github SysAdminDoc/HushFacebook v0.21.0

This one stays on Facebook 585.0.0.47.54 and Morphe Manager 2.3.0 or newer, so just update the patches and repatch. The Hush settings got a new look with a Switches that are on list and a Custom accent color. New switches put a post's photos in a carousel, turn Reels gray, start a break after 20 reels, translate or hide posts in other languages, and add a seek bar and a full player button to feed videos. Stories can get a play button and a progress bar along the bottom. There are plenty of fixes too, like comments that stopped loading after the first ten and Back from a post jumping the feed to the top.

New in this release

  • New Open full screen videos centered under Video and audio. A video you open in Facebook's full screen player, from a comment or a link, starts with its details and comments folded away, so a wide video sits in the middle of the screen instead of up at the top. The arrow under it still opens the panel. It's off by default. (#242)

  • New Dim around a zoom under Pinch to zoom. Turn it off and the rest of the screen stays as it is while you zoom into a photo or story, instead of going dark behind it. It's on by default, so zooms look the same as before until you change it. (#220)

  • New Keep videos playing while zoomed under Pinch to zoom. A video you zoom into on a profile or Page keeps playing under your fingers, where it used to stop on the frame it showed. With Stay zoomed on too, press and hold the zoom to pause the video and hold again to play it. Stories still hold still while you zoom. It's off by default. (#220)

  • New Search photo in post menus, right under Save photo in post menus. A post with one photo gets Search photo in its three-dot menu, and a tap hands that photo to the app you pick, like Google Lens, so you can find out what's in it or copy the text out of it. The photo comes from Facebook's servers at the biggest size the post has, and only the app you pick can read it. It's off by default and needs Save any photo on. (#245, #248)

  • New Show Reels in gray under Reels and Watch, with the other Clean up Reels switches. The Reels screen shows in black and white, buttons, caption and video alike, which makes it a little easier to put down. Your feed, stories, photos and chats keep their colors, and so does a reel you download. A video you open full screen from the feed can go gray too, since it plays on a screen like Reels. A swipe between reels doesn't flash color, and the colors come back when you leave Reels. It starts from the next reel after you turn it on, because the reel's player has to draw with the rest of the screen for its video to go gray, so this needs the Turn off HDR brightness patch in your build too. It's off by default and costs a little battery on Reels.

  • New Also after 20 reels under Take breaks. With it on, a break also starts once you've watched 20 different reels, if that comes before your Break after time. A reel counts after it's played for 3 seconds, so ones you swipe past right away don't, and watching the same reel again doesn't count twice. Ads and live videos never count. The count starts over after a break, after time away as long as a break, and when the switch is turned off, and it survives a restart of Facebook. It's off by default and needs the Resume long videos patch, which is what notices reels playing. (#248)

  • New Full player button on feed videos under Video and audio, right below Inline feed video controls. It puts a button next to play that opens the video in Facebook's own full player with all its controls, and a video playing in the feed stops first. Live videos get it too. It starts off, and with Tap to play on it needs Inline feed video controls on as well. (#239)

  • New Clean up the story viewer under Stories, with three switches. Hide song and effect credits takes the song or effect credit off the line under the poster's name. A line that only showed the credit goes away, and one that switched back and forth keeps just its usual text. A story Facebook labels Trending or Suggested keeps its line as it was, so the label isn't lost. Hide reply suggestions takes away the row of suggested replies at the bottom of a story, and the reply box stays. Progress bar at the bottom draws a thin bar along the bottom of a story that fills as it plays, like the one on Reels. All three start off, and the first two apply from the next story you open. (#380)

  • New Story viewer taps under Stories, with two switches. Story play button puts a play and pause button on a story when you tap its middle, the way Reels does. It fades away a couple of seconds after the story plays again, and taps on the sides still change stories. Double tap for next story makes stories change only on a double tap (the left side goes back, anywhere else goes forward), so a single tap pauses or plays the story instead, or brings up the button when that's on. The pause is Facebook's own. Both start off. (#380)

  • New Block button on reaction lists under Comments and writing, next to Block button on comments. In the list of people who reacted to a post, the button at the end of each row (Add friend, Message, Confirm and the like) says Block, and a tap opens Facebook's own block screen for that person, with its usual question before anything is blocked. Your own row and rows Facebook shows no button on stay as they are. It's off by default, and a change shows on lists opened after it. (#271)

  • New GmsCore support patch for phones without Google Play services, so Facebook gets its push notifications through microG-RE. It's off by default and only shows in Expert mode, since on a phone with Google Play services Facebook would stop getting push.

