Instagram 454.0.0.54.77 is the build to patch now, and most of this release came straight from your reports. Reels get a speed button and a seek bar that stays put in clear mode, holding a post can open it full screen, and the glass tab bar blurs what's behind it far better than it did. The list of fixes below is a long one.

New in this release

  • New Blend post edges switch under Ambient light fades a post's top and bottom into its glow, so the edge doesn't show as a hard line. Asked for in #510.

  • Story rings in the accent color is a new switch under Accent color, off to start. Rings drop Instagram's gradient for your color after a restart. Asked for in #187.

  • Backgrounds in the accent color is another new switch there. Screens, panels, cards and menus take a dark or light shade of your color, and it wins over Pure black dark mode. Asked for in #187 and #8.

  • Accent color now reaches text that gets its blue from a layout, like the Older posts link. Reported in #187.

  • Add the source to saved photos covers videos now and is called Add the source to saved photos and videos. A saved MP4 gets the poster, the post date and the post's link in tags exiftool and most galleries read.

  • Tagging a saved video leaves its picture and sound exactly as they were. A video the save knows nothing about isn't touched.

  • Choose Seen in each chat under Messages puts an eye next to a chat's call buttons. Tap it to hold Seen in just that chat, send it there, or go back to what Read messages without the seen receipt says. Asked for in #13.

  • Picking a Seen choice for a chat doesn't send anything by itself, and the chat keeps its pick after a restart. A chat held that way still gets Mark as read in its long press menu and its preview.

  • Choose Seen in each chat starts off. It needs Lock your messages patched in, which it is by default, since that's how HushGram knows which chat is open.

  • Show categories as a grid, near the top of HushGram settings, turns each category into a tile with its icon, name and a line on what's in it. Tiles sit two across, three on a wide screen. Asked for in #494.

  • Tap a category tile and it opens right below the tiles while any other one folds. It's all still one page, and the grid starts off.

  • Keep playing in the background keeps a video or reel with sound going when you leave Instagram or turn the screen off, with a notification to pause or stop it. It's under Playback and starts off. Refs #497.

  • Hide reels in other languages, under Reels next to Hide reels by caption words, hides reels whose caption is in a language you didn't list under Languages to keep. Also on Home applies it to Home's posts. It starts off. Refs #495.

  • In Languages to keep, type codes or names like en, Hindi, Español, fil, or leave it empty to keep your phone's languages. A reel whose caption is too short to tell, or that the phone can't place, stays.

  • Hide the reply box on stories is a new patch. With its switch on under Stories, the Send message box comes off the bottom of other people's stories, and the like and share buttons stay where they were. Starts off. Asked for in #486.

  • Full screen Reels and Home adds Stories fill the screen under Stories. On a tall phone a story fills the whole screen like on shorter phones, instead of a rounded card that stops above the reply bar. Starts off. Asked for in #436.

  • Speed button on reels adds an icon beside a reel with a short list of speeds, 0.5x to 3x. Keep the reel speed carries your pick to the next reels. Both are under Reels and start off. Asked for in #480.

  • Full screen button on reels adds an icon beside a reel that does what Full screen in its menu does. Turn on Start every reel in clear mode to open every reel that way. Starts off, under Reels. Asked for in #480.

  • Stop Reels scrolling has three new switches under it, so reels opened from a profile, Search and Explore or a song page can still scroll while the Reels tab stays stopped. They start off. Asked for in #508.

  • Always show seek bar in clear mode under Reels keeps the seek bar on screen and draggable in clear mode while everything else stays hidden. Short reels get a bar too. Asked for in #480.

  • Show the Friends tab on Reels adds the Friends tab to the top of the Reels tab on accounts that never got it. What's in it still comes from Instagram, so it can be empty. Asked for in #499.

  • Hold the Friends tab to pick friends lets you hold the Friends tab on Reels, pick friends, and keep only the reels they liked or shared. Asked for in #503.

  • Hide the tab bar on Reels works with Glass tab bar off now, so Instagram's own bar can slide away on Reels too after the wait you pick, and the reel takes its room. Asked for in #343.

  • Long press a post for full screen under Feed opens a photo or video on black when you hold it, with a slider on videos. Starts off. Asked for in #505.

  • Don't vibrate in clear mode under Reels stops the little buzz Instagram plays when a reel opens in clear mode. With Keep clear mode on you'd feel it on every swipe. It starts off and changes take effect right away. Asked for in #480.

