This release is similar to Tabular Editor v. 2.1 in terms of functionality. However, the project has been compiled against the new Analysis Services v. 14.0.0.0 libraries. These are the libraries used by the SQL Server vNext CTP 1.1 preview, which include the new Compatibility Level 1400 mode, that has a bunch of exciting new features.
To use this release of Tabular Editor, you must have the updated AS libraries available. You can check this under C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\assembly\GAC_MSIL\Microsoft.AnalysisServices.Tabular where you should find a subfolder beginning with v4.0_14.0.0.0. These libraries will normally be available as part of the installation for the preview of SSDT for SQL Server vNext or the SQL Server itself.
New features in Tabular Editor for this release:
- Support for DetailRowsExpressions (both on measures and tables) in the property grid
- Support for HideMembers on hierarchies in the property grid
- Support for Table-Level security
- (Read-only) support for the new MPartitionSource
A note regarding the last bullet: Tabular Editor does not yet support editing of partition sources or data sources in general. This is not currently a prioritised item on the backlog, as excellent support for these objects already exist in Visual Studio and SSMS.