  • New Open in Facebook from the share menu patch. Messenger keeps facebook.com links in its own browser, so share the page from there (or the link from any app) and pick Open in Facebook, and it opens in the patched Facebook. Hushfacebook settings lists it under Built-in changes, with a line on how to use it. (#111)

  • New Let each post come back once under Hide posts you've already seen. A post counts as seen after a quarter second on screen, so a quick scroll used to hide plenty you never read. With this on, a post you scrolled past shows up one more time, and it's hidden once you scroll past it again. It starts off. (#186)

  • Hushfacebook now tells you when Facebook's icons look soft because of the download you patched. The 32-bit bundle only has images for 320 dpi screens, so on a sharper screen the Home, bell, Profile, Search and Messenger icons get enlarged and look blurry. On a phone that can run the 64-bit bundle, a short note says so once after you install, and a line under the status card in the settings names the bundle to patch instead. (#365)

  • New Hide Up next on videos under Reels and Watch. It takes the UP NEXT bar, with the next video's name and length, off the bottom of a video you open from the feed. Off by default. (#367)

  • Show the post date on reels now dates older reels too. Past the first week Facebook often leaves the date out, so an older reel showed nothing under the poster's name even with the switch on. It now reads "3 weeks ago" there. A new Show the post date as list right under it picks between how long ago and the date it was posted, like Oct 12. (#357)

  • New Hide pictures on the Blocked list under Privacy. The people on Facebook's Blocking page, in Settings & privacy, show without their profile pictures, and their names and Unblock buttons stay put. Every build has it, and it starts off. (#361)

  • New Videos in search results wait for a tap under Video and audio. Videos in search results stay still until you tap one, whether Tap to play is on or off. It's off until you turn it on. (#363)

  • New Hide the Reels title under Reels and Watch. It takes the word Reels off the top of the Reels tab and leaves the buttons beside it. It starts off. (#362)

  • New Hide the Join button on posts under News feed. A post from a group you haven't joined shows a Join button after the group's name, and this takes it off while the name stays. It also takes the Join group bar off the bottom of those groups' videos. It shows on posts drawn after you flip it. It starts off. (#356)

  • New Emoji after the logo text setting under Appearance, next to Home header text. Type an emoji and it's drawn right after the Facebook logo at the top of Home, as tall as the logo and in its own colors, so Badge and logo colors and the accent don't tint it. It also follows your header text or picture when you use one. Leave it blank for none, and restart Facebook to see a change. A settings file now carries the emoji too. (#360)

  • New Switches that are on row at the top of the settings, above the first section, and search finds it too. It opens a list of only the switches you have on, each with its working switch. Turn one off there and it's off everywhere. (#353)

  • Accent color has a new Custom choice. Pick it and a small editor opens with red, green and blue sliders, a preview swatch and a color code field, all kept in step. Save keeps the color, and a restart applies it. A settings file now carries the color, so importing it elsewhere keeps your Custom accent. (#355)

  • New Remove the gap above Marketplace listings under Marketplace. On some phones, like Pixels on Android 17, a listing opened with an empty band between the status bar and its close and share buttons. That band is gone now, and phones that never had it look the same. It's on by default. (#333)

  • New Restore feed sound after opened videos under Video and audio. A video you open from the feed still plays with its sound, but once you go back the feed's sound is what it was before, even after a long watch. Before, watching a while with sound left every feed video playing out loud. Works with Keep feed videos muted on or off, and it starts off. (#350)

  • New Only reels from accounts I follow switch under Reels and Watch, part of Clean up Reels. The Reels tab then keeps reels from people and Pages you follow and skips the ones Facebook would show a Follow button on. The first reel it opens on always stays. If Facebook keeps sending only reels from people you don't follow, a message says so and those reels stop being filtered for now, since Facebook ends the tab on an error otherwise. It can take a little longer to fill, and it starts off. (#349)