  • Burn-in guard dims stories now too. Leave a story untouched and its progress bar, name and buttons fade until your next tap. Typing a reply keeps them bright. Dim stories too under Reels turns this off. Asked for in #479.

  • Preview chats is a new patch under Messages. Long press a chat and tap Preview to read it without sending Seen, and reply there. It has Mark as read when Read messages without the seen receipt is on. Starts off. Asked for in #477.

  • Phone layout on big screens is a new patch under Layout. On a foldable's inner screen or a tablet it keeps Instagram's phone layout, with the tab bar along the bottom. Restart Instagram after flipping it. Starts off. Asked for in #478.

  • Hide activity bubbles is a new patch. Turn it on under Feed and the little round pictures showing a friend liked, commented on or reshared a post or reel go away. Starts off. Asked for in #475.

  • Don't report Blend visits is a new Ghost mode patch. With its switch on under Messages, opening a Blend from a chat doesn't post the "visited the Blend" line there. Ghost mode turns it on with the others. Starts off. Asked for in #474.

  • Page dots on a pill, Seek bar on feed videos and Seek bar on stories can now look See-through or Frosted glass (Android 12 and up) as well as Solid. The pill no longer covers a carousel's seek bar. Asked for in #471.

  • Speed button on stories is a new patch. Turn it on under Stories for a 1x button by a video story's three dots. Taps step through 1.5x, 2x and back to 1x, and later stories keep that speed. Starts off. Asked for in #469.

  • Read messages without the seen receipt adds Mark as read button in chats under Messages. A check mark next to a chat's call buttons marks it Seen for the other person when you tap it. Starts on. Asked for in #458.

  • Swipe through a chat's reels gets a child switch, Only received reels. With it on, swiping skips the reels you sent and goes through what the other person shared. The reel you tapped still opens. Starts off. Asked for in #460.

  • See who a story mentions gets a child switch, Red story mentions. It draws the mention pill's text in Instagram's red instead of white, so it stands out on bright stories. Starts off. Asked for in #459.

  • See who a story mentions adds Where the mention pill goes. Keep it under the story's name or move it to the top bar as @2 mentions or @2, where its list opens from the bottom of the screen. Asked for in #468.

  • Hide the audio icon on posts is a new patch. Under Feed, it takes the speaker icon off videos in your feed, and tapping a video still turns the sound on or off. It starts off. Asked for in #464.

  • Change the like animation adds Grow the heart. Double tap the same post again within a second and a half and the heart pops up a step bigger, up to 1.75 times. A pause starts it small again. Starts off. Asked for in #461.

  • Clean up Reels gets Light when paused, under Burn-in guard. Pause a reel and the faded buttons come back to full brightness until you play it again or swipe on. The wait then starts over. It starts off. Asked for in #457.

  • HushGram settings adds Black settings page under Settings entry. Cards and dialogs go black, HushGram's name and version sit at the top, and each category is one line with its icon. Starts on. Off brings back the charcoal page. Asked for in #455.

  • Home header text is a new patch. Under Layout, type a few words or pick a picture and it shows at the top of Home where Instagram's logo was. Leave both empty to keep the logo. Asked for in #454.

  • Upload stories at full quality adds Upload quality applies to, so posts and reels can go up at 1080p too, and Video bitrate, which asks for 12 to 50 Mbps. Instagram still re-encodes everything on its servers. Asked for in #37.

  • Start Home on Following adds Mix in Following under Feed. For you shows a page of posts from accounts you follow after each page of its own, until you've seen them all. It starts off. Asked for in #438.

  • Glass in chats is a new patch. Under Messages, one switch gives a chat's top bar frosted glass and puts the back, call and video buttons on round glass circles. It starts off. Asked for in #449.

  • Chat plus menu is a new patch. Under Messages you can take Saved, AI images and Draw off a chat's plus menu, each with its own switch, and move the gallery and microphone buttons into it. All four start off. Asked for in #448.

  • Pick the app icon gets a Custom app icon row under Layout. Pick a picture from your phone, drag and zoom it into the frame, and it's added to your home screen as an icon that opens Instagram. Asked for in #442.

  • HushGram's settings now come in Vietnamese. Asked for in #439.

