PS5SX2 2.10 (build vk-285-171)
New
- PS2 discs on the PS5 home screen. Put a PS2 DVD in the console's drive while you are on the home screen: a tile with the game's name and cover shows up in about 6 seconds, and the PS5's own "Unsupported Disc" tile is hidden. Press ✕ on it and the game starts straight from the disc (or from its copy in
games/, if you made one): no shelf, no question. Take the disc out and the tile goes away. - A "Reload PS2 Disc" tile. If a disc's tile does not come, does not start, or the "Unsupported Disc" tile stays: press this tile once. It cleans up after the last game, has ShadowMount+ look again and makes the disc's tile again. A pop-up says "PS2 disc reloaded." a few seconds later.
- A question on the shelf. With PS5SX2 open, a PS2 disc that is not copied yet asks Play from disc or Copy to storage (Left / Right choose, ✕ confirms, ○ is "not now"). Play from disc starts at once and reads the disc as you play, like a real PS2, so the disc has to stay in. Copy to storage copies it first (several minutes) and plays from the copy: faster loading, and the disc can come out. A disc that
games/already holds starts from its copy with no question. So you can still dump a disc through the shelf, and once it is dumped, starting its game from the tile runs the dump instead of the disc.
Changed
- A PS2 disc put in on the home screen no longer starts PS5SX2 by itself: press its tile.
- The empty file
nodiscaskin/data/PCSX2/flags/brings the 2.03 behaviour back: no question on the shelf, and a disc put in on the home screen is copied and started by itself. Use it if you don't use ShadowMount+, because the tiles need it.
Download
PS5SX2-vk-285-171.zip: the app (eboot and files). The installer installs it for you.

Optional: try it if disc tiles stop starting after a few discs. If PS5SX2 cannot save its settings with it, go back toPS5SXHelper.elf.

Setting up the disc tiles
- Load ShadowMount+ (we tried 1.7beta3 and 1.7-beta5fix1), then one helper. After every console restart, in that order. To change helper, restart the console first.
- Wait about 40 seconds: the helper prepares the next tile folders in the background, and the "Reload PS2 Disc" tile appears. The first disc after that is as fast as the rest.
- Put in a PS2 DVD. You need your own PS2 BIOS in
/data/PCSX2/bios, as always.
If you use ps5sx2-bot.elf or ps5sx2-aio.elf (2.01 to 2.03): this release does not have it. Use PS5SX2Installer.elf and PS5SXHelper.elf instead, which do the same jobs, and do not load the bot as well. The helper also replaces the separate disc launchers (DiscLaunch.elf, PS5SX2-Disc.elf).
Good to know
- Take the disc out before you shut the console down. With a disc in, the console seems to kernel panic at shutdown.
- The console's own drive reads PS2 DVDs. It cannot read PS2 CDs.
- Covers come from the web. With no network the tile gets the game's name drawn on a disc. A SteamGridDB API key (one line in
/data/PCSX2/steamgriddb.key) adds more art. - The helper switches off ShadowMount+'s own "Installing ..." pop-up for the tiles (
quiet_mode=1in/data/shadowmount/config.ini). To leave ShadowMount+'s pop-ups alone, make the empty file/data/PCSX2/flags/disctile_smnotifyand load the helper again. - This is new: it has been tried on a few consoles so far (firmware 13.60 and ShadowMount+ 1.7-beta5fix1 among them). If a tile does not come or does not start, press the Reload tile. If that does not help, send
/data/PCSX2/disc-tiles/disctile.logand/data/PCSX2/boot.log(they can hold details of your console: send them privately).
In PS5SX2-vk-285-171.zip: the same layout as 2.03. PPSA99203/ goes to /data/homebrew/, PCSX2/ goes to /data/. Changed since 2.03: eboot.bin, sce_sys/param.json (version 2.10) and NOTICE.txt (the source commit and two credits). Every other file is byte-identical.
Updating from 2.03 or older: the PS5SX2 Installer does it for you. By hand: close PS5SX2 and replace /data/homebrew/PPSA99203/eboot.bin and /data/homebrew/PPSA99203/sce_sys/param.json. Do not delete the PPSA99203 folder: the disc tiles are made from its sce_sys and sce_module. Keep your /data/PCSX2 folder: your settings, memory cards and save states are in it.
