Nightjar

This release makes the touch gestures reliable: two-finger right-click, direct-mouse holds and the desktop panel were the three most-reported input problems, and all three had concrete, reproducible causes. It also stops false automatic quality downgrades and makes the low-latency and HEVC settings behave as documented.

  • Two-finger right-click works in either lift order. The gesture is now tracked for both fingers until the whole tap ends, so lifting the first finger first still sends the right click. Motion batched with a lift no longer turns the tap into a move. This works in Trackpad and Local cursor modes, including with pinch zoom and pan enabled: a quick two-finger tap still right-clicks there, a small wobble does not start a pan, and a pan or pinch does not also click.
  • An input press sends only the right click. In Direct mouse mode, touching down no longer sends a left click before the right-click hold; moving beyond the small hold area drags with the left button. Tap limits now scale with screen density, so normal wobble on a high-density screen cannot cancel a tap, and single-finger clicks fire once per gesture.
  • The desktop panel keeps its own space. Empty panel area and cutout padding now belong to the panel, so touches there no longer click or drag the stream underneath. Trackpad movement is converted to host pixels and corrected for local-cursor zoom, holding a panel button pauses cursor momentum, and a direct press that lands in a split-screen window before its focus update can no longer be dropped.
  • No false automatic quality downgrades. The decode budget is now two frame intervals, accounting for decoder pipeline depth, and recovery requires 12 fresh samples spread over half a second. A quiet host that sends fewer frames than the negotiated rate no longer looks like a slow decoder, so the automatic quality logic stops reducing a healthy stream.
  • Low-latency settings show their real state. The master low-latency switch and profiles are read from the preferences they actually write, and the master switch shows Partly off while the HEVC compatibility override limits options.
  • The HEVC compatibility override now covers reference-frame invalidation. Settings → Advanced → Decoder → Disable HEVC low-latency flags also skips HEVC reference-frame invalidation, which can add latency on its own, and only removes optional flags. Fire TV 3 (AFTN) on Fire OS 6 keeps the required vdec-lowlatency flag in every attempt, including during fallback, because its Amlogic decoder otherwise produces no HEVC frames.

Automated coverage adds gesture, panel, adaptive-quality and decoder tests across both app flavors; the full unit suites pass and lint reports zero errors. Physical-device gesture testing is still pending.

Install nightjar-0.7.11.apk over your current installation to keep paired PCs and settings. The -root.apk is the legacy rooted build for Android 5.0–7.1. Both APKs support arm64-v8a, armeabi-v7a, x86 and x86_64. The AAB and SHA-256 checksums are also included.