  • App icon adds two more choices, Instagram's gradient glyph on dark and the old brown and cream camera icon. Themed icons show Instagram's glyph for both, since the camera's solid square would come out as a blank tile. Asked for in #327 and #437.

  • App icon adds Instagram in pink, Instagram's glyph in a deep pink on pale pink. Themed icons show the usual glyph. Asked for in #470.

  • Menu button on Home's header adds a button at the top of Home that opens your viewing history, Ghost mode and HushGram settings. It starts off. Asked for in #437.

  • Seek bar button on feed videos adds a small button on a feed video that shows or hides its seek bar. It starts off. Asked for in #437.

  • Keep stories playing while zooming is a new patch. With its switch on under Stories, a story keeps playing while you pinch to zoom it. Hold it still first and it stays paused. It starts off. Asked for in #382.

  • Skip the ad data reminder is a new patch under Ads and privacy. Instagram's reminder to review how it uses your data for ads stops opening by itself. Your ad choice doesn't change. It starts off. Asked for in #331.

  • Stories priority is a new patch. Type the accounts you care about under Stories, one to a line, and when one has a story you haven't watched it goes first in Home's stories row, in your order. Asked for in #451.

  • Hide reels with few views is a new patch. Under Reels it leaves out reels under a view count you type (1,000 to start) or a like count (10). Instagram hides most view counts now, so likes matter more. Asked for in #444.

  • Hide Suggested for you on follow lists now also takes the suggested people off the Follow requests screen. Your real requests stay. Asked for in #441.

  • Swipe through a chat's reels adds Messages after a reel. When someone wrote after the reel you're on, a banner says so, and a tap takes you back to the chat at that message. Starts off. Asked for in #489.

  • Select text to copy is a new switch under Comments. Comments get a Select text row in their menu, and captions and bios get one too, so you can copy just the part you want. Starts off. Asked for in #492.

  • Notify me of unfollowers sits under Recent unfollowers and needs it on. Once you scroll your own Followers list to the end, a notification names whoever left since last time. It never checks in the background. Starts off. Asked for in #492.

  • Save profile picture adds About this account button, an (i) next to a profile's three dots that opens Instagram's About this account page for it, since Instagram took its own button away. Starts off. Asked for in #492.

  • Ambient light now reaches under the tab bar on the Reels tab, on Instagram's own bar and around a docked glass pill, so the glow doesn't stop at the bar. Asked for in #487.

  • Show a comment GIF's name adds a row to a comment's menu with the name of its GIF or sticker, and a tap on it copies the name. Asked for in #502.

Fixes

  • Ambient light no longer glows around photos and stickers in chats, or in the strip under the comment bar on a reel opened from the feed. Reported in #510.

  • Ambient light's glow now carries on under a post's rounded corners, which showed as dark wedges with Rounded corners on posts on. Reported in #510.

  • The story mentions pill sits right under the name again, not a pill's height below it. Reported in #510.

  • Keep clear mode on no longer brings the top bar back when you swipe to the next reel. Reported in #480.

  • Profile extras button and About this account button no longer look the same side by side. The extras one is a circled arrow now.

  • With Add the source to saved photos and videos on, a saved carousel page links the post it's from instead of a link that doesn't open. A saved story gets no link, since stories have no post page.

  • With Gallery and microphone in the plus menu on, Buttons in the message box says those two are in the plus menu instead of calling them shown or left off. It updates the moment that switch flips.

  • With Name saves by account and post time on, Download file name now says its names only go to saves that don't know who posted or when, and it updates as soon as that switch flips.

  • With Show if a profile follows you off, the greyed Follow label row asks you to turn that on. It used to point at Show it as a chip even when the chip was already on.

  • Five descriptions now say what their settings really do. Locked chats unlock the way Unlock with is set, which can be your own PIN or fingerprint only. Keep a viewing history notes who posted each item.

  • Open links in external browser's description says it keeps Facebook, Messenger and Threads links in the app too, along with Instagram's and ads.

  • The download name and follower descriptions say photos get their usual name only when Name saves by account and post time doesn't rename them, and Follower history only logs with Recent unfollowers on.

  • Settings: Cancelling a switch that asks before it changes now takes the turned-down value back out of storage too. Before, the row went back but the next start used the value you'd said no to.

  • Show it as a chip stays greyed out while Show if a profile follows you is off, and so does the choice of where the chip goes. Neither did anything with the label off, though both looked ready.

