Tunnels now use HTTP/2 instead of QUIC. cloudflared defaults to QUIC, and QUIC delivers spectrum frames in clumps rather than evenly — measured over 80 frames a run: 97.6 ms of jitter and a worst stall of 773 ms, against 34–44 ms and 151–324 ms on HTTP/2, with an identical mean on both. That is not latency, it is burstiness, and 773 ms of it is an audible audio stutter.

This was measured and fixed months ago — but only ever applied to one machine, as a local systemd override. Every server anyone else installed kept the transport the measurement had rejected. A second owner independently reported audio stutters this week, which is what surfaced it.

Also in this release, from 4.1.9:

The SNR meter reads correctly. It was showing 0 dB on a station with a locked pilot and 12 dB on bare noise, because the noise reference was sampled from the very edge of the capture — on an RTL dongle, the anti-alias roll-off, where the tuner's output means nothing. The floor is now a low percentile of the whole usable span. The same value feeds the AGC's intermodulation test, which was therefore judging roll-off rather than noise.

Noise reduction has a usable range at both ends — a genuinely gentle setting at the bottom, over-subtraction at the top, and a slider that stays where you put it.

Audio recovers by itself after a dropped socket, and panning the spots map no longer interrupts it.
