⚡ Claude Terminal v1.3.8
Long conversations that hand themselves off, idle tabs that give their memory back, and a first launch that installs Claude Code for you.
The headline
🔁 Long conversations hand themselves offPast a context threshold you choose (500k tokens by default, off until you turn it on in Settings > Chat), the session writes a handoff summary at the end of a turn and the tab carries on in a fresh session that opens on it, under a divider. The previous session stays whole in the history, and a message you type while the summary is being written opens the new session. |
🌙 Idle conversations go to sleepEvery chat tab used to keep its Claude Code process for as long as it stayed open, a few hundred megabytes each. A tab left alone for 15 minutes now closes its process; the conversation stays on screen and your next message picks it up where it was. Never the tab you have open, nor while a turn, a question or a background task is still running. Settings > Chat, 0 to disable. |
📦 Claude Code, installed from the first launchThe setup wizard now checks whether Claude Code is installed and can install it for you with Anthropic's official installer, progress shown in the wizard. And Claude terminal tabs no longer depend on it: without Claude Code on the PATH, they run the one bundled with the app. |
🔌 Reconnect a signed-out accountAn account whose login was lost (a refused refresh, a sign-out elsewhere) could only be fixed by deleting it and adding it again, losing its projects and automations. Settings > Accounts now has a Reconnect button that signs it in again in place, and refuses a sign-in that lands on a different account. |
Everything else
- The handoff threshold also bounds subagents and very long turns. While the handoff is on, each session tells Claude Code to compact 10% above the threshold, which covers what the handoff cannot reach: a subagent's own window, and a single turn that runs far past the threshold before it ends
- Each subagent card shows its own context window, so a subagent heading for its own compaction is visible before it gets there
- The last row of the terminal was cut off, the one where Claude Code shows its status line. Terminals were sized for 16 pixels more than they had, so one row ended up below the window and one column under the scrollbar (#242)
- A restored conversation whose first message failed to resume started a blank conversation on the next message. It now tries to resume the same one again
- A conversation going to sleep or waking up is not a session start or end for the
claude_session_start/claude_session_endautomation triggers, since it is the same conversation carrying on
