VibeSDR for Android 12.0.0 beta65 (601) — a V12 TEST build.

This is an early test of V12, not a finished release. Expect rough edges, and please report what you find. The current release is still 11.0.16.

Before you install

  • It installs over 11.x and keeps your settings.
  • Going back to 11.x needs an uninstall first, and that loses your settings (favourites, bookmarks, server list, and the app's own server set-up). Export your bookmarks first if you want to keep them.
  • Updates to later V12 test builds are posted here; install each one by hand.

What is new in V12

  • New in beta65 — each radio shows only what it can do: the set-up page, the app's server screen and the modes a server offers now follow what that radio can actually run. An Icom shows its own modes and the decoders that work from its audio; an Airspy HF+ no longer offers DAB, ADS-B or LoRa; an RTL without direct sampling says how to get HF.
  • New in beta65 — DX Log counts one multiplex once: a multiplex heard through different transmitters was split into several rows (the BBC looked half as often heard as the rest). Each multiplex is now one entry with the transmitters heard listed inside it; existing logs are folded together automatically.
  • New in beta65 — a small server no longer bogs down after a DX sweep: a listener arriving during the DX Log's DAB sweep could get DAB with the FM receiver still running underneath it, enough to swamp a Pi 2.
  • New in beta65 — Icom IC-7300: reopening the radio after it is switched off and on no longer fails ("USB connection lost"), a radio still shutting down is no longer taken for switched on, and with "Power on the radio over CI-V" ticked the next listener always wakes it.
  • New in beta64 — DX LOG beside the GALLERY: an idle receiver logs the FM and DAB stations it can hear, with names, signal and when each was last heard. For DAB it waits longer on each block and lets the gain settle, to pull in a weak multiplex.
  • New in beta64 — DAB band scan: each multiplex is graded the way the live pane grades it (signal quality and error rate), so a moderate one no longer shows as strong. SCAN reopens the last list, SCAN AGAIN starts afresh, and once a scan exists the key reads MULTIPLEXES for every listener, shared tuners included.
  • New in beta64 — admin DAB SCAN and FM SCAN: the owner can scan from SERVER ADMIN with listeners connected; listeners see "Admin triggered a scan · Please wait" while the controls are held. The set-up page's DAB scan has moved there.
  • New in beta64 — DAB transmitters named on D1 and Herts Beds Bucks, and transmitter strength measured against the true noise floor.
  • New in beta64 — edit a bookmark (thanks, discussion #59): your own bookmarks always; the server's bookmarks for the owner.
  • New in beta64 — Icom IC-7300: AM and LSB no longer swap, the radio tunes like any shared dial ("Only I may tune this radio" is an option), the RF controls follow the same rules as an SDR's gain, decoders run from the radio's own audio (tune the VFO over the signal as usual), and the web page's tuning bar and auto contrast are fixed.
  • New in beta64 — the Icom's power belongs to its server: the owner sets "Power on radio via serial" and "Automatically power off when not in use" (after Instant to 60 minutes, default 5) in the server's set-up. A switched-off radio shows greyed in the server's radio list.
  • New in beta64: the AGC overview counts any gain write that did not land, instead of a large warning.
  • New in beta63 — DAB pulls in weaker multiplexes: the receiver keeps more of a weak signal's detail for its error correction, so station names and audio hold on further into the noise. Strong multiplexes decode exactly as before.
  • New in beta63 — NDB beacons named far better: 25 more beacons the public lists miss (Southend, Cardiff, East Midlands, Hawarden, Newquay, Merville, Weser, Belfast City, Londonderry, Beauvais and more), "Suspected X (not on list — confirm?)" for the rest, and the false EEI / ES / SE "beacons" (DGPS data read as Morse) gone.
  • New in beta63 — NAVTEX fog signals: a foghorn icon for "FOG SIGNAL INOPERATIVE" warnings, and one combined marker when a light and its fog signal are both out.
  • New in beta63: the shipping map opens fitted to everything heard, and the gallery's page buttons no longer vanish when you page back.
  • New in beta61 — tune keys that say where they go: in DAB, ISM and DIGI BAND the tune keys name the block or band they go to, and the one you are on is shown bold between them (11B · 11C · 11D), so a run of presses no longer stops one short.
  • New in beta61 — the app's server mode has every VibeServer setting: Background Decoding and the gallery, the whole SDRplay card (broadcast/DAB/AM notches, HDR, 24 MHz reference, VibeAGC, AGC targets, aerial by band), "Scan all DAB blocks", the impulse noise blanker and the Airspy HF+ calibration. VFO B and raw IQ settings now take effect on an ordinary Start.
  • New in beta61 — the DRM box can be made big again (BIG / SMALL key).
  • VFO A/B on a VibeServer: two frequencies on one radio at the same time, each with its own mode, filter and squelch — the lower in your left ear, the higher in your right. Switch it on from the frequency card. The spectrum and waterfall follow whichever VFO you are tuning.
  • Two servers at once: listen to any two servers together — VibeServer, UberSDR, KiwiSDR, Web-888, OpenWebRX or FM-DX, in any mix, or two radios on one VibeServer — one in each ear, or both in both. Listen to a 2nd server is in the Servers menu.
  • Icom IC-7300 on a VibeServer, receive only: the radio's own scope as the waterfall and its own audio, tuned over CI-V, with its modes, filters, preamp, attenuator, AGC and noise controls.
  • Known-signal labels: well-known utility signals in view are named with the decoder they want — RTTY, WEFAX, NAVTEX, DSC, FT8, VOLMET, the time signals and more — along with your bookmarks and, on FM, station names learnt from RDS.
  • Decoders the receiver cannot use are greyed, with the reason — tap one and it tells you why, with the numbers (for example, a radio locked to part of the FM band).
  • Broadcast FM defaults, set by the server's owner: de-emphasis by region, which of ST, NR, IMS, CEQ, AUTO BW and NB start on, and whether each new listener gets those defaults or the last listener's settings. Listeners can still change them for themselves.
  • The shipping map: the NAVTEX, AIS and DSC maps are now one map in layers — ships, DSC positions, NAVTEX stations, warnings and weather — with a new SEA AREAS layer covering the UK, North America, Germany, Norway, Ireland, Spain, Japan and the southern oceans.
  • Feld Hell (Hellschreiber) on a VibeServer: the signal is drawn into strips as it is heard, for you to read by eye.
  • MFSK, Olivia, Contestia and Thor on a VibeServer, under one MFSK key: AUTO finds the sub-mode and names it; manual FAMILY and MODE settings sit underneath for when AUTO cannot lock.
  • Every decoder with an AUTO starts in AUTO; a manual choice is kept until you close the app.
