- HEVC no longer freezes seconds into a stream on Fire TV devices with Amlogic decoders such as the Fire TV Cube: they stop using reference frame invalidation for HEVC, and recover from lost packets with a keyframe instead. Other devices, Amlogic TV boxes included, keep it.
Tested. Android's tests go through the real Fire TV check: a Fire TV's Amlogic HEVC decoders no longer offer reference frame invalidation, so the stream asks for one reference frame, while MediaTek Fire TVs, other Amazon devices and Amlogic TV boxes behave as before. Not tested on a Fire TV yet: we have no such device. The reporter's Fire TV Cube 3 plays HEVC once the host stops marking long-term references, which is what this release asks for.