  • New Photo carousel under News feed. A post with several photos or videos shows them in a row you swipe through, one at a time, instead of Facebook's grid. A count like 4/10 sits in the corner and dots under the photo show where you are. Posts with sensitive photos keep their cover. It starts off. (#345)

  • New Hide posts in other languages under News feed, part of Hide posts by words. It hides a post when your phone is sure its words are in a language you don't keep, and a reel on the Reels tab when its caption is. Pick them in Languages to keep. With none picked, your phone's own language stays. Posts and reels that are too short to tell, have no caption, or that the phone isn't sure about stay too, and nothing leaves the phone. It starts off. (#382)

  • New Hide the line over the comment box under Comments and writing. The thin line along the top of the comment box you get when you open a post goes away. Off by default. (#344)

  • New Rounded tab bar under Appearance, in Screen and motion. With the tab bar at the bottom it turns into a pill with round ends, a bit narrower and lifted just off the bottom of the screen. Works with See-through bars too, and it starts off. (#344)

  • Search results get their Posts chip back, right after Reels, so you can see only posts for what you searched. It's on by default, and Show Posts in search under Search turns it off. (#339)

  • New Seek bar on feed videos under Video and audio. It runs a bar just above the bottom of a feed video, clear of the speaker and tagged people buttons, and you drag it and let go to jump to that point, with the time showing while you drag. It starts off, and with Tap to play on it needs Inline feed video controls on too. (#326)

  • New Hide replies button switch under Comments and writing. A reply thread you opened gets a Hide replies button over it, with the arrow pointing up, so you can close it again after reading. It's off by default. (#325)

  • New Hide the Back reminder switch under News feed. With Back leaves Home where it is on, Back keeps your place without the "Press Back again to go to the top" toast. (#334)

  • New Hide the Commission eligible label switch under News feed takes that label off reels, along with the gap it leaves under the creator's name when a reel has nothing else to disclose. It starts off. (#329)

  • New Hide the 2x popups switch under Video and audio. Holding a video for 2x then shows no pill at all, so no "Speed: 2x", "Release to lock" or "Locked at 2x speed", in your feed as well as on reels. The hold and the lock still work. It starts off. (#289, #343)

  • New Move the speaker above the three dots switch under Video and audio. It puts a reel's speaker button in the side column, right above the three dots. You'll find it off at first. (#331)

  • The Hush settings now come in Russian, translated by vortexnode. (#335)

  • Posts in another language can get a Translate line under their text, or show translated by themselves with See original under them, through Google Translate. Both switches start off, in Hushfacebook settings > News feed, where you also pick the language to translate to and the languages to leave alone. (#332)

  • New Tab order row under Tabs and navigation, next to the Hide tabs switches. Tap a tab in its list to move it up, then save and restart Facebook. Facebook opens on whichever tab you put first, unless Open on a chosen tab says otherwise. The order goes in settings backups too. (#341)

  • New Show only watched stories switch under Stories. The Stories tray then keeps only the stories you've already watched, so you can find one again, and you turn it off to get the new ones back. Hide seen stories waits while it's on. It starts off. (#340)

Fixes

  • With Force dark mode on, the Hushfacebook settings go dark along with Facebook. On a phone or tablet in light mode they stayed light, which stood out most on tablets where Facebook's own settings have no Dark mode. (#259)

  • With Default comment order on All comments, a post whose comments open in Most relevant and get switched over no longer stops after the first ten or so with a spinner under them. The switch happened while Facebook was still loading the first batch, and that left the next page loading forever until you closed the comments and opened them again. It now waits a second for that first batch, the way a tap of your own would. (#384)

  • With Keep feed position on return on, going back to the feed from a post's own page or its comments keeps your place on accounts where Facebook opens those as a screen of their own. Facebook checks whether to reload the feed each time it comes back into view, and those checks were only answered after you'd left the app, so Back from a post could still reload the feed and jump to the top. Pull to refresh still works. (#378)

  • Most videos you open from the feed play in a second full-screen viewer, and it kept its own UP NEXT pill and a black strip under the video. Hide Up next on videos now hides that pill there too. The strip is the room Facebook keeps for the comment box, so with Hide the video comment box on it goes as well. The video fills the screen and its seek bar moves down to the bottom with it. That also stops the top of the next reel from peeking in under the video, in a profile's reels and in videos you open from the feed. (#375, #358)

  • Show full post text opens long reel captions whole again on Facebook 585. (#268)

  • Burn-in guard dims the eye that View stories anonymously puts on stories, along with the story's other buttons. It used to stay at full brightness.

