New — the Advanced RDS panel
The composite eye, in three colours. The FM composite drawn against time, triggered on the recovered 19 kHz pilot rather than an edge detector, with the audio filtered out. The three coherent components are drawn additively in their own colours — cyan pilot, magenta stereo sidebands, violet RDS — so the same picture now shows what is making each part of it. A solid line is a healthy component; speckle is scatter. One plot, three simultaneous verdicts.
It reads itself in plain English too: "pilot, stereo and RDS", "pilot dominates · little stereo", and — the one no single number reports — "pilot present but not locking, forms and collapses", which is what a marginal signal looks like when the PLL is nearly there.
A deviation monitor. Total peak deviation of the whole composite including audio, against the 75 kHz limit, with a peak-hold. This is the figure that says whether a station is within spec, and it is what the eye has been drawing all along as a flattened top.
Fixed
- The FM noise blanker was blanking 8 samples in every 9 on a clean signal. On by default, affecting every radio, so a strong local station arrived distorted with no pilot and no RDS. It also explained a long-standing fault where typing a frequency left a station distorted when stepping to it did not.
- CEQ was amplifying multipath instead of removing it. The equaliser drove the composite to a fixed level rather than flattening it; at real receiver amplitudes that made a reflection about three times worse than leaving it alone.
- Remote listeners were treated as if they were sitting at the machine — session limits, bans and the PIN all skipped, and LAN-only raw IQ served. Anyone reaching a Linux server through its tunnel was affected.
- RadioDNS station logos that would not resolve now do.
- A rapid retune could leave the eye blank until the server restarted.
