PS5SX2 2.20

PS5SX2 2.20 (build vk-285-182)

Everything from the test builds since 2.15 (178 to 181) plus the fixes from your reports, in one version.

New

  • Updates inside the app. Square on the shelf > All games > PS5SX2 > System update: press Cross to check, Cross again to install. PS5SX2 closes, installs the new version and starts again by itself.
  • Nothing to load by hand. PS5SX2 now starts its own disc helper and installer. You only need your jailbreak (with its ELF loader), kstuff and ShadowMount+.
  • Open-source BIOS built in. No PS2 BIOS? Before a game starts, PS5SX2 asks: use OpenPS2BIOS (experimental, by Tamariba Devs, MIT licence: some games don't work yet) or put your own BIOS in /data/PCSX2/bios. Your own BIOS always wins. The open BIOS can't start PS1 discs, audio CDs or DVD video.
  • BIOS check before every start (shelf, discs, tiles): most failed starts were a missing BIOS, now you're told what to do.
  • PS5SX2 and PS5SX3 work side by side. A PS2 disc goes to PS5SX2, any other disc is left to PS5SX3 (use PS5SX3 TB19.1 or newer).
  • Game database built in. If /data/PCSX2/resources is missing (store installs, eboot copied by hand), the app uses its own copy, so games keep their fixes (Black, Need for Speed: Carbon, Burnout Revenge and many more were running without them).
  • Game tiles on by default.

Faster

  • Texture packs install much faster: big packs no longer crawl at 2-3 MB/s after the first ~2 GB.
  • Big CHD libraries: no more long black screen before the shelf. CHDs are read only as far as needed, results are remembered, and new games show a "Looking at new games" screen. Covers for games on USB drives download after the shelf opens (the empty file flags/prefetchusb brings back the old way).
  • PS5 drive: tries 8x first when playing or copying a disc, falls back to 3.2x.

Fixed

  • Google Drive texture packs: when Google's download limit is used up you get a clear message (try later or pick the archive.org pack) instead of a download stuck for good.
  • L1 + R1 + touch pad always brings you back to the shelf (the home screen shows for a moment).
  • PS2 disc tile: never asks any more. It starts your dump of that game if you have one, otherwise the disc.
  • Back from a disc game the shelf lands on that disc or its dump.
  • Disc games use their own per-game settings.
  • RetroAchievements: "Could not read or protect account storage" fixed; you stay signed in.
  • Online (DEV9): the emulation no longer freezes when a game server is slow to take data (Killzone dropped out of matches); a manual DNS is applied and DNS2 is read.
  • Samurai Shodown Anthology / ADK Tamashii: no crash when you pick a game from the menu. Tales of Destiny 2: no crash with the Software renderer. Need for Speed: Most Wanted: Recommended now picks 4x.
  • Session logs stay quiet while the console shuts down. Session logs are on (they help us fix games); Square > All games > PS5SX2 > Session logs turns them off.

Download

  • PS5SX2-vk-285-182.zip: the app (eboot and files). The installer installs it for you.