  • Profile extras button stays greyed out until Save profile picture, View profile picture or Copy username and bio is on. It used to look ready with all three off, though the button never showed up on profiles that way.

  • Convert to keep the full size says HDR videos stay smaller too, as they always have. Hold to download mentions that Fingers right under it can make the hold three fingers instead of two.

  • The description of Seek bar like DM videos calls Bigger seek bar on reels by its full name now, in every language, so you can find the row it means.

  • Eleven translated descriptions pointed at another row in English or by a name that row doesn't show, like German's „Folge ich“ for the Following tab Instagram calls „Gefolgt“.

  • German, Spanish, Indonesian, Italian, Korean, Portuguese, Turkish, Vietnamese and Chinese descriptions now call each row by its own title.

  • Korean ran two sentences of the folder name help together, and Vietnamese left out that what you typed isn't a place.

  • Korean's message after a restore no longer has grammar slips, and neither does its tip to use 폴더 선택 for a path or an SD card.

  • Traditional Chinese now says 你 everywhere. It switched between 你 and 您 from one row to the next, so the chip on a profile said 你 while the switch that shows it said 您.

  • In a right-to-left language, the settings title, the search hint and the text in HushGram's own dialogs (PIN, Details, story mentions) start on the right by their icon or title, even when the text is English.

  • Patching again without Chat plus menu brings the gallery and microphone back to a chat's message box. With Gallery and microphone in the plus menu on, they used to vanish with no menu and no row to undo it.

  • With Pure black dark mode, the comments sheet turns black as soon as Instagram finishes setting it up, however that set-up ends. Some endings skipped the paint, so the sheet waited for its comments screen to turn it black.

  • Numbers on the sliders, the reel view and like limits, the upload bitrate choices and the story ring sizes are written in Instagram's language now, like the rest of HushGram's settings.

  • With Instagram set to a language of its own, those numbers used to follow the phone's language, so an Arabic phone showed Arabic digits there and nowhere else.

  • Exporting your HushGram settings over an older, longer backup file no longer leaves the old file's end behind it. A few file providers don't empty a file first, so that backup wouldn't import though the export said it worked.

  • A settings export now reads the file back and trims it, and says so if it can't.

  • On Android 9 and 10, TalkBack reads a HushGram slider's value the way the row shows it ("20 reels") instead of a percent of the bar.

  • With Ambient light on, playing a video you sent from your gallery in a chat no longer crashes Instagram. The glow kept getting wrapped in a new layer every frame until memory ran out. Reported in #485.

  • Seek bar on stories sits above a story's bottom row again. Instagram moved the Send message box, like and share into a new row, and the bar ended up drawn over them. Reported in #486.

  • Ambient light in stories now glows under the status bar and the gesture bar too. Instagram's story viewer stops short of both, so the glow ended at its edges and the strips above and below a story stayed black. Reported in #487.

  • With Black settings page on, the bar at the top of the main settings page no longer repeats HushGram's name over the centered header. Once the header scrolls away, or while you search, the bar names the page again.

  • Saved on your profile no longer keeps every profile screen you've looked at in memory for as long as Instagram runs. The bookmark's row held on to the tabs it was keyed on.

  • The settings page no longer waits on an import that's still running to find out whether Undo is on offer.

  • See who a story mentions pauses the story while its list is open. A photo used to move on under it. Close or Back plays it on, and it stays paused while you visit a profile from the list. Reported in #403.

  • Reels auto scroll now moves on right as a reel ends, not after the first second plays again. Instagram leaves that to a server setting, and Keep Reels auto scroll on now turns it on for every account. Reported in #473.

  • Seek bar on feed videos no longer leaves a video stuck after a drag. The video pauses while your finger is on the bar and plays on from where you let go. Reported in #472.

  • With Glass tab bar and Hide the tab bar on Reels, the reel stays put when the pill slides away or comes back. It runs behind the pill with its caption and buttons kept above it. Reported in #466 and #467.

  • See who a story mentions opens its list again after a profile. That works when the next story mentions other people too, and on Instagram 453, where the profile opens over the story. Reported in #403.

  • See-through top bar now reaches behind the status bar. Home's posts scroll on under the clock and the glass covers that strip too, so the blur runs to the top of the screen. Reported in #462.

