PS5SX2 2.30 (build vk-285-187)
Everything from the test builds since 2.20 (183 to 187) in one version. After updating, restart your console once so the new disc helper (171p) loads.
Frame generation and display
- 60 → 120 fps on original PS5s below firmware 9.00 (it was stuck at 40/80 there). On a 4K TV on that firmware the extra frames are made at 1080p and scaled up (the empty file
flags/fgfullreskeeps the TV's size). - Lower delay with frame generation: frames go to the screen straight from the CPU. Lower input delay without frame generation too.
- No more 30-230 ms freeze each time frame generation starts (after loading screens and pause menus).
- Frame generation keeps up after you change the upscale; faster motion search at 4K.
Speed
- EE recompiler: cheaper code checks and memory accesses, in every game.
- GPU timing that nothing used is off: one less GPU step per readback, which should help readback-heavy games, most on firmware below 9.00 (the empty file
flags/gputimingturns it back on). - Games start about 0.4 s sooner; disc games another 0.5-2 s sooner (the drive's speed is no longer measured at every start).
- Games that flood the log (God of War, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Mercenaries, Midnight Club 3) no longer stall writing it.
Shelf and app
- L1 + R1 + touch pad goes straight back to the shelf again, without the home screen in between.
- The launch picture is in the release again (starting from the home screen showed black), and the shelf comes up sooner.
- The old front covers are back.
- Starting a game while the shelf is still reading new games no longer waits for the scan (it could take up to 5 minutes).
- Big libraries: a game file whose read hangs is skipped and remembered, even after a console crash, so the scan never gets stuck on it again.
- System update fetches the installer when it's missing.
- The Reload PS2 Disc tile is gone (the empty file
flags/disctile_reloadbrings it back).
Saves and stability
- .mc2 / .bin memory cards are written to disk 2-3 s after each save, and a killed session's saves are recovered at the next start.
- An emulation error no longer freezes the game for good: a message says what happened, and L1 + R1 + touch pad goes back to the shelf with your memory cards written.
- A rare wrong-thread bug right after loading a savestate is fixed.
Discs, ISOs and the disc helper
- ISO on a USB drive: a failed read is retried (and the file opened again) before the game gets a read error, and the cause is logged.
- Scratched discs: one bad read no longer slows loading for the rest of the disc.
- PS5 drive: the 8x speed patch runs only on firmware 11.40, where it was tested.
- Disc helper 171p: its clean-up never touches PS5SX2's own folders any more (PS5SX2 could start without
/data, so without BIOS, saves and settings, until a console restart), and it stays quiet while the console shuts down or rests. The app tells you once when a newer helper needs a console restart.
