Limusic 1.3. Read and write YouTube comments, watch music in the redesigned theater mode, and see your listening stats. ListenBrainz joins Last.fm for scrobbling, tracks with a music video switch between the song and the video, and playlists show the columns you pick. Thanks to everyone who ran the eight release candidates and reported back.
New features
- Comments: read the playing track's YouTube comments (Top or Newest, with replies) from the player bar or the Comments tab. Signed in, you can like, post, reply, and edit or delete your own. Built by @TeseySTD.
- Theater mode, redesigned: the picture and the lyrics or queue take the stage, and the controls move to a dock along the bottom that fades away while music plays, leaving its room to the lyrics and queue. Music videos play in theater too, an "Up next" card shows near the end of a track, and a song with no lyrics puts the cover in the spotlight. Click the picture to play or pause, scroll on it to change the volume. (#468, #469)
- Listening stats: a new Stats page in the sidebar shows how long you've listened, your top artists, songs and albums, and what time of day you listen. (#396)
- ListenBrainz scrobbling: paste your user token in Settings ▸ Scrobbling to send what you play to ListenBrainz, alongside or instead of Last.fm. Thanks @ksharizard.
- Song/Video switch: a track that also exists as a music video switches between the two from the Song/Video pill, at the same position. With music videos on, albums play their videos, as on YouTube Music, and a new switch lets album songs start as the song instead. (#464)
- Track list columns: playlists and albums can show Album, Date added, Added by, Plays, Your plays and Duration. Pick them from the column header; the choice applies to every list.
- Playlist suggestions: playlists you own get a Suggestions shelf to add tracks from, with Refresh for more. On a long playlist they also fold into a pill in the page corner.
- Appears on: artist pages get a shelf of the releases the artist is featured on, most played first.
- Lyrics text size: make the lyrics bigger or smaller from the lyrics footer. The size carries over to theater mode and the mini player. Thanks @grishmadev. (#486)
- Matugen colors: a new Appearance switch takes every color in the app from the palette Matugen makes from your wallpaper, and follows it live when the wallpaper changes. Set up the Limusic template in Matugen first. Thanks @0x0Axlw. (#351)
- Play selection on repeat: in select mode, play only the selected tracks, looped.
- Blur playlist headers: an Appearance switch that blurs the cover behind a playlist's header, for covers that look pixelated stretched across the page. (#461)
- Song notifications can also show while Limusic is focused (Settings ▸ General ▸ System, off by default).
- The import review picker accepts a pasted YouTube link, for tracks that are only up as a video.
Improvements
- The new player layout is now the default. The old one is still there as Classic player layout in Settings ▸ Appearance.
- Lyrics load faster: the lyrics sources are asked a moment apart instead of one after another, so a song found further down the list no longer waits on every source above it. (#482)
- The "Saved in" card on track rows is redesigned, with the playlists' covers fanned out. A song saved in a single playlist links straight to it.
- Dimmed lyric lines are easier to read on light themes.
- The strict primary-artist option cuts at the word YouTube joins artists with in your language, not only at "&".
- Updated Spanish, Portuguese (Brazil), Turkish, Ukrainian, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Italian, Polish, Romanian, Russian and Chinese (Traditional) translations.
Bug fixes
- The song you were on when you quit shows its position from launch, and quitting again before pressing play no longer sends it back to the start. (#502)
- Windows 11: the window's corners no longer leave see-through slivers. On every platform the corners stay rounded while a dialog is open. (#504)
- Familiar Artists on Home counts only songs you actually listened to, the same way the Stats page does. Its order rebuilds from your listening history the first time you open this version. (#497)
- Pages that failed to load while you were offline, and the playlists in the sidebar, load on their own once the connection comes back. (#483)
- Google sign-in no longer sits on the loading bar after "Next" on some Wayland setups.
- The title bar stays usable while a dialog is open: the window can be dragged, minimized, maximized or closed without dismissing the dialog first. The maximize button shows a restore icon while the window is maximized.
- The update banner's Install and Restart button works while a dialog is open, and installing an update no longer fails its signature check when the installer was replaced after the banner appeared.
- A window saved on a monitor that's no longer connected comes back on screen. The mini player gets the same check.
- Edit Home lists a fixed set of sections, so changing the language no longer adds another copy of every shelf. The sidebar and Library switch to a new language straight away instead of after a restart. (#476)
- In Portuguese, a play count no longer shows up as the album on artist and album pages, in Discord, the system media controls or scrobbles, and music video tracks no longer show their view count where the album goes. Thanks @yiesko. (#451, #453)
- Channels that aren't artists show their name, picture and subscriber count, and subscribing saves them with their picture. Thanks @tayxd. (#479)
- Select all on a playlist counts its tracks, not its views. (#490)
- Track lengths sit in a fixed-width slot, so the icons beside them line up from row to row, and the seek bar no longer shifts as the position ticks. (#463)
- Closing theater mode no longer takes the window out of fullscreen if it was fullscreen before. (#485)
- The big player shows a video track's artwork sharp instead of stretched from a small thumbnail.
- Rows on a shared playlist that several members added show all their avatars, not none.
- Listen Together: when the host plays a local file, guests pause instead of carrying on with the last song, and the file's path is no longer sent to the room.
- Linux and Windows: the proxy setting also covers artwork and the sign-in page, which broke behind a proxy only Limusic knew about. (#465)
- Linux: the title bar shows only the window buttons your desktop's layout names, so Hyprland and other tiling compositors no longer get minimize and maximize buttons that do nothing. On GNOME that means close only, like other GNOME apps. (#481)
- Linux: hybrid laptops on X11 that draw on the integrated GPU no longer get black, flickering album covers. (#458)
- Linux: after double-clicking the title bar, the first click outside an open dialog is no longer ignored.
- Linux: on openSUSE Tumbleweed the AppImage trusts certificates again, so sign-in and artwork load.
- Windows: links open through the system instead of the command prompt, so links with quotes or
%in them open as they are.
