Nightjar 4.0.1

Nightjar 4.0.1 fixes AV1 on MediaTek TVs, leaves the bitrate and resolution alone when the device gets warm unless you ask for it, and brings the Linux packages and the AppImage to older distributions such as Ubuntu 22.04 and Debian 12.

Android

  • AV1 on MediaTek TVs and sticks. With low-latency mode, AV1 uses the decoder settings of Nightjar 3.2 again: the shorter queues of 4.0 showed rainbow colours on one.
  • New Thermal protection setting, off by default. Device heat no longer halves the bitrate or lowers the resolution unless you turn it on.
  • The log says why Device controls bitrate changed the bitrate.

Linux

  • Runs on glibc 2.35 and newer. The .deb, .rpm, tar.gz and AppImage now need glibc 2.35 instead of 2.39: Ubuntu 22.04, Debian 12, Fedora 36 or later.

Tested. The full Android unit suite (3955 tests, 0 failures, including new tests for the MediaTek AV1 preset, the thermal gate and the bitrate-change reasons) and CI pass on this build. The Linux packages, built in a clean Ubuntu 22.04, opened the launcher window in clean containers: the AppImage on Ubuntu 22.04 without libva (where the PyroWave SDK also loads), the .deb on Ubuntu 22.04, Ubuntu 24.04 and Debian 12, and the .rpm on Fedora 36 and 42.

The APKs are signed by CI with the Nightjar release key; the desktop packages (Windows installer and zip; Linux .deb, .rpm, AppImage and tar.gz) are not signed. SHA-256 hashes of everything are in SHA256SUMS-4.0.1.txt.