  • With the Material You theme, a color you pick in Accent color now reaches the plus on Create story and the Find friends button too. They kept the wallpaper's color before. (#272)

  • With Keep the progress bar on, a reel opened from the feed shows its time bar right away. It used to be missing for a second or so while the reel viewer caught up with the video the feed had been playing. For that moment the bar now sits at the start, then jumps to where the reel is and keeps moving. (#359)

  • With Hide seen stories and View stories anonymously both on, a story Facebook has shown as watched once now stays hidden until that person posts a new one, even after a restart or a refresh that sends it as unwatched. Before, it stayed hidden only when the time you watched it lined up with Facebook's post time, so a phone clock that's a bit off could bring it back. (#340)

  • With Turn off HDR brightness on, HLG reels in VP9 shouldn't come out bright and yellow anymore on phones without a Snapdragon chip. The switch used to ask the phone's video decoder to convert those reels itself, and some phones' conversion shifted the colors. Now the reel goes over in its own colors and Android fits them to the screen, which is what Snapdragon phones already got. I've only watched it on a Snapdragon phone so far. (#93)

  • With Keep the progress bar on, a playing reel no longer redraws the whole screen every frame. The bar moves about a pixel at a time and at most 30 times a second, and a long reel's bar moves only as often as Facebook's own does. On my phone the screen used to redraw about 55 times a second for as long as a reel played, and Pause showed none of that. Fix washed-out video colors now says it can make videos stutter, mostly high frame rate ones. (#364)

  • Hide For you in search now also hides the For you grid when Facebook sends the search page without saying which section is which. That happens on the page Facebook loads ahead of time when the app starts, from Home or any other tab. In that case Hushfacebook reads the section's name from the page's own layout, and Debug logging lists the names it found. (#285)

  • With See-through bars on, a feed video that slides under the top or bottom bar is blurred along with the rest of the page on phones where Facebook used to draw it on a separate layer the blur couldn't reach. Reels keep that layer. (#250)

  • With Open comments at full height on, tapping more on a reel's description opens the whole text right there again. It used to open the comments instead, on reels Facebook would have shown with comments in a split screen. (#269)

  • In a copy made with Clone app, the in-app browser asks the copy itself for the processes that draw its pages. It used to ask the regular Facebook app, which a copy can't count on being there. I haven't watched this on a signed-in copy yet. (#36)

  • With Burn-in guard set to dim and shift, stories stay put. The story viewer is see-through, so each step showed a thin line of the feed at its edge. Stories still dim. (#369)

  • Show the post date on reels now works on reels with a song. In the Reels tab the song's name takes the line under the poster, so most reels still had no date. The date now goes in front of the song, like "3 weeks ago · Artist · Song". (#357)

  • When an imported file picks a start tab, the import message now says it applies with Open on a chosen tab on. It used to say Facebook will open there, even with that switch off.

  • Importing a settings file that changes a lot of switches no longer freezes Facebook. A big file could hold the screen for about a minute, long enough for Android to offer to close the app. With something typed in the settings search it was worse, and settings that wait for a restart added a pause of their own.

  • See-through bars keeps its blur lined up with the bar when the page under it is scrolled inside its own frame.

  • With Search date range on, the Date posted row in Filter Posts keeps showing the range you applied instead of going back to Any date, and the range stays put when you change another filter. (#279)

  • A profile you open from someone's story stays out of your search history's visits now, with either Don't save search history or View stories anonymously on. (#221)

  • The play and cast buttons on feed videos now land in the same place on every phone, just under the channel picture on reel style posts. How far down they sat used to depend on the status bar.

