New features
Customize your Spartan or Elite in the game's own scene
Customize now shows your character drawn by the game itself. It holds the stance you pick (weapons, dual wielding, crouch, the Elite taunt) with the game's own idle animations, and the camera follows the pose.
- Visor and armor light colors now use the game's own skins, so they stay on bodies after death. The Flight, Assault, Commando and Ascetic Elite helmets take a visor color, and armor lights show their own color without the primary color mixed in.
- Emblem colors can be any color, and other players see them.
- The Spartan and the Elite each keep their own armor, colors, stance and voice.
- Fixed the Elite's shoulders, previews of other players staying on the loading circle during a game, the visor panel saying Elite helmets have no visor, and campaign-only characters (Chief, Arbiter, co-op Elites) picking up custom visor and light colors.
Changes
- Customize's character view fades into the menu. The scene behind your character in Customize now fades softly into the darker menu around it instead of ending at a hard square edge, and it eases in when the character appears.
- The sprint meter stays on screen. In games with sprint, the bar above the radar now shows for the whole game instead of only while you sprint, so you can tell at a glance that sprint is on. It hides while you drive or ride a vehicle and while you edit as the Forge monitor.
- Everyone in a game needs 0.9.7. Servers admit only players on exactly their own version, so players and servers on 0.9.7 can't play with those on 0.9.6 or older. The server browser's Version column shows a server on another version in red, and a refused join says which side needs to update. Update dedicated servers and players together.
Bug fixes
- Big servers no longer crash at around 64 players. Fixed servers with around 64 or more players, with players coming and going, crashing during a game, which sent everyone back to the main menu with "The host left the game".
- Correct visor colors and Elite preview stances. The standard Spartan visor now follows your chosen color in the customization menu. Elite Hammer and Crouch stances now display their poses in the drawn preview instead of leaving the character in its rest pose.
- MCC map variants on Workshop maps without a map ID show up. Map variants saved in MCC on a Workshop map whose author never gave it a map ID, such as Forge World, were never listed under that map in Host Game, playlists or a server's map list, so they could not be played. They now list under the map they were made on, whether they sit in
Mapsor in MCC's own saved files. - Players no longer drop with "The host left the game" when someone joins. Fixed everyone on a busy server being sent back to the main menu with "The host left the game" right after a player joined, while the server itself kept running. A player whose copy of the server's player list falls out of step now stays in the game and gets the whole list again from the server. Servers also correct one way the list could fall out of step, and their logs name anything else that would.
- Mod maps with the same name can be told apart. Two mods' maps with the same name, such as the Forge World in Ultimate Forge 2.0 and the standalone Forge World, both read "Forge World · Workshop" in the map list, and the lobby could show the other one's picture. Each now names its mod: "Forge World (Ultimate Forge 2.0) · Workshop" and "Forge World - Halo 3 · Workshop".
- Firing always ends a sprint. Some shots could still be fired mid-sprint, such as the left-hand weapon while dual wielding, or quick taps while holding Sprint. Now any shot ends the sprint, and the weapon fires as soon as it is raised again, a moment later. A shot pressed while the weapon comes up still fires. To sprint again after firing, press Sprint again.
