The solution removes the black bars without reducing the field of view in 32:9 and wider.
- Download the mod archive below.
- Unpack the files to \TheMuteHouse\Binaries\Win64 in the game folder.
To uninstall the mod, simply remove or move the files.
Addressing the 2 FPS issue
The game appears to have a buggy bloom implementation causing the FPS count to drop to almost zero when the render width exceeds ~4100. This affects resolutions like 5120x1440 and 5760x1080 but also the aspect ratios supported by the game, as long as the pixel width condition is met and not lowered by the resolution scale setting. Disabling bloom via the config addresses the issue:
1. Open %LOCALAPPDATA%\TheMuteHouse\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor\Engine.ini in any text editor.
2. At the bottom, add
[SystemSettings]
r.bloomquality=0
3. Save the file.
Tested on the latest Steam version mainly at 32:9 and briefly at 16:10. See above to make the game playable in 5120x1440 or 5760x1080.