  • With the tab bar at the top, Notifications, Groups, Feeds and Profile no longer lose their first rows under the bar. 0.20.0 caused this when it let reels run full height under a top bar, and now only the Reels tab does that. (#328)

  • Starting on a Feeds filter, like Friends, no longer lands on an empty "You're all caught up" page. The chosen filter now loads its posts by itself. (#330)

  • See-through bars keeps frosting the tab bar when the page under it stops short of the bar's holder or sits a level up. Those layouts used to flip it to a dark strip with the feed sharp behind it. (#250)

  • With Tab to open on set to Feeds on an account with no Feeds tab, Restart Facebook to apply this change lands back on the settings screen. The Feeds page used to open over it. (#330)

  • Select part of a post's text no longer draws solid boxes behind the selection handles and the copy toolbar. (#294)

  • With Keep the progress bar on, a reel's bar and time now travel with the reel while you drag it, so they stop sitting on top of the next reel. (#120)

  • Keep the progress bar lifts a reel's bar when the Reels tab would put it behind the tab bar. (#282)

  • A post a link opens stays at the top of Home even when Facebook sends it as an ad, which it does for a boosted page post. The ad switches used to hide it, and the suggested post after it showed in its place. (#306)

  • With Select part of a post's text on, holding a post's text only opens the box now. It doesn't also copy the whole text, so whatever you had on the clipboard stays there, and Facebook's "Text copied to clipboard" message no longer pops up for it. The box has a Copy all button for when you do want all of it. (#342)

Other changes

  • Rounded tab bar now puts a soft blue spot behind the tab you're on, a smaller pill inside the bar's own, so it's easier to see where you are. It moves with you when you switch tabs, Facebook's own press ripple still shows, and it goes away with the switch. (#383)

  • Home header picture leaves out a see-through border around your picture now, so a logo saved with empty space around it fills the header instead of looking tiny. A border you can see, like a white frame, stays. Your saved picture isn't changed. (#230)

  • Live feed videos get the play and pause button from Inline feed video controls now. They still don't get the seek bar or the cast button, since a live stream has no end to jump around in and no file to hand over. (#239)

  • Patching is faster. Most patches used to read through all of Facebook's code, one class after another, to find the few places they change. Hushfacebook now reads the app once, notes what each class uses, and sends each patch straight to the classes it needs. On Facebook 585 the patch step went from about 22 seconds to about 15 on a two-core run, and the patched app comes out the same as before. (#216)

  • The Hush settings have a new look. The page opens on Hushfacebook's own blue H logo (it ships inside the patch, so it shows even when the launcher icon is left alone), the Hushfacebook name in a blue gradient and a line with the patch and Facebook versions, with the search and a new Show all settings as a list toggle under them. By category, each section is a full-width row you tap to open. As a list, every section shows at once, and the page remembers which way you picked. Open sections sit on inset cards under their headings, every row has an icon, and only rows that open something get an arrow. The bar at the top names the page again once the header scrolls away, and says Search settings while you type a search.

  • Dialogs in the Hush settings match the page. Titles are in the gradient, and buttons are outlined cards at least 48 dp tall that wrap long words instead of cutting them off. A picked choice is tinted in the accent, and a text field's outline lights up while you type in it.

  • When a change needs a restart, the restart button is now an outlined bar under the search, lined up with the cards. Restarting still brings you back to the same settings page, in the same view.

  • Every text color in the Hush settings was measured and adjusted so it reads at 4.5:1 or better on the page, the cards and the dialogs. Section headings reach 7:1 on the black page.

  • The Advanced Marketplace filters title and its help use the same gradient as the Hush settings. The ? next to the title is a rounded square now, and it's easier to hit.

  • A long press on the title at the top of the other tabs opens the Hush settings too. Before, only the logo on Home did. (#374)

  • With Show when listings went up on, a listing's date sits right under its price, where Facebook puts Just listed, so you don't have to scroll down to the place line for it. Cars and other vehicles keep Facebook's own Listed line. (#303)

  • Hide Up next on videos also takes away the empty space Facebook kept for that bar, so the seek bar sits back at the bottom of the video. (#375)

  • See-through bars now reaches the Marketplace tab. Marketplace's page used to stop right above the tab bar, so the bar had nothing behind it to show. With the switch on, the page now runs under the bar the way Home's feed does, and turning the switch off puts it back. (#250)

