Orion Store 2.2.0 ๐Ÿš€

Orion lands on Android TV (beta), and you can get to know it better than ever. A new field guide walks through every feature in the app, classic rows now preview each app's description and wear an icon for their category, Compact mode packs more onto every screen, and eight new palettes join the lineup. Plus livelier backups, a lighter store, a cleaner pilot card flip and sharper corners and labels on every phone.

Updating from 2.1.x? Install 2.2.0 over your current Orion Store. Your profile, XP, badges and settings come along.

๐Ÿ“บ Android TV (Beta)

  • Orion on Your TV: Install Orion on an Android TV or Google TV and it shows up in the TV launcher with its own banner.
  • Made for the Remote: Browse every screen with the D-pad. The focused card lifts and wears a ring so you always know where you are, and the store has a refresh button since remotes can't pull to refresh.
  • TV Apps, Installed on the TV: On a TV, Orion opens on the TV catalog and downloads, installs, updates and opens TV apps right there, just like Android apps on a phone. Auto-update covers them too.
  • Safe Margins: Content stays clear of the screen edges on TVs that crop the picture.
  • Help Shape It: TV support is in beta. Tap the TV ยท Beta pill in the header to report anything that feels off.

๐Ÿงญ Know Orion

  • Every Feature in One Place: A new field guide covers the whole app in ten chapters: the store, app pages, downloads, installing, Guardian and Sentinel, look and feel, backup, XP and badges, games and the Dev tab.
  • Jump Straight There: Features with an arrow open their screen or setting in one tap.
  • Search the Guide: Type a word like backup or theme to find the feature you're after, or hop between chapters with the chips at the top.
  • Find It on the Dev Tab: Tap the book button at the top of the Dev tab, right next to Settings.

๐Ÿ“– About This App, Right in the List

  • Description Previews: Classic layout rows now show the first two lines of each app's "About this app" text under its name.
  • See More in Place: Tap See more... to read the full description right inside the row, and See less to fold it back. No need to open the app page.
  • Your Call: Prefer tidy rows? Turn off About this app in Settings โ†’ Interface โ†’ Store layout.

๐Ÿท๏ธ Category Icons

  • Every Category Gets a Glyph: Media, Social, Privacy, Development, Educational, Health, Emulators, Reading, Customization and the rest each have their own icon on classic rows, so you can scan a list at a glance.
  • Smart Matching: Combined categories like "Utility/Networking" or "Health & Fitness" pick the icon that fits them best.

๐ŸŽจ Eight New Palettes

  • More Colors: Grape, Mint, Ember, Amber, Cyber, Midnight, Lime and Cocoa join Orion, Ocean, Forest, Sunset, Rose and Mono, for fourteen palettes in all.
  • Tuned for Every Theme: Each one is built for Light, Dusk, Dark and OLED. Pick yours in Settings โ†’ Look & feel.

โ˜๏ธ Backups You Can See

  • Back Up Now, Animated: Tapping Back up now in cloud backup lifts the upload arrow inside a wavy ring, then lands it as a check on a turning cookie while the row glows green. The caption follows each step, and a failed backup says so right there.
  • Local Backups Too: The Back up button for your .osf file shows the same saving, saved and failed states.

๐Ÿ—œ๏ธ Compact Mode

  • Denser Everywhere: Turn on Compact mode in Settings โ†’ Look & feel and the whole store tightens up: smaller grid tiles that fit an extra column on modern home, slimmer classic rows, tighter swimlanes and a denser My Apps library.
  • Quick Toggle: Compact is also available as a quick toggle in the Settings hub.

๐Ÿ› Fixes

  • Clean Pilot Card Flip: Flipping the pilot card no longer leaves dark streaks along its edges, most visible in light mode. The developer coin on the About tab flips cleanly too.
  • Rounded Corners on Every Phone: Ignored updates in My Apps, the welcome screen points, Guardian's permission lists and the loading placeholders now round the right corners on every device.
  • Full Labels on the Profile: Stat labels like "Downloaded" now shrink to fit on narrow screens and large font sizes instead of getting cut off.

โšก Performance

  • Lighter Store Tabs: The classic list and favorites filter are worked out once instead of on every screen refresh, so scrolling stays smooth while downloads are running.
  • Faster Lookups: Ignored updates and your own bundles find their apps instantly instead of searching the whole catalog.
  • Less Disk Work: Orion skips saving data that hasn't changed, which cuts constant file writes during downloads.
