Nightjar

This release adds a general HEVC compatibility option for devices whose decoder firmware stutters or freezes with low-latency flags enabled.

Tip

If HEVC playback looks like a slideshow or freezes on your TV stick, try Settings → Advanced → Decoder → Disable HEVC low-latency flags, then reconnect the stream. The switch is off by default and works on any device; it is not tied to an Amlogic chip or model name.

  • One HEVC-only switch. Omits both Android and vendor low-latency flags while H.264, AV1, reference-frame invalidation and decoder performance hints keep their own settings.
  • Consistent startup and recovery. Disabled flags stay absent when the decoder restarts, and the output queue follows the flags actually requested. Rejected performance hints can fall back to an untuned decoder format.
  • Matching decoder benchmarks. The benchmark honors the HEVC switch and invalidates results measured with the previous setting.
  • Available in every supported app language. The new setting and its explanation are translated across all 15 supported locales.

The compatibility option is based on reported Xiaomi TV Stick and Homatics HEVC issues. Automated regression coverage checks the setting, decoder configuration, restarts and benchmark invalidation. Playback on those physical TV sticks still needs hardware validation; this release does not claim a measured latency improvement for every Amlogic device.

Install nightjar-0.7.9.apk over your current installation to keep paired PCs and settings. The -root.apk is the legacy rooted build for Android 5.0–7.1. Both APKs support arm64-v8a, armeabi-v7a, x86 and x86_64. The AAB and SHA-256 checksums are also included.
