Thanks to Onfliner for the Airspy Mini reports — most of this release came out of them, plus a connection meter that turned out to be wrong in both directions.
The connection meter
It said three green bars on a server whose ping was spiking to 4.5 seconds with the audio buffer climbing — both figures printed on the same status line it was ignoring. And it sat on two yellow bars on a perfectly healthy receiver, because it judged frame gaps against the rate the client asked for: ask for 20, get a steady 8, and every frame is late for ever.
It now measures its own median cadence — a server's chosen frame rate is not a link fault — and takes the worst of frames, ping and buffer. Both the app and the web client use the same thresholds, so they can no longer disagree about one link. The app's jitter trigger went too: it demoted at 80 ms, which ordinary Wi-Fi does all day.
The "learning the connection" animation is gone. It made the meter look broken, and it was hiding a reading that was never wrong.
Idle power saving removed
The 30-second idle slowdown inferred "nobody is looking" from "nobody is touching" — backwards for a waterfall, which is the one thing you watch without touching anything. It has gone, along with its switch, its POWER SAVE pill, and the server setting that forced it on.
What stays: the adaptive rate ladder for a genuinely poor connection, the background freeze (nothing to draw off screen), and the owner's frame-rate cap — the real lever on small hardware like a Pi Zero. A hidden browser tab still throttles.
Airspy R2 / Mini
- Gain mode no longer resets to Free. A generic "auto gain" was pushed on every reconnect and took the chosen Sensitive/Linear mode and both stage AGCs with it.
- The preset slider exists. Sensitive and Linear were asked for "with one slider" and the slider was never drawn.
Also
- The WFM filter reaches ±250 kHz, matching the web client — the same radio was offering two different maximum passbands depending on which client you used.
- Noise reduction and the auto-notch are remembered now that NR / NB / AN show as badges when they are on. They were deliberately forgotten before, because an invisible noise reduction sounds like a broken receiver.
- The VTS bar's automatic-gain notice was 230 characters of scrolling advice; it now reads AGC: On | IF Filter: Auto.
- Landscape reclaims the dead space above the frequency box and gives the status readouts a full-width row, so they stop truncating.
