Hz on a 165 Hz screen), the Display page and the setup say so and open the Windows display settings where you change it. The log now records your screen's refresh rate.