  • Turn off auto-translation now covers comments too. With it on, a comment Facebook translated by itself shows in the words its writer used, and See translation under it still translates it when you tap. (#372)

  • With Show full post text on, a tap on a post's text folds it back to See more, and another tap opens it again, the way Facebook does it with the switch off. Before, a long post stayed open whatever you tapped. (#354)

  • Opening a section in the Hush settings folds the one you had open, so the page stays short and only one section is open at a time. (#368)

  • Burn-in guard now dims around a wide video you open from the feed. It plays small in the middle of the full-screen viewer, so the guard used to leave it alone. (#370)

  • If a future Facebook moves one of the spots Leave calls and chats to Messenger hooks into, Open Messenger from the top bar still patches. Only the second switch drops out of the settings for that build. (#39)

  • Open feed videos on their own now also holds group videos that Facebook opens as a regular video post, like one from an anonymous group member or a group video you open from your home feed. Swiping up from them used to reach the next video. (#237)

  • Hide suggested groups takes the "Suggested for you" groups card off the Groups tab now, along with Home. (#347)

  • Hide the top right buttons on opened videos takes Search and the profile button off the top of the Reels tab too. Menu stays where it is. (#346)

  • Hide affiliate product links also keeps the shop banner (the one with "On Shopee" and an X) off a creator's profile when you open it from one of their reels. (#329)

  • Inline feed video controls now puts its buttons on videos in Pages, groups and profiles, as well as on Home. (#239)

  • Search date range now takes a day for each end too. Pick the months on Facebook's own wheels and the days on the two wheels under them, so a search can cover a few days instead of whole months. (#279)

  • Hide the Subscribe button on videos also takes the Subscribe pill in a reel's footer, next to the author's name. (#291)

  • Hold a feed video for 2x can stay at 2x now. Pull down before you let go, and tap the video when you want its old speed back. (#229)

  • Hide "Related posts" under posts also takes the list of posts Facebook shows after the comments when you open a post on its own, and that post stops asking Facebook for the list. (#231)

  • With View stories anonymously on, Hide seen stories also takes out a story you watched to the end on this phone. Facebook never hears about those views, so it kept calling them unseen and they stayed in the tray. The story comes back when that person posts a new one. (#218)

Behind the scenes

  • Changelog entries don't open with a "Facebook:" label anymore. Hushfacebook only patches Facebook, so it repeated itself on every line. The release scripts stopped adding or asking for it, and they drop it from any bullet that still has one when a release is cut.

  • scripts/gen-l10n.py writes each language's table to a class of its own, since the one generated file had grown past the size lint will read. The release check also stops counting Russian plural rows as missing from the other tables when their English runs over more than one line.

  • The source census leaves out GitLab forks that are waiting to be deleted. Someone keeps forking the GitLab sources and deleting the copies again within a few hours, so every census flagged forks that were already gone.

The changelog has every earlier release too.

How to update

  1. Update Morphe Manager to 2.3.0 or newer, then refresh the Hushfacebook source.
  2. Patch Facebook 585.0.0.47.54. On most phones that's build 476015655, the arm64-v8a one. Phones with a 32-bit processor take build 476015543, the armeabi-v7a one.
  3. Install over your current patched Facebook with the manager's existing signing key. Keep that key so updates keep working.

The .mpp download is a patch bundle, not a Facebook APK. Installation instructions.

Look over a diagnostic report before you share it. The filter can still miss private text it doesn't recognize.

What was checked

Local checks passed: 5705 tests with no failures, plus both Android lints and the release-script checks. All 117 patches applied without forcing to Facebook 585.0.0.47.54, both the 64-bit and the 32-bit build, and a second build of the same commit matched this bundle entry for entry (968 entries). I patched Facebook with this exact bundle and walked the whole app with every switch on, on an emulator signed in to a full account. 84 of 118 hook families ran there, Photo carousel, Hold a reel for 2x and Open comments at full height among them, all 23 settings pages opened in dark and in light, and Facebook didn't crash once. Android's verifier raised nothing on the patched build, the same as on Meta's own. The walk doesn't reach downloads, chats or the story viewer, so those are covered by the patch tests alone this time, and the 32-bit build was checked by its patch tests rather than on a device.

Don't miss a new HushFacebook release
