An experimental build for desktop Linux. It contains no game data: you need your own Ridge Racer 6 (USA) disc image.
New in test build 06
- Language. The game can be played in any of its disc's six languages: English, Japanese, German, French, Spanish or Italian. Until now it was always told to use English. Choose once with
./ridge-racer-6.sh --language german(orenglish, japanese, french, spanish, italian); the choice is kept inbin/rr6_recomp.tomlasuser_language. In Japanese, the menu titles and course names stay in English: that is how the game's own Japanese text has them. - DLC folder. The package has a
DLCfolder. Put the downloadable content files you own in it (folders inside it are searched too), and each time the game starts it adds the ones that are new or have changed.--install-dlc FILE-OR-FOLDERstill works as well. - Safer content installer. Each package's list of files is checked before anything is written: a doctored package could otherwise write files outside the content folder. Files are unpacked into a separate folder with every write checked, then moved into place.
- Disc copy. A damaged disc image is refused instead of being copied in part.
--install-dlcis no longer lost when the script reopens itself in a terminal on the first start.- F3 shows the frame rate. The F3 window used to be an empty box. The log (
logs/run.log) now also gets a line every 30 seconds with the frame rate and the slowest frame, so a bug report shows how fast the game ran. - The F4 window keeps a change only when you press Save to config there.
Also in this build, as before: the black-track fix in the graphics code itself (our fork of the ReXGlue SDK), and the game's 36 achievements with a pop-up, a sound and a list (hold Back + Start, then Y; on a keyboard F7).
Which file
RidgeRacer6-Linux-TestBuild-06.tar.gz: desktop Linux.
Unpack it, put your .iso into the folder, and start ridge-racer-6.sh. README.txt in the archive has the details.
What to expect
These builds have only been run on a machine without a graphics card, with software rendering; how well they run on real hardware is not known yet. On that machine, German and Japanese were checked on the loading screen, and content in the DLC folder was added at start (stand-in packages made for testing; real content has been added and played on Windows). Please report what you see: tools/collect-report.sh in the unpacked folder packs the logs and a description of your system into one file.
Needs glibc 2.35 and the C++ library of GCC 13.2 or newer (Ubuntu 24.04, Debian 13, Fedora 39, SteamOS 3.6, Arch) and a Vulkan driver.