  • Download button on feed posts now says it needs Download feed videos or Download feed photos. The row stays grey until one of them is on, and nothing explained why. Reported in #465.

  • Turn off HDR brightness boosts now also turns off the fake HDR that Instagram's own AV1 decoder can add to ordinary reels, which could still come out brighter than the rest of the screen. Reported in #85.

  • Logo and titles at the start now moves the Messages title and the Reels tabs too. The Reels tabs sit right after Create, or off the edge when Create is hidden. Reported in #407.

  • With Stop after the chat's reels on, a chat's reels scroll one after another again. A swipe past the last one goes back to the chat, and pulling down no longer loads suggested reels. Reported in #390.

  • Explore without personalization did nothing outside the EU. It now asks for the grid that isn't personalized on every account, though Instagram only promises that grid in the EU. Reported in #311.

  • Rounded corners on Reels rounded the screen's corners instead of the video's when a reel had black bars above and below it. The corners now go on the video and move with it. Reported in #456.

  • Jump to the first message could stop partway up a long chat. On a slow connection it now waits for older messages and taps Instagram's Retry. A clock button by the call buttons opens its menu too. Reported in #453.

  • A jump to a date in a chat now puts that day's first message at the top of the screen with its date above it. It used to land at the bottom, so the jump looked short. Reported in #246.

  • The glass tab bar could stay over a story's reply box until Instagram restarted, when an older story viewer was still hidden in the background. The bar now looks past it. Reported in #450.

  • Some videos showed sharp through the glass bars because Instagram played them on a second kind of video view. Glass, reel blur, ambient light and Turn off HDR brightness boosts now keep every video on the view they can read. Reported in #430.

  • Hide suggested searches on reels and Hide shopping buttons on reels missed a few pills. Searches like "Purple dog booties" and the shop lens buttons now go too. Reported in #332.

  • Back leaves Home as it is now also skips "Tap again to exit" and the feed reload at the top of Home, so one Back leaves from anywhere in the feed. Reported in #54.

  • Recent unfollowers keeps your Followers list once it stays unchanged for a few seconds, so a half-loaded list can't pass for people leaving. A Follower history row logs who left or came back. Sent in by argus2968 in #309.

  • With Keep chats unread here off, a chat you've already read here no longer opens with the New Messages line and jumps up to it. Nothing new is sent. Reported in #186.

  • The Install next to Instagram copy no longer crashes on the language pack screen, and it carries on to Instagram once the pack has downloaded. Sent in by snowyegret23 in #392.

  • Material You in Accent color could crash Instagram at launch when a wallpaper's color happened to match one of Instagram's blues. Reported in #435.

  • Keep a viewing history now records posts on Home and in the post viewer, and the list has its own page: a tab for each kind, a search box, and a tap opens the post or person again. Reported in #228.

  • Profile extras button shows up on profiles again, and Keep a viewing history records the profiles you open. Instagram 453 changed how both read the account. Reported in #234 and #482.

  • The Profile extras button row says it needs Save profile picture, View profile picture or Copy username and bio on, since the button stays hidden without one of them.

  • Hide the caught up card now also takes the "You've seen the latest posts" line off the top of Home. Older posts stays, so Home never ends up empty. Reported in #307.

  • On some phones a tap on a reel's More button or audio square moved the reel instead of opening it. Instagram's seek bar strip covered them and now lets those taps through. Comes with Keep a seek bar on Reels. Reported in #452.

  • A long press on a chat's name opens the menu for Jump to the first message or a date and Export a chat as text again. A plain tap still opens the details

  • Export a chat as text now finds a chat's messages. It used to say there were none. Each message is now read from its own row, so an export holds only that chat

  • Export a chat as text and Jump to the first message now load a long chat all the way back instead of stopping at the newest page. Shared reels and voice messages read as plain words

  • Ask before a call, Ask before a like and Ask before a refresh no longer let some presses through unasked. A long press on a tab or on your profile's menu button got the same fix

  • With Carousel arrows or Page dots on a pill on, the feed no longer stutters past carousel posts, and Instagram no longer freezes. Reported in #425 and #417.

