Fifth test build of the unofficial native Windows version of Ridge Racer 6 (Xbox 360), and the fourth public release. Inside the zip it calls itself "test build 08".
You need your own Ridge Racer 6 disc image (USA, title ID 4E4D07D3). No game data is included.
New since v0.1.3
- Downloadable content. If you own downloadable content for Ridge Racer 6, you can now add it to the game. The launcher has a new DLC page: press Add content files... or Add a folder... and point it at your content.
- You need the content files from your own Xbox 360's storage. They are in
Content\0000000000000000\4E4D07D3\00000002and have long names without an extension. A PC cannot read an Xbox 360 drive directly; a reader program for the console's disk format is needed to copy them off. - A folder is searched together with the folders inside it, so the whole copied
Contentfolder will do. Only Ridge Racer 6 content is taken. - Added music appears as a "Player Disc" under Change BGM on the screen before a race.
- No content is included in this release, and none is downloaded. Please keep your content files to yourself.
- You need the content files from your own Xbox 360's storage. They are in
- The game itself is otherwise unchanged from v0.1.3.
Tested so far: five of the downloadable music tracks were added and played in a race. The downloadable car designs have not been tried. If you have them, a report on whether they work would be very welcome.
To update, unzip this one next to the old folder and move the game folder across; the game files do not need copying again. Saves are kept (they are in Documents\rr6_recomp).
Install
- Download
RidgeRacer6-PC-v0.1.4.zipand unzip it to a normal folder. - Start
RR6 Launcher.exe. Windows may warn about it; see below. - Press Choose disc image... and pick your
.iso. The game files are copied out of it once (about 6 GB). - Press Play.
Known limitations
- Played on one PC only so far (NVIDIA RTX 3060 Ti, 3440x1440), in short sessions.
- Achievements: one has been earned on Windows so far ("360!"). The new pop-up and its chime have been seen on the Linux build, not yet on Windows.
- An achievement is awarded after the race, with the save, not at the moment it is earned; a race left early gives nothing. That is how the game itself works.
- AMD and Intel graphics, PlayStation controllers, most tracks and cars, long sessions and the ending videos are untested.
- Online play does not work.
- On ultrawide screens the videos and the loading screen are stretched.
If Windows warns about the download
The programs are not code-signed, and a new release is a file few people have downloaded yet, so Windows and browsers warn about it.
- Edge blocks the download: in the downloads list choose the three dots next to the file, then Keep, Show more, Keep anyway.
- Before unzipping: right-click the zip, Properties, tick Unblock, OK.
- "Windows protected your PC" on the first start: More info, then Run anyway.
More in the README.
If your antivirus flags rexruntime.dll
bin\rexruntime.dll is the runtime of the ReXGlue SDK, the toolkit this port is made with, built from our fork of it. It is the same file as in v0.1.3. Eight scanners on VirusTotal flag it, all with one verdict, Gen:Variant.Yogi.85276: Bitdefender and seven products that use its engine. A false-positive report has been sent to Bitdefender. The file is not packed, and the name is a general-purpose label, not that of a known piece of malware.
The README has the results file by file with links, what the file does, and how to check that your copy is the published one.
