What's new

  • A paired device with Approve new devices or Host control approves a new one: Home shows who wants to pair, and you enter the PIN that device shows, with a controller too. Pair another device is in the PC's options; without the permission it says what is missing and where to turn it on.
  • Home groups by your Steam collections and Playnite categories: choose Collection under View, Group by. A game in several shows in each, the rest come last. Needs Rubylight 3.7.
  • Hide a game on this device from its long-press menu, on Android and now on Windows and Linux too. All games has a Hidden chip that brings it back.
  • Continue here moves a running game between devices in one press. Select the game another device is playing and Nightjar says where it is playing, with Continue here, Stream here too and Cancel. The other device's stream ends, the game keeps running and the picture comes to you.
  • A device whose stream moved stays put and shows "Now playing on" the new device, with Continue here to take it back. It never reconnects by itself. If the move fails, the prompt says the game came back and offers to resume it; a device that only streamed beside the game is told it did not move and offered Stream here too.
  • Nightjar for Windows updates with one click, in the same folder and with no administrator prompt. Settings and paired PCs stay.
  • The AppImage checks for updates and updates with one click too.
  • On the Xiaomi FX Mini LED Fire TV (AFTNE4E43F), Android's low-latency decoding now starts off once, and again after Reset all settings, because the picture could break into coloured blocks with it on. Decoding takes longer with it off. If you turn it back on, Nightjar keeps that choice and tries to limit the blocks: it asks the PC for a single reference frame, asks for a fresh keyframe when decode time climbs and when the climb ends, on a calm picture after 10 seconds and at least every 30 seconds, and spaces out frames that arrive right behind each other. Other devices don't change.
  • The performance overlay says only "hot" or "warm" unless Thermal protection is holding the bitrate or easing the load.
  • Problem reports name the device, put a UTC time on each line and list the last 8 streams, and slow decoder input makes one summary line per 10 seconds instead of filling the log. They also say why Nightjar changed the bitrate.
  • Nightjar can open straight into a game, for a mini PC under the TV, a TV launcher that starts an app at boot, or a handheld. "When Nightjar opens" in Settings shows your PCs (the default), continues your last game, or starts a game you chose from its menu ("Open this when Nightjar starts"). A 3-second countdown names the game and the PC, with Cancel focused; B, Back and Esc cancel it, and an offline PC is woken first.
  • The automatic start runs only on a cold start from the launcher or at sign-in. If the last one failed, or its stream died within 10 seconds, Nightjar skips the next one and says so once. It never replaces a running game: it stops with one line when a game already runs on the PC or plays on another device, or when there is no network. A second Nightjar window starts nothing and shows your PCs.
  • Windows and Linux: "Start Nightjar when I sign in", also in a Flatpak. A start at sign-in waits up to a minute for the network.
  • Android: long-pressing the app icon offers "Continue" with your last game first.
  • A pairing link opens Nightjar: scan the PC's QR code with any camera app, tap the link, or choose Open in Nightjar on the host's Devices page. Nightjar names the PC and its address and pairs when you choose Pair, on Android, Windows and Linux.
  • On Windows and Linux, a link opened while Nightjar is running goes to the open window.

Tested. Continue here and Stream here too on a Retroid Pocket 6 and on Nightjar for Linux on a mini PC, against Rubylight 3.7 on an RX 7900 XT PC: the app kept running through the move, and the stream reached the Retroid about 1.9 s after the press. The Fire TV changes ran on the Retroid with that device's settings forced on: 432 s of streams with no frames lost. Nothing has been measured on the Xiaomi FX Mini LED itself. The Android, Windows and Linux test suites passed.