  • The time above a reel's seek bar no longer loses its top half with Run Reels behind the tab bar on

  • Save folder no longer turns a typed path into a folder on internal storage. For an SD card it points you to Choose a folder, and once you've picked one it says Save folder isn't in use

  • A reel opened from the feed or a profile no longer sits between black bands with Hide the comment bar on all reels or Hide the comment bar on reposted reels on. Square reels still fit

  • Tapping a story sticker to edit it again now keeps the font you picked from your phone. With two or more of them, it used to switch to the first one

  • With Pure black dark mode, the Likes list is black all the way down. Its rows stayed dark gray under a black header. A row still shows gray while you press it. Reported in #248

  • With Pure black dark mode, new notifications are black too. Instagram tinted their rows gray in dark mode until you'd seen them, and that could cover half the page. Light mode keeps its blue. Reported in #374

  • Seek bar on stories sits above the Activity, Share and Send row and the comment line on your own story, instead of on top of them. Reported in #490 and #492.

  • Full screen Reels and Home lets Fill the screen use the whole width on a foldable's cover screen or any screen wider than a phone's, where it used to leave empty sides. Asked for in #491.

  • Swipe through a chat's reels shows the reply bar past the first reel again. A reply or reaction quotes the reel on screen, not the one you tapped. Reported in #488.

  • Ambient light lights the screen around story videos that Instagram plays on a SurfaceView. It used to light the picture behind them. Reported in #492.

  • The Saved bookmark on your profile opens your saved posts through Instagram's own link, in any language. Before, it could open settings. Reported in #492.

  • The Blur the bars around Reels summary says the blur only shows where a reel leaves room. The share sheet's button list says Reply to author is on posts and reels, and Download profile card on profiles. From #492.

  • With Gray out stories you've watched on, a story you've watched all the way through keeps its place in the tray after a long watch too, until you pull to refresh or restart. Reported in #377.

  • Mark who doesn't follow you back gives the mark a second line on your Following list, so the Message button can't cut it short. Reported in #351.

  • A saved photo is now the largest size Instagram lists. A bigger size could lose to a smaller one because of how its address looked, and a report names every size listed. Reported in #500.

  • Download as photo on a video story saves the video's first frame when Instagram's picture is smaller and the same shape, so 640x1136 becomes 1080x1920. Reported in #214.

  • About this account button no longer shows an error on Pages. It told the screen it came from an ad, and now says it came from the profile, the way Instagram's own menu does. Reported in #507.

  • Keep Featured off the heart's dot also covers other people's new posts and Instagram's own news, and counts that arrive with your inbox. Likes, comments, follows and follow requests still light the heart. Reported in #189.

  • Turning off Search button on Home's header takes the magnifier away as soon as you close settings, not at the next restart. The header's other added buttons do the same. Reported in #492.

Other changes

  • Ambient light works the phone less. It waits for a scrolling list to stop before reading a picture, and a still photo gets read less and less often. Reported in #510.

  • The switches that work the phone hardest now say they can slow down older phones. Asked for in #510.

  • Start reels with sound covers the Reels tab as well as a reel you open from a post on Home. Home is still muted again when you leave. Reported in #504.

  • Glass tab bar blurs less to start with, so what passes under the pill shows as soft shapes instead of a flat dark tint. Blur strength starts at 8 dp now, and a value you already set stays. Reported in #289.

  • With Liquid glass look on, the bubble on your tab springs into place when you switch tabs. Asked for in #289.

  • Mark as read button in chats shows under Messages only when Lock your messages is patched in too, since the check mark finds the open chat through it.

  • HushGram now patches Instagram 454.0.0.54.77 instead of 453.0.0.57.79. Get APKMirror's (arm64-v8a) (480dpi) (Android 9.0+) bundle, build 386014758. Its armeabi-v7a (386014757), x86 (386014759) and x86_64 (386014760) builds are declared too, and the other arm64 density builds patch cleanly.

  • HushGram now builds on Morphe patcher 2.3.0, so patching needs Morphe Manager 2.5.0 or newer. On a computer, use morphe-desktop 2.1.0 or newer.

  • Hide the Map bubble is a new switch under Messages. It takes only the Map bubble out of the row of notes, and your notes stay. It starts off. Asked for in #432.

  • Glass tab bar has a Refraction intensity slider for how hard the liquid pill bends what's behind its edge, and a preview that changes as you drag. The opacity slider is now Tint intensity. Asked for in #391.

  • The Glass tab bar preview now draws its glass on black in the dark theme and on white in the light theme, like the real bar. It used to draw it on black in both. Follows #391.

