ChoralRoot 0.29.2

ChoralRoot 0.29.2 is 0.29.1 with loops that stay in time with an incoming MIDI clock. With Options > MIDI Clock
set to In, the loop used to run on the FM-1's own clock at the incoming tempo rounded to a whole BPM, so against a
master at a tempo between two whole BPMs it slowly drifted: about 2 seconds after 10 minutes at 120.4 BPM. It now
keeps time with the clock's pulses themselves. Nothing else changes: the sound, the features and the way your
settings, sounds, loops and favorites are stored are 0.29.1's.

MIDI Clock In (new in 0.29.2)

  • The loop follows the pulses. Each incoming clock pulse moves the loop on; between pulses the FM-1 fills in, so
notes still land between them. Measured over 10 minutes at 120.0, 120.4 and 120.7 BPM, the loop stays within 15 ms
    of the master.
  • When the clock stops (a cable, the master's Stop) the loop plays on at the tempo, and locks again at the next
pulse. Start and Continue lock it from the pulse that follows them.
  • Not changed: the arpeggiator and the other tempo-synced parts still follow the incoming tempo as a whole BPM.
  • MIDI Clock Out was already steady: measured on a unit, its clock and a loop of whole bars stayed together over
42 bars. A Free loop keeps the length you played, which is rarely a whole number of bars, so it moves against a
DAW's bars by design: record with Sync set to Bar to stay on the grid.

Installing

  • The web installer's default is 0.29.2: press Install. Options > Version reads ChoralRoot 0.29.2.
  • From 0.29.1, 0.29, 0.28 or 0.27 nothing needs doing: your sounds, loops, favorites and settings are all there.
  • An FM-1 with the second flash chip stuck on 0.27 to 0.29: 0.29.1.md says the way out.
  • A Single core package: the web installer's Advanced > Hardware fallback. Options > Version then reads
    ChoralRoot 0.29.2 1-core.
  • Signed builds: GitHub built these packages from the tag's source and signed them; 0.26.1.md
"Checking a package" says how to check one (choralroot-0.29.2.fwsc).

Going back to 0.29.1

The installer offers 0.29.1 under Other versions. Nothing changes but MIDI Clock In's timing: 0.29.1 stores
everything the same way, so your settings, sounds, loops and favorites stay, and Options > Version reads
ChoralRoot 0.29.1 again.

ChoralRoot 0.29.2 for the M-VAVE FM-1 (identity FM-1_920).

Install from the browser at https://quixotic7.github.io/ChoralRootFM1/ (Chrome or Edge, the FM-1 connected by USB), or with the command-line installer: python3 tools/fm1_install.py choralroot-0.29.2.fwsc.

choralroot-0.29.2-1core.fwsc is the same firmware on one processor core, for an FM-1 that crashes or freezes with the standard package (the installer offers it under Advanced > Hardware fallback). Settings, sounds and loops stay when you switch between the two.

SHA256SUMS lists both packages and their apps. GitHub built and signed each from this tag's source (The Firmware Hub's shared workflow); check one with gh attestation verify choralroot-0.29.2.fwsc --repo Quixotic7/ChoralRootFM1 --signer-workflow zvenson/fm1-build/.github/workflows/build.yml. The package holds three JieLi AC79 SDK files (Apache-2.0); LICENSE, LICENSING.md and LICENSES.zip carry every licence. Installing firmware is at your own risk.