  • Show and reorder tabs works with a screen reader. Each tab's handle offers Move up and Move down, and TalkBack tells you where the tab landed. The first tab isn't offered Move up, nor the last Move down. Follows #207.

  • A greyed-out slider now says which switch to turn on, in place of a value it can't change, the way the greyed-out choice rows already do.

  • The line under a greyed-out setting is easier to read. It faded as much as the title did, and it's the line that tells you what to turn on first.

  • Report a problem no longer leaves a stray question mark when it has to shorten a very long phone name with emoji in it.

  • On a phone with no browser, Report a problem, Source code and issues and Support HushGram say so and then show their address in a second toast. With both in one toast, the end of the address got cut off.

  • VP9 and AV1 reels whose only sound in the manifest is xHE-AAC now save at full quality. The join couldn't read the post's plain video file, where their sound comes from, so they fell back to the 720p copy. Refs #496.

  • At the best download quality, a 60fps video now beats a 30fps one of the same size, even in another format. Reported in #348.

  • Import settings lets you pick any file. A settings file from a chat or a download often carries some other type, and the picker used to grey it out. A file that isn't a settings file is still refused.

  • In Morphe Manager's patch list, Control taps and volume on Reels now sits under Playback next to its switches, and Hide rows in Instagram's settings under Settings, so no group runs past 16 patches.

  • The chat preview bubble, the story mentions sheet and its Close button use the same corners as the rest of HushGram. The friendship chip and the carousel arrows aren't round pills anymore.

  • In a settings dialog, the picked choice keeps its tint inside the panel's corners, and pressing a choice that isn't picked shows the press. It didn't show at all before.

  • The bar that shows up after you flip a switch that needs a restart now looks like something to tap, with a restart icon and a blue outline.

  • Empty text fields show their placeholder in a softer color than saved text, so it doesn't read as something you typed. Home header text now says Your words until you type.

  • Each row on the Layout page has an icon that fits it. Import HushGram settings shows a download arrow, and Undo settings import and Viewing history show the history clock.

  • Version in About puts the build identity on its own line in a fixed-width font, so it's easier to read and copy.

  • The last settings row stops above the gesture bar instead of sitting on it.

  • The viewing history page follows Black settings page, its search box matches the one on the settings page, the picked tab is underlined, long names end in an ellipsis and an empty list shows an icon.

  • Show and reorder tabs draws its drag handles instead of using a text symbol that changed with the phone's font.

  • The main settings page no longer shows a thin grey line down each screen edge. The restart bar and the viewing history search now line up with the cards.

  • About 60 of HushGram's toasts ran past the two lines Android shows, in English or a translation, so their ends never showed. They're shorter now in all ten languages.

  • When safe mode pauses HushGram it says so in two toasts, and the second says where to turn it back on.

  • Pure black dark mode and Seek bar on stories find their story code through the patcher's index instead of reading every class. With every patch on, patching takes about 4% less processor time. The patched app is the same. Refs #173.

Behind the scenes

  • patch-for-device.ps1 merges a split bundle before handing it to the CLI, so it works on a machine that refuses to follow the links the CLI makes.

  • preflight.ps1 -Version now refuses a source census past its 14 days. Until now the index push was the first thing to say so, after the gate, the walk and the publish.

  • count_tests.py --description prints only the validation sentence on stdout and its counts on stderr, so saving its output gives release_notes.py the one line it wants.

  • When verify-all-patches.ps1 -KeepIn can't keep a passing run, it now deletes only the files the keep writes. It used to delete the whole folder you named, with everything else in it.

  • A verify-all-patches.ps1 -KeepIn keep drops the last run's stamp before it starts, so a half-finished keep never passes for a whole one.

  • Changelog entries don't open with an "Instagram:" label anymore, since HushGram only patches Instagram. A topic like Glass tab bar: stays. The release notes and Manager's text drop a leftover label, and release_notes.py --drop-labels clears it at the cut.

The changelog has every earlier release too.

How to update

  1. Update Morphe Manager to 2.5.0 or newer, then refresh the HushGram source.
  2. Patch Instagram 454.0.0.54.77. Supported Instagram builds lists the builds that work.
  3. Install over your current patched Instagram with the manager's existing signing key. Keep that key so updates keep working.

The .mpp download is a patch bundle, not an Instagram APK. Installation instructions.
